Let’s join other cities in committing to 100% renewable energy by 2030!

The Feds have dropped the ball on fighting climate change. Our President just took us out of the Paris Climate Accord and our government is now festering with science-deniers.

It’s time for us to step up to fill the gap with local action!

The City of Ventura created a great Environmental report in 2012: http://www.ca-ilg.org/sites/main/files/file-attachments/draft-environmental-strategy-v_1_9-mw1.pdf.

But let’s ask them to go further than 20% renewable energy by 2020!

Let’s join Santa Barbara and 29 other cities who are committing to 100% renewable energy by 2030.  Here’s the docs from the City of Santa Barbara we can use as a guide. https://tinyurl.com/ybugka62, https://tinyurl.com/yckav3mt, & https://tinyurl.com/y7g2hjjf.

Support the Environment in the Budget!

Fight Trump’s multi-pronged attack on the environment!

Trump has pulled us out of the Paris Climate Accord, and his budget slashes EPA funding by 31%.  Ask Congress to support common-sense climate action, by completely funding the EPA, and providing foreign assistance for climate adaptation, funding for alternative energy research, and job retraining for workers impacted by the transition to clean energy.

Script:  I’m calling to ask (___) to counter Trump’s move on the Paris Climate Accord by fighting for common-sense climate action in the budget, including fully funding the EPA and transitioning us to a clean energy future.

It’s decision time for hundreds of pieces of legislation in California this week. Make some calls!

The Senate’s fiscal committee will decide the fate of bills on Thursday, June 1st; the Assembly will do so on Friday, June 2nd.  The ones that pass will then move to the opposite house.

With our strong Democratic majority, California has the ability to counter some of the negative policies coming out of Washington D.C. Our friends at Indivisible San Francisco short-listed some of the most important bills. If you have time this week, please pick the ones that speak the most to you, and make some phone calls.

State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and Assemblywoman Monique Limon don’t receive many calls from their constituents, so if we all make our voices heard this week, we can make a real difference.

CALL TO STATE ACTION

TUESDAY 5/30 – FRIDAY 6/2
Pick your favorite bills from the list ISF has put together and let our state MoCs know how you feel.

Assembly: Call State Assembly Member Monique Limón: Sacramento: (916) 319-2037, Santa Barbara: (805) 564-1649, Ventura: (805) 641-3700 If outside of these areas, find your Representatives here.

Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News: Wonder Women Unleash Their Lassos of Truth Edition!

Women dominated the resistance news cycle this week – Wonder Women Unite! But first, some crazy-good news…

Former FBI director Robert Mueller was appointed as special counsel to investigate the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia. Indivisible Ventura hammered this issue from every angle we could think of  – 22 calls to action – and your calls made a difference!

Single payer health care is closer to becoming law in New York and California than ever before but if we want it, everyone is going to have to ask for it. Tell Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson that you care about SB562:  SAC (916) 651-4019, SB  (805) 965-0862, (805) 988-1940 See the full call to action here.

These guys are ROCKSTARS! The ACLU took legal action to force Trump to produce evidence of voter fraud claims. How many executive orders have lawsuits against them? We’ve kinda lost count.

Public support for gay marriage has reached a new high.

Wonder Women Unleash Their Lassos of Truth!

Last Sunday was Mother’s Day.  42 years before it became an official holiday filled with roses, chocolate and Kodak moments, it was something quite differentand we can be proud to say that women have risen again to resist.

Call Pruitt and demand that he stop removing vital scientific information from the EPA website and stop replacing EPA scientists on the Board of Scientific Counselors with industry representatives. Demand that the EPA develop evidence-based policies that protect the environment and serve the public good, including the regulation of fossil fuels.

Expose Exxon’s Lies: Stop Misleading Us About the Impact of Fossil Fuels on Climate Change!

Ask Attorney General Becerra to join Massachusetts and New York in investigating Exxon Mobil for deliberately misleading consumers on the true impact of fossil fuels on climate change. Exxon has spent decades profiting off of carbon emissions while supporting climate change deniers and promoting ruinous public policies. Let’s help put an end to their lies.

Script: Hello, my name is ***  I’m calling to urge Attorney General Becerra to join Massachusetts and New York in opening an investigation into Exxon Mobil’s efforts to mislead consumers with respect to the impact of fossil fuels on climate change.

A Bit of Much Needed Fun – After a Tumultuous Week! Sally Yates, John Oliver, Seth Myers… Thank you!

Thanks to Raul Labrador and Mark Twain for the above great laugh, a cynical laugh, but still a laugh.

Thanks to Sally Yates for beating Ted Cruz at his own game this piece of political theater!

Thanks to John Oliver for this lovely link and hysterical (yet important) video on Net Neutrality (it’s a bit bawdy, you are forewarned!):

Thanks to Seth Meyers for the great image of Trump as the “ghost” villian in Scooby-doo:

Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News!

We made big leaps this week with the stupid border wall, climate change, immigration, voting, and women’s rights. Also, believe it or not, Trump’s greatest accomplishment is actually a good thing! Gotta love those unintended consequences!

Don’t Frack with our future! The Ventura Climate March became a GIANT art instillation – we hiked up our vertical Botanical Gardens in coordinated bright colors to become a human thermometer. With drones flying overhead and photographers hiking all over the opposite hillside, some stunning pics should come out of the celebration. Watch the Facebook page for them!

Buh-bye Border Wall! The government spending bill will not include funds for the wallLawmakers in border states are united against this stupid wall, why go on? Our action calls are working!

California won’t back down: Trump’s order to defund sanctuary cities was blocked by a U.S. District Court Judge in San Francisco. Continue to fight for California’s Sanctuary Bill by making your phone calls – action item here.

Voters won’t back down either! A new poll showed 63% of Democrats nationwide feel “very excited” about voting in 2018, and they’ll have plenty of choices in the primary: There’s a 58% increase in Democratic candidates.

In fact, Trump’s greatest achievement so far? He has sparked one of the greatest surges of American citizen action in half a century!
