Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News: Wonder Women Unleash Their Lassos of Truth Edition!

Women dominated the resistance news cycle this week – Wonder Women Unite! But first, some crazy-good news…

Former FBI director Robert Mueller was appointed as special counsel to investigate the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia. To everyone who protested or called their member of Congress to demand an investigation: You helped make this happen! Indivisible Ventura hammered this issue from every angle we could think of  – 22 calls to action – and your calls made a difference!

Single payer health care is closer to becoming law in New York and California than ever before but if we want it, everyone is going to have to ask for it. Tell Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson that you care about SB562:  SAC (916) 651-4019, SB  (805) 965-0862, (805) 988-1940 See the full call to action here.

These guys are ROCKSTARS! The ACLU took legal action to force Trump to produce evidence of voter fraud claims. How many executive orders have lawsuits against them? We’ve kinda lost count.

Public support for gay marriage has reached a new high.

Wonder Women Unleash Their Lassos of Truth!

Last Sunday was Mother’s Day.  42 years before it became an official holiday filled with roses, chocolate and Kodak moments, it was something quite differentand we can be proud to say that women have risen again to resist.

“I have never canvassed before, but I will f—ing crawl door to door to make sure you lose.” A mild-mannered 60-year-old in Florida, to her Republican representative

Yep, the GOP has activated us, that’s for sure.

People across the country are refusing to stay silent. You can use Indivisible’s special guide to demand your member of Congress takes action, and then on June 3, you can join the March for Truth.

Click on every one of these amazing links! Citizens are stepping up and doing their jobs! Speaking out at town halls. Special shoutout to the New Jerseyans who confronted Rep. Tom MacArthur, the Congressman behind the key amendment that allowed Trumpcare to pass, for more than four hours and showed us all how it’s done.  Crowds also confronted Paul Ryan!

Indivisible Ventura showed up to support our sister districts for die-ins to express our anger about Congressmen’s votes to repeal ObamaCare. Read news items here, here, here, and here.

Betsy DeVos got the respect she deserves…

LOVE THIS. Democrats are showing up at Republican Town Halls! Democratic legislators taking town halls for cowardly GOP members. “Hey, listen, I have a question for you,” he said. “I’m Representative Sean Patrick Maloney. Where the heck is your congressman?”

Despite Trump’s attempt to end the investigation into his ties with Russia, the Senate Intelligence Committee invited Comey to testify next week and subpoenaed Michael Flynn. (Federal prosecutors also issued subpoenas to Flynn’s associates.) Meanwhile, Democrats slowed Senate activity to demand the appointment of a special prosecutor, and the media called out Trump’s “grotesque abuse of power.” A handful of Republicans also expressed concern. KEEP UP THE PRESSURE – MAKE MORE PHONE CALLS TO APPOINT A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR HERE.

Trump’s tax’s haven’t been forgotten… keep hammering away. We DEMAND Continue reading “Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News! This is What Democracy Looks Like!”

Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News. Trump Failure Edition

Oh, let us count the ways Mr. Trump has failed this week. There’s just sooooo much of it!

Trump fails at his attempt to penalize sanctuary cities. We’ve collectively made a lot of phone calls about this one! Keep up the pressure by calling about the “California Sanctuary State” bill.

It took Trump THREE tries to get his horrible healthcare bill through the House. The good news? The Senate is going to hate it and send it back to the House after many amendments.

What can YOU do to stop this? We are participating in three die-ins this week in neighboring districts to show Congressmen who voted for TrumpCare that we will not tolerate this twice. Click here for more info (carpooling available). Click here to see why these die-ins work.

Yet ANOTHER fail: No funding for Trump’s stupid wall in the federal spending bill. Yup, we were all over this one too. GREAT job everyone.

Oh, and there’s MORE: No funding cuts for Planned Parenthood, the NIH, PBS, NPR, and the EPA—will continue to receive funding. Many actions were taken for these issues, you can continue to support EPA protection here.

Although GOPs planned to exempt themselves from TrumpCare, they turned tail Continue reading “Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News. Trump Failure Edition”

Just How Badly Did We get Reamed Thursday with the Obamacare Repeal?

Get a big cup of coffee, make yourself comfortable and read this through…

(This is from www.govtrack.us. unless noted otherwise. IV = Indivisible Ventura, WTF = WTFJHT)

The American Health Care Act of 2017 (AHCA), H.R. 1628, is the House Republicans’ leading proposal to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare, but we’ll abbreviate it ACA) and “defund” Planned Parenthood.

A new deal among the Republican factions was reached. The changes to the AHCA, as reported by the Rules committee, are:

  • States may opt-out of providing the ACA’s essential health benefits. (This requirement was already dropped in the bill for Medicaid but not for the individual market.)
  • States may opt-out of requiring premiums to be the same for all people of the same age, so while individuals with pre-existing conditions must be offered health insurance there is no limit on the cost of that insurance. A new $8 billion fund would help lower premiums for these individuals.
  • States may opt-out of limiting premium differences based on age.
  • There would be a new $15 billion fund for risk sharing to help states lower premiums. (Many sources agree this is not nearly enough – IV)

After a fast-paced few weeks, the vote scheduled for March 24, 2017 was cancelled after the House Freedom Caucus, a band of some of the most conservative members of the House, pledged in block to oppose the AHCA because it did not go far enough to repeal the ACA.

What would stay the same: Continue reading “Just How Badly Did We get Reamed Thursday with the Obamacare Repeal? “

Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News!

We made big leaps this week with the stupid border wall, climate change, immigration, voting, and women’s rights. Also, believe it or not, Trump’s greatest accomplishment is actually a good thing! Gotta love those unintended consequences!

Don’t Frack with our future! The Ventura Climate March became a GIANT art instillation – we hiked up our vertical Botanical Gardens in coordinated bright colors to become a human thermometer. With drones flying overhead and photographers hiking all over the opposite hillside, some stunning pics should come out of the celebration. Watch the Facebook page for them!

Buh-bye Border Wall! The government spending bill will not include funds for the wallLawmakers in border states are united against this stupid wall, why go on? Our action calls are working!

California won’t back down: Trump’s order to defund sanctuary cities was blocked by a U.S. District Court Judge in San Francisco. Continue to fight for California’s Sanctuary Bill by making your phone calls – action item here.

Voters won’t back down either! A new poll showed 63% of Democrats nationwide feel “very excited” about voting in 2018, and they’ll have plenty of choices in the primary: There’s a 58% increase in Democratic candidates.

In fact, Trump’s greatest achievement so far? He has sparked one of the greatest surges of American citizen action in half a century!

April is Sexual Violence Awareness Month and Congress wants to defund programs that protect women! (1 of 2)

Say NO to defunding any Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) programs. VAWA has made significant progress helping victims of domestic & date violence, sexual assault, elder abuse and stalking achieve justice and safety, with federally federally funded direct services such as shelter, rape crisis services, legal assistance, and counseling.

[And when you’re done calling, do a happy dance to celebrate the end of Bill O’Reilly’s run at Fox News.]

OREILLLY-fired

Script: I’m calling to ask (_____) to stand against any attempt to defund the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). It was passed with bipartisan support and has been incredibly effective in saving lives and money.

Call all three Members of Congress

Rep. Julia Brownley: DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779

“Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, you are unlikely to step up and take responsibility for making it so.” – Noam Chomsky

Congress was on recess these past weeks, but the resistance didn’t let up…

Bill O’Reilly is out at Fox News! In large part due to the immense pressure from the American people toward the advertisers on his show.

Seven executions in Arkansas were blocked by a federal judge – the State was trying to outrun expiration dates on the lethal drugs used in these executions.

The last abortion clinic in Kentucky remains open due to an ACLU lawsuit.

Maryland has become the first state in the country to agree to reimburse Planned Parenthood if Congress cuts its funding.

The anti-gerrymandering fight makes a big Continue reading “Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News!”

Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News!

This happened yesterday, all over America! We marched to tell Donald that, contrary to his belief, we REALLY do want to see his taxes!

Mr. Trump seems to be a bit worried…

Yup. It looks like someone was paying attention.

Also, how do we get our greedy mitts on one of those fabulous Trump Chickens? We need one in the worst way.

Good News!

The Wall is looking increasingly less likely.

Some GOP leaders are starting to publicly support elements of the ACA.

8,000 millennial Democrats plan to run for office. Yay!

THIS should be good… Continue reading “Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News!”

Buh-bye Bannon!

Steve Bannon has been removed from the National Security Council fulfilling our collective dreams when we made phone calls to our congresswoman!

…and Nunes

Devin Nunes will step aside from leading the investigation into Trump’s ties with Russia. (He’s now officially under an ethics investigation himself.) Was there a call to action on our part? Why, yes, there was! Great job everyone!

Next up – Bill O’Reilly! More than 40 companies pulled their ads from The O’Reilly Factor, following sexual harassment accusations. Sleeping Giants, who have worked diligently to have advertisers remove their presence on Breitbart, is now working on getting advertisers to stop advertising on Fox News during Bill O’Reilly’s show.  Keep up the pressure! Here is their current list that is being updated

And in case you missed it:

A Kentucky judge ruled that a lawsuit accusing Trump of inciting violence can proceed, dismissing his free speech defense. According to the judge, Trump’s remarks against protesters at a campaign rally “at least ‘implicitly encouraged the use of violence or lawless action.’”

California Leading the Charge

On Monday evening, Senate Bill 54, the “sanctuary state” bill, or CA Values Act, was passed. The bill will now go to the State Assembly, and if approved, to Governor Brown. Take some time to “happy dance,”because our phone calls began a process that will make a HUGE difference in so many lives!

More representatives are announcing support for single payer health care! California has been flirting Continue reading “Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News!”
