Third Thursdays – Pizza, Camaraderie, & Postcards on May 16th! That’s TODAY!

Let’s meet at Santino’s for pizza, camaraderie, and social justice – every Third Thursday.

Where: Santino’s Pizza. It’s at 4231 Telegraph Rd., Ventura, 93003
When: May 16th, 11:30am – 1:30pm.
RSVP: None. Just come – we provide the pizza and postcards and stamps! If you prefer, you may bring your own stationary.
Questions? Email indivisibleventura@gmail.org

On May 16, we’ll focus on:

“Get Well” cards to former president Jimmy Carter.

“Thank you” cards to Rep. Barbara Lee. Last week, the Trump-Pence administration finalized a refusal of care rule that would allow virtually any health care entity, provider or worker to use their personal beliefs to dictate patient care. Congresswoman Lee successfully offered an amendment to attack this dangerous and discriminatory rule, now the FY20 LHHS bill that will prohibit funding for the implementation of the rule.

Senator Feinstein, Please Support S.546 – the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund
“Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act.” It didn’t pass last year and now the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) is running out of money before its 2020 expiration date, cutting payments between 50-70% at the same time cancer rates among first responders are going up. Brownley, Carbajal, and Harris are all on board; Feinstein is the odd man out!  More info here.

Tues 4/30: Spread a little love. It’s good for the recipient. It’s good for you.

Cards filled out by Indivisible Ventura members and friends...

UPDATE! Ocasio-Cortez and Omar cards added!

Action – Send out some love…

This project was started to give our support to two new congresswomen, Reps. Ocasio-Cortez and Omar, who’d been getting an inordinate amount of hate mail and serious death threats. Whether or not we agree with every policy or word they’ve ever spoken, we stand indivisible in their defense and wanted them to know that we respect and support them.

In the course of making the cards, we met Onjena Yo, an amazing artist from Brooklyn who makes multinational patriotic graphic designs melding our flag with those of the original countries of immigrant families. She volunteered her designs for Puerto Rico (Ocasio-Cortez) and Somalia (Omar) and suddenly, our project became bi-coastal.

You never know what can happen, so write.

Print out our “heart” postcards on cardstock or use your own. Write “Dear_______” and let your words fill in behind it. It doesn’t have to be eloquent or poetic, grammatically correct or even spelled perfectly. Crossouts and white-out – completely OK. Pictures, stickers, crayon. All good.

CD25 includes parts of Ventura County, Santa Clarita, Lancaster, and Palmdale. We Venturans can’t vote in CD25, but we can help our neighbors turn their district blue – and help ourselves by helping to flip one of the 24 districts needed to turn the entire House blue! We are not endorsing a candidate, just advocating power to the polls.

Our appeal will be directly to the Democratic voters in CA25 – NOT mass political mailings, because all of our cards will be handwritten. Each will be a message from one voter to another. We are simply asking Americans to do that most American thing — VOTE!

Postcard Party for California District 1 on April 4th!

We will be joining a statewide effort to get out the vote in California District 1!

When: Wednesday, April 4th at 11:00AM – 2:00 PM
Where: Santino’s Pizza Parlor – 4321 Telegraph Rd, Ventura
Fun! Pizza will be provided! (A little cheese grease goes a long way toward making our postcards have that special “homey” touch!)

CD1 is LaMalfa’s district which is spread out, red, and rural. The CD1 Democratic Alliance have asked us to write postcards to their rural democratic voters, encouraging them to turn out to vote. We are not endorsing a candidate, just advocating power to the polls.

Our appeal will be directly to the voters in CA-1 – NOT mass political mailings, because all of our cards will be handwritten. Each will be a message from one voter to another. We are simply asking Americans to do that most American thing — VOTE!

Here are some tidbits from LaMalfa’s reelection site to inspire us:

“I am proud to have earned an A rating and the endorsements of the NRA and Gun Owners of America.”

“The current (immigration) policy Continue reading “Postcard Party for California District 1 on April 4th!”

Here’s the latest in the fight for Alabama. There’s lots we can do to help.

Helping from far away or in Alabama…

#1. Help Color of Change get people registered.

Today, Monday, Nov. 27th, until 11:59 p.m., is the deadline for Voter Registration. News outlets are calling this race a statistical tie between Doug Jones, who prosecuted KKK members for killing four little girls in a church bombing,  and Roy Moore, a racist, homophobe and accused predatory pedophile. This is why we need to mobilize right now. Tomorrow will be too late. Help Color of Change pay for digital ads encouraging people to register.

They’ve been testing ads for the past few days, and they estimate that they can get 5 new Alabama voters to an online registration page for about $10.

If enough of us chip in, we can register thousands of voters in the next 24 hours and shift the tides of this race.

Help reach 5 new Alabama voters before the deadline ($10)

Help reach 20 new Alabama voters before the deadline ($40)

Help reach 50 new Alabama voters before the deadline ($100)

…or donate another amount.

Join us for a Alabama Senate Race Postcard Party!

We will be joining a national effort to help elect Doug Jones of Alabama to the US Senate. The election is on Dec 12, so we need to get to cracking and take one more step to getting a majority back in the Senate!

Our appeal will be directly to the voters in Alabama – NOT mass political mailings, because all of our cards will be handwritten. Each will be a message from one voter to another. We are simply asking Alabamans to do that most American thing — VOTE!

Join a party in Ventura at one of the times below so we can have fun while writing and personalizing the cards.

Please pick a day from the list below, and let us know when you would like to join.

As Senator Murkowski said, “She did not come to Washington to hurt people.” Let’s thank her.

Thanks to three Republican women senators, Obamacare might just survive the GOP’s campaign to repeal it. The fight is not over, so keep calling our own senators with words of encouragement in this fight, but let’s thank these women for their courage to stand up against their own party and for wanting to see something better for their constituents and the rest of us.
