Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News. Trump Failure Edition

Oh, let us count the ways Mr. Trump has failed this week. There’s just sooooo much of it!

Trump fails at his attempt to penalize sanctuary cities. We’ve collectively made a lot of phone calls about this one! Keep up the pressure by calling about the “California Sanctuary State” bill.

It took Trump THREE tries to get his horrible healthcare bill through the House. The good news? The Senate is going to hate it and send it back to the House after many amendments.

What can YOU do to stop this? We are participating in three die-ins this week in neighboring districts to show Congressmen who voted for TrumpCare that we will not tolerate this twice. Click here for more info (carpooling available). Click here to see why these die-ins work.

Yet ANOTHER fail: No funding for Trump’s stupid wall in the federal spending bill. Yup, we were all over this one too. GREAT job everyone.

Oh, and there’s MORE: No funding cuts for Planned Parenthood, the NIH, PBS, NPR, and the EPA—will continue to receive funding. Many actions were taken for these issues, you can continue to support EPA protection here.

Although GOPs planned to exempt themselves from TrumpCare, they turned tail Continue reading “Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-saving Good News. Trump Failure Edition”

Daddy, tell us again what clean water from the tap was like… Tell the EPA!

We’ve had a great response to our call for EPA comments! Next we highlight the Clean Water Act. The new administration’s open comment period for EPA environmental regulation rollback is NOW.

A flood of written public comments is one of our best tactics for slowing the process down. Time to write instead of call!

As before, we are including some sample scripts to inspire you, but ask that you make your comments with your own words, and in your own voice. They are on the lookout for identical comments that appear to come from mass mailings.

Here’s a sample script/inspiration document that we at Indivisible have put together: https://tinyurl.com/epa-talking-points

Keep the Methane Waste Prevention Rule. No deregulation of emissions of this greenhouse gas! (1 of 2)

The House has passed a resolution to repeal the BLM’s methane waste prevention rule; it now heads to the Senate. The rule limits the amount of methane (a powerful greenhouse gas) that can be released on public lands by oil and gas drilling companies. This is just another effort by the GOP to de-regulate emissions and lay waste to the environment. Say “NO” to SJ Res 11.

Script: I’m calling to ask Senator (____) to say NO to the repeal of the BLM’s methane waste prevention rule. Destroying our environment to help the GOP’s corporate friends is unacceptable.

Call Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

AND Senator Harris: DC (202) 224-3553, LA (213) 894-5000, SAC (916) 448-2787, Fresno (916) 448-2787, SF (415) 355-9041, SD (619) 239-3884

Tell the EPA that you like the Clean Air Act. Don’t rollback 50 years of environment victories!

We have a brand new type of action this week, one that we’ve been working on behind the scenes for a while now. It will take place for the next two weeks, until May 15, and we hope for your fervent participation.

The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a request for comments about regulations. They expect the comments to focus on why regulations are bad for someone’s bottom line.

Let’s prove them wrong.

We’d like you to go to the EPA comment page, and voice your support for EPA regulations. We are providing some sample scripts to inspire you, but ask that you make your comments with your own words, and in your own voice. They are on the lookout for identical comments that appear to come from mass mailings.

To keep things as simple as possible, we’re going to ask you to comment on specific types of regulations throughout the next two weeks. We’ll start with the Clean Air Act, which is of critical importance to California, and will subsequently focus on clean water, pollutants, etc.

Tell the EPA that you like the Clean Air Act, and remind the EPA that throughout their nearly 50 years, they have had a lot of environmental victories.

Here’s a sample script/inspiration document that we at Indivisible have put together: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qGumuye1NZGY4AK13dabAbdfvQL9sO1vOpzChft1v8o/edit?usp=sharing

Say No to EPA Budget Cuts: A 31% cut threatens jobs, national security and the environment

Trump says he’s committed to America’s jobs and national security, but his proposed 31% slash to the EPA budget threatens both. Eliminating 3,200 jobs, supporting fossil fuels over renewable energy, eliminating the popular Energy Star program, and preventing hazardous waste cleanup and the ability to prosecute those responsible does not make America great.

Script: I’m calling (_____) to stand against any attempt to defund the EPA. We need to know that the quality of our air, and water are protected, we get the information we need to buy wisely and that toxic chemicals are being eliminated from our environment.

Call all three Members of Congress

Tweet Interior Secretary Zinke (@SecretaryZinke): No offshore drilling! (1 of 2)

Zinke told us Monday, when he had the audacity to visit the site of our nation’s first major oil spill, that the way to reach him is via Twitter. Let’s make sure he knows he’ll encounter a wall of California resistance if he attempts to increase offshore drilling along our coast.

Buh-bye Bannon!

Steve Bannon has been removed from the National Security Council fulfilling our collective dreams when we made phone calls to our congresswoman!

…and Nunes

Devin Nunes will step aside from leading the investigation into Trump’s ties with Russia. (He’s now officially under an ethics investigation himself.) Was there a call to action on our part? Why, yes, there was! Great job everyone!

Next up – Bill O’Reilly! More than 40 companies pulled their ads from The O’Reilly Factor, following sexual harassment accusations. Sleeping Giants, who have worked diligently to have advertisers remove their presence on Breitbart, is now working on getting advertisers to stop advertising on Fox News during Bill O’Reilly’s show.  Keep up the pressure! Here is their current list that is being updated

And in case you missed it:

A Kentucky judge ruled that a lawsuit accusing Trump of inciting violence can proceed, dismissing his free speech defense. According to the judge, Trump’s remarks against protesters at a campaign rally “at least ‘implicitly encouraged the use of violence or lawless action.’”

California Leading the Charge

On Monday evening, Senate Bill 54, the “sanctuary state” bill, or CA Values Act, was passed. The bill will now go to the State Assembly, and if approved, to Governor Brown. Take some time to “happy dance,”because our phone calls began a process that will make a HUGE difference in so many lives!
