OMG, this seems like so long ago…We miss you all and hope to see you soon. Stay well.
TODAY – Thursday, 5/21: If you haven’t emailed us for postcards to do at home, please do so now!
Indivisible Chicago Alliance is reaching out to voters in both Wisconsin and Michigan. We asked to join in, for whichever state they needed the help for more. We just received 2500 cards for Michigan, hopefully the first of many thousands to arrive there by way of concerned citizens in Ventura County
If you’ve already received cards from us, you are on our nifty new spreadsheet and we’ll be sending your orders out shortly.
If you haven’t received cards from us, please send us an email to indivisibleventura@gmail.com with “SEND ME POSTCARDS!” in the subject line. Please include your name, your full mailing address, your phone number in case we have questions, how many postcards you want and whether or not you also need stamps.
Our country may be on lockdown, but the resistance is flexible…
We at Indivisible Ventura assessed our activity calendar to see what we could still accomplish during this quarantine period. The answer? A lot, just not the activities that require us to be in the same place. Keep calling your legislators, keep writing comments to the regulators, and participate in the peaceful democratic actions outlined below that connect us to writers, texters, callers and voters across America.
All activities located on college campuseshave been cancelled until the quarantine is lifted. This includes all our voter registration and census education dates.
Both citizenship fairs this month have been cancelled. If you are a person or know a person needing immigration services, including citizenship forms, DACA and green card renewals, please contact our trusted partners for assistance:
Postcard Action #1 – UPDATE: The April 16th’s Postcard Party is CANCELLED – but that doesn’t mean 500 folks in Arizona won’t be getting hand-written postcards!
We will be putting together kits of cards, scripts and addresses for Arizona – We’ll be sending 500 postcards to voters along with a short script from Center For Common Ground’s Reclaim our Vote Campaign, who is working with the NAACP, Black Voters Matter, Mi Familia Vota, VoteRiders and DemLabs. These voters may have been dropped from voting rolls. This reminder postcard could save voters being turned away, a horrible experience, after waiting hours in line. The dignity of very single vote matters.
For those who have already attended our postcard parties, here’s what we need from you to get your kit:
In our voting guide, we asked people to use Politico’s “views-on-the-issues” list and Washington Post’s candidate quiz to help them determine which candidate best encompassed their values. Now, we’re asking people to go further. The transformation of America into the forward-looking country we need requires us, as the military says, to “leave no one behind,” regardless of race, religion, physical abilities or gender. To be truly indivisible. Today’s action is informational, a moment to listen to what was missed from the national discussion.

Deeper dive into the RECLAIM OUR VOTE campaign. Why do we need this campaign? Community of color voters are being placed on “Inactive” or “Unregistered” lists at a 16% higher rate than whites. The ability to vote of people in minority communities was already being systematically undermined over the last decade, by the imposition of strict new voter ID laws, by the reduction in polling places and early voting, and through many other tactics.

ALL of the members of the CA Indivisible coalition are working together to drive calls to our legislators to push important bills through their house. Today, we’re asking for a flood of support for AB-392 “Peace officers: deadly force“. This bill, backed by the ACLU,civil-liberties groups, labor unions, and families, CHANGES the standards about when police are allowed to use deadly force from “reasonable” to “only as a LAST resort” and mandates de-escalation.
Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I’m calling (optional: “as a member of Indivisible”) to ask Assemblymember [___] to support AB 392 to change California’s policy for police use of deadly force.
More script if you want it: Too many people, mostly young men of color, are killed at the hands of police every year with no justice due to our weak standard for use of force. This needs to end.
