Wed 2/6: Join in today in Thousand Oaks. Tell Julia we want a #GreenNewDeal!

Action 1 – National Day of Action for Real Climate Leadership

Join 350 Conejo / San Fernando Valley and our partners as we call on our Representative, Julia Brownley(CA-26) to endorse a Green New Deal and commit to a just and equitable transition to a world free from fossil fuels, support green jobs, and reject fossil fuel money.

Congresswoman Brownley has yet to take a position on the Green New Deal. We’ll deliver thousands of petition signatures from constituents and call on her to step up and be the real climate leader we need.

Today we’re gathering at Representative Brownley’s Thousand Oaks office. We’ll speak about why the Green New Deal matters to us and how she can help advance the goals of climate action, a federal jobs guarantee, reparations for the climate crisis and racial justice.

As presidential hopefuls begin to announce their candidacies and our new Congress works to define their priorities, this is a key moment to keep up the pressure for real climate leadership and a Green New Deal. We’ve already seen the power of activists mobilizing in the halls of Congress to change the future of climate politics and make the Green New Deal a possibility. Let’s keep it up!

Save Net Neutrality

We’ll be contacting BOTH the FCC and our Congressperson on this important action!

FCC Sample Script: I’m calling FCC Chairman Ajit Pai to insist the FCC uphold all existing Title II net neutrality rules. We pay for Internet service, and we have a right to protection from data discrimination, privacy invasion, and access restrictions.

CALL FCC Chairman Ajit Pai: (1-202-418-1000)

Congress Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] to ask Rep. [___] to do anything in his/her power to stop the  FCC from killing net neutrality and the strong Title II oversight of Internet Service Providers.

More script if your want it: Preserving an open internet is crucial for fair and equal access to the resources and information available on it.

No on H.R. 3990 – A Death Blow to our National Parks and Monuments

Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to ask Rep. [___] to vote NO on H.R. 3990 – “National Monument Creation and Protection Act”.

More script if you want it: This deceptively-named bill will effectively destroy our national monument system. It redefines what can be protected, limits the size of monuments, allows the President to rescind a National Monumentand prohibits the creation of marine monuments.

CALL Rep. Julia Brownley(CA-26): DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779

This Week in Sanity-saving Good News – “The Kids are Alright” Edition…

Lego welcomes the women of NASA.

The kids are alright.

First, let’s talk about this 11 year-old girl who’s been worried about the Flint water situation since she’s been 9. Along with playing piano, swimming, fencing and taking dance lessons, she has invented the cheapest, most effective test for lead in water and won “America’s Top Young Scientist”. God, what was I doing when I was 11?

Then there’s Ames Mayfield, who in 14 years or so, will be running for office. Put in on your calendars now.

Stop government intrusion into decisions families make with their doctors.

No on H.R. 36: Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act!

Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to urge Rep. [___]  to vote NO on H.R. 36, which would make it a crime to perform or attempt to perform an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

More script if you want it: Only 1.3% of US abortions occur after the 20th week and usually because of severe fetal anomalies or maternal health risks. This bill risks the lives of women and interferes with their Constitutionally guaranteed reproductive rights.

Support “Off Fossil Fuels for a Better Future” Act – Because…breathing.

Script: I‘m calling to urge Rep. {Brownley,Carbajal] to co-sponsor the OFF Act (HR 3671) which will transition the US to 100% clean, renewable energy by 2037, with a benchmark of 80% reduction by 2027.

Protect Worker’s Voting Rights: Advocate for Weekend Voting. Vote YES on H.R. 1094

Minimal Script: I’m calling Rep. [Brownley/Carbajal] to vote YES on H.R. 1094, the Weekend Voting Act.

More script if you want it: Weekend voting increases participation, allows working people to access the polls more easily, and reflects 21st century needs.

Rep. Julia Brownley: (CA-26): DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779

Protect Unions: Preserve Collective Bargaining Rights

Minimal Script: I am calling Rep. [Brownley/Carbajal] to vote NO on H.R. 2723 and H.R. 2776.

More script if you want it: These deceptively named anti-union measures threaten collective bargaining rights. The “Employee Rights Act” (H.R. 2723) permits employers to count non-voters as “NO” votes in elections on union formation. The Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act (H.R. 2776) permits delays to elections that allow employers time to fill the voter rolls with anti-unionists.

Call Rep. Julia Brownley: (CA-26): DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779
