This includes: S.951, which will block all new rules that protect our health, environment and civil rights in favor of corporate interests, S.21, which will create regulations that obstruct the operation of the federal government and S.34, will allows the GOP to kill programs and services without consideration of the effects on us.

Thanks to all who wrote comments into the EPA! They got more than 55,100 responses and now they’re listening!

EPA asked the public which regulations to gut — and got an earful about leaving them alone! (Our calls to action were herehere, here, and here.)

Last month, the Environmental Protection Agency put out a call for comments about what regulations are in need of repeal, replacement or modification. The effort stemmed from an executive order issued by President Trump earlier this year instructing agencies to reexamine regulations that “eliminate jobs, or inhibit job creation” and/or “impose costs that exceed benefits.”

More than 55,100 responses rolled in by the time the comment period closed on Monday — but they were full of Americans sharing their experiences of growing up with dirty air and water, and with pleas for the agency not to undo safeguards that could return the country to more a more polluted era.

“Know your history or you’ll be doomed to repeat it,” one person wrote. “Environmental regulations came about for a reason. There is scientific reasoning behind the need for it. It is not a conspiracy to harm corporations. It’s an attempt to make the people’s lives better.”

Department of the Interior Request for Comments on National Monuments

The DOI is reviewing large national monuments created since 1996, with the potential to reduce their size. We’re sure Trump has “friends” waiting for profitable leases for drilling, mining, ranching or logging on this land, spoiling them for public access. Bear’s Ears (Utah) is the first on the auction block, and the most threatened. Six monuments in CA are also under threat.  Let’s let the DOI know that we like our national monuments unspoiled, and preserved for future generations.

Action: We need lots of comments on the agency website, the first (Bear’s Ears) is due May 26, 2017. Comments for other changes are due by July 10, 2017. We need to get cracking.

Betsy DeVos got the respect she deserves…

LOVE THIS. Democrats are showing up at Republican Town Halls! Democratic legislators taking town halls for cowardly GOP members. “Hey, listen, I have a question for you,” he said. “I’m Representative Sean Patrick Maloney. Where the heck is your congressman?”

Despite Trump’s attempt to end the investigation into his ties with Russia, the Senate Intelligence Committee invited Comey to testify next week and subpoenaed Michael Flynn. (Federal prosecutors also issued subpoenas to Flynn’s associates.) Meanwhile, Democrats slowed Senate activity to demand the appointment of a special prosecutor, and the media called out Trump’s “grotesque abuse of power.” A handful of Republicans also expressed concern. KEEP UP THE PRESSURE – MAKE MORE PHONE CALLS TO APPOINT A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR HERE.

Support Regulation of Pesticides and Chemicals. We Enjoy Breathing Without Getting Sick!

EPA Request for Comments – We’re up to 45,000 from 4,000! We’re hoping to get into 6 figures, so write, and write often!

Please keep those EPA comments coming!  Next we tackle a grab bag of environmental regulations that cover pesticides, chemicals, lead, radiation, etc.  The new administration’s open comment period for EPA environmental regulation rollback is NOW.   A flood of written public comments is one of our best tactics for slowing the process down. Time to write instead of call!
