Time to pay attention to state bills!

Legislation is rushing through both CA chambers’ for their floor votes, and as usual, some great bills are being crushed and some turds are floating to the top. Time to amplify the voices of our allies! We’ve made the calls as short as possible and yes, you can combine them.

  • Action #1: BRADY – Call for better gun laws!
  • Action #2: SIERRA CLUB – Two “YES” and one “NO!”
  • Action #3: PRO-Choice California – Push all thirteen bills through.
  • Action #4: “Best intentions” meets the internet to make a horrible baby!

Action #1: BRADY – Call for better gun laws!

(From Ruth Borenstein, Brady California Legislative and Policy Chair) “These four bills are evidence-based solutions that will protect public safety and save lives… Ghost guns pose one of the greatest threats to our communities: They are unserialized, fully-functioning firearms that require NO background check. Because they’re so easy to obtain, they’ve proliferated across California and have been used in deadly acts of violence, including the tragic Saugus High School shooting and in everyday acts of gun violence.

Minimal script for assemblymember: Minimal script for assemblymember: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Assemblymember [____] to vote “YES” on the following 3 bills that will protect public safety and save lives: [You don’t have to say the parts in (…)]

Sat/Sun – 3/14-15: Activism in a time of solitude.

Our country may be on lockdown, but the resistance is flexible…

We at Indivisible Ventura assessed our activity calendar to see what we could still accomplish during this quarantine period. The answer? A lot, just not the activities that require us to be in the same place. Keep calling your legislators, keep writing comments to the regulators, and participate in the peaceful democratic actions outlined below that connect us to writers, texters, callers and voters across America.

  • We updated our “events” calendar here
  •  All activities located on college campuses have been cancelled until the quarantine is lifted. This includes all our voter registration and census education dates.
  • Both citizenship fairs this month have been cancelled. If you are a person or know a person needing immigration services, including citizenship forms, DACA and green card renewals, please contact our trusted partners for assistance:

POSTCARD ACTIVITIES:

Postcard Action #1 – UPDATE: The April 16th’s Postcard Party is CANCELLED – but that doesn’t mean 500 folks in Arizona won’t be getting hand-written postcards!

image9.png

We will be putting together kits of cards, scripts and addresses for Arizona – We’ll be sending 500 postcards to voters along with a short script from Center For Common Ground’s Reclaim our Vote Campaign, who is working with the NAACP, Black Voters Matter, Mi Familia Vota, VoteRiders and DemLabs. These voters may have been dropped from voting rolls. This reminder postcard could save voters being turned away, a horrible experience, after waiting hours in line. The dignity of very single vote matters.

For those who have already attended our postcard parties, here’s what we need from you to get your kit:

  • Email us at indivisibleventura@gmail.com
  • Subject line: Mail me some postcards! (This is important – so we can quickly see your email)
  • Give us the following information: Your name, address and how many postcards, in batches of (10) ten, you want. If you also need stamps, let us know.

Postcard Action #2 – Write postcards for Christy Smith! Keep CA-25 blue!

Tomorrow’s Menu:

Postcards: We’re going to be writing 300 postcards to voters in Texas in connection with the NAACP and the Center for Common Ground‘s – Reclaim our Vote campaign!

Why do we need a RECLAIM OUR VOTE campaign? Community of color voters are being placed on “Inactive” or “Unregistered” lists at a 16% higher rate than whites. The ability to vote of people in minority communities was already being systematically undermined over the last decade, by the imposition of strict new voter ID laws, by the reduction in polling places and early voting, and through many other tactics. Today’s Menu:

Postcards: We’re going to be writing 300 postcards to voters in Dallas in connection with the NAACP and the Center for Common Ground‘s – Reclaim our Vote campaign!

Cards of support: We’ll also send cards of support to Rep. Adam Schiff and staff. President Trump has focused his vitriol, and the rage of his followers against this incredibly brave legislator overseeing the inquiry that threatens his corrupt presidency.

Action #2  – Mark your calendars! Jim Hines of the Sierra Club needs our help! (Please share!)

Fri. – 4/27 – Yes, your phone calls do matter. Thank you.

Greetings Activists:

YOU are amazing, YOU are inspiring, thanks to all of you for your dedicated efforts so far this year which has allowed us to win some major victories in protecting our environment.

YOU made the difference in getting the just-passed federal spending bill to include  funding for many environmental and national public lands programs even though the Administration asked for them not to be funded.

Your individual voice added with those of others across the nation has forced the Dept of the Interior to put on hold a planned massive increase in entrance fees to YOUR national parks.

Your efforts have stopped congressional legislation which would eliminate national parks, national monuments and other national public lands units, YOUR public lands.

YOU in your persistent letter writing, phone calls, and faxes plus face to face meetings with elected and appointed officials, speaking at public hearings and attending rallies made the difference.

YOU are the voice for the land which calls out for help, YOU are the voice for wildlife which is voiceless, YOU matter, YOUR voice made the difference and its shows. Continue reading “Fri. – 4/27 – Yes, your phone calls do matter. Thank you.”

Fri. – 4/27 – Some good environmental news!

Greetings Activists:

I have more good news to report on our work to ban the use of nylon drift nets used in the commercial fishing industry off the coast of California.

Our team has been working with the offices of California U.S. Senators D. Feinstein and K. Harris and we now have for the first time ever a federal bill to phase out the use of these deadly marine mammal killing nets.

The bill, which does not have an official Senate number yet but has a name ‘Drift Net Modernization and Bycatch Reduction Act‘  was just introduced on April 26th. We have a ways to go to get it passed by the U.S. Senate and then the U.S. House of Representatives. We are told to expect the Trump Administration to oppose this bill.

But for now let’s all contact Senators Feinstein and Harris and thank them for putting this bill together and introducing the bill  into the U.S. Senate.

Trump The Destroyer.

BREAKING NEWS:
The White House has just told us that on Monday December 4th, The President of the United States will fly to Salt Lake City Utah to sign documents to officially reduce the size by 90% of Bears Ears National Monument and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in southeastern Utah.
The President will only make a quick stop in Salt Lake City to do this but we will have massive crowds on hand at the SLC airport to protect the President’s action. The American people do not want their national monuments tampered with.
On Tuesday December 5th we will be in court.
