Last week, we asked people to call Rep. Frederica Wilson’s office to share some kind words with her and her staff .

They’ve been swamped by negative and threatening messages for standing up to Trump. If you haven’t heard about this, click here and add your voice of support to her and her staff.

Of course, someone made it worse…

On Oct. 20th, Los Angeles’ KFI 640 morning radio host Bill Handel called Rep. Wilson, a “cheap, sleazy, Democrat whore” (if you can stomach listening to it: http://bit.ly/2yZ3Pi4), spreading this dangerous message of hate against Ms. Wilson. He’s contributed to the hate and death threats causing Rep. Wilson to feel too threatened to return to DC to do her job. (http://bit.ly/2id9SWp)

WH Chief of Staff John Kelly has jettisoned his honor and dignity to defame the legislator, lying about an incident in which contrary video evidence exists.

Remind Marriott not to host hate groups.

“ACT for America is the country’s largest anti-Muslim hate group, and they work tirelessly to undermine Muslim communities and our allies. They support a broad racist, anti-Muslim, and White Nationalist agenda—not just the Muslim Ban, but a wall on the US-Mexico border, and the ending of DACA, too.

At their last national event back in June, ACT for America was joined by members of Identity Evropa and Vanguard America—the same groups involved in the deadly neo-Nazi riot in Charlottesville.

Now, ACT is planning their annual conference next weekend (October 2nd and 3rd)—at the Marriott in Arlington, VA.

Working against the September 30^th deadline for the budget reconciliation instructions, Senate republicans are trying once again to ram a repeal bill through the Senate. After some members of the Senate called for regular order – a public process with committee hearings, expert testimony and opportunity to offer amendments – the Senate Finance Committee will meet on Monday, September 25^th at 2:00pm EDT in a hastily thrown together attempt at “regular order.” However, without a full CBO score detailing the impact on how many consumers will lose coverage and with no time for actual debate, this hearing is nothing more than a distraction from what is really happening: the latest attempt to gut Medicaid and strip health care from millions of Americans.

The hearing record needs to be filled with strong statements of opposition from organizations and individuals!

Draft comments detailing the harmful effects of the Graham-Cassidy bill.
At the committee’s request, be sure to submit comments with the following formatting instructions: a typewritten, single-spaced statement, not exceeding 10 pages in length, with title and date of the hearing and the full name and address of the individual or organization on the first page of the statement.

The Trump administration is trying to remove environmental protections that would shield public and tribal lands and water from the worst effects of fracking.

The Bureau of Land Management’s fracking rule was created to make sure that fracking well construction protects local water supplies, ensure that the fluids that flow back to the surface because of fracking are managed responsibly, and provide public disclosure of the chemicals used in fracking. Removing safeguards only benefits Trump’s oil industry buddies.

Fracking injects millions of gallons of fluids and chemicals directly into the earth. A 2011 study by the House Committee on Energy identified more than 700 chemicals used in fracking, including benzene, acrylamide, ethylene oxide, bisphenol A (BPA), and formaldehyde — all well-known carcinogens.

Women line up to vote for the first time in New York after the passage of the 19th Amendment, New York, New York, 1920.

On Saturday 8/26, join in the Indivisible March on Los Angeles, both to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote, and to show that we’re willing to stand up to “the most openly misogynist, regressive, bigoted, corrupt and dangerous administration in United States history” as well.

So today, we thought we’d put together some quick actions in honor of equal rights and voting. If you don’t have your phone optimized for fast calling yet, do that first.

We recommend that you CALL legislators that haven’t supported a bill yet and EMAIL to thank those who have. “Thank you” emails are encouraging to our legislators without tying up phone lines needed for action calls.

Call or thank? We’ve put in our legislators in the examples below. Not sure whether or not yours has signed up to sponsor something? Go to Congress.gov. Type in the bill # in the search function, hit the “Co-sponsors” tab. Sorting by “Alphabetical – by name” makes finding them easy.

The EPA is moving forward with a Clean Water Rule repeal by revising the definition of “Waters of the United States” covered by the Rule. The 30-day public comment period is now open. The rollback threatens drinking water for 117 million people.
