Stop government intrusion into decisions families make with their doctors.

No on H.R. 36: Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act!

Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to urge Rep. [___]  to vote NO on H.R. 36, which would make it a crime to perform or attempt to perform an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

More script if you want it: Only 1.3% of US abortions occur after the 20th week and usually because of severe fetal anomalies or maternal health risks. This bill risks the lives of women and interferes with their Constitutionally guaranteed reproductive rights.

Call Rep. Julia Brownley: (CA-26): DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779

OR Rep. Salud Carbajal: (CA-24): DC (202) 225-3601, SB (805) 730-1710 SLO (805) 546-8348

Bug Betsy! Mon – 9/18

Reports are that her office didn’t love all the calls she got on this last week.

So what should we do? CALL MORE, of course!

Minimal Script: Hi, I’m from [state], and concerned about Betsy DeVos’ efforts to weaken Title IX (Title 9) protections for survivors of sexual assault. I am calling to request keeping these protections in place. Thank you.

Call: US Department of Education, 800-872-5327.

10-minute Fun-Pak of Voting & Equal Rights Actions. Get ready for the March!

Women line up to vote for the first time in New York after the passage of the 19th Amendment, New York, New York, 1920.

On Saturday 8/26, join in the Indivisible March on Los Angeles, both to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote, and to show that we’re willing to stand up to “the most openly misogynist, regressive, bigoted, corrupt and dangerous administration in United States history” as well.

So today, we thought we’d put together some quick actions in honor of equal rights and voting. If you don’t have your phone optimized for fast calling yet, do that first.

We recommend that you CALL legislators that haven’t supported a bill yet and EMAIL to thank those who have. “Thank you” emails are encouraging to our legislators without tying up phone lines needed for action calls.

Call or thank? We’ve put in our legislators in the examples below. Not sure whether or not yours has signed up to sponsor something? Go to Congress.gov. Type in the bill # in the search function, hit the “Co-sponsors” tab. Sorting by “Alphabetical – by name” makes finding them easy.

Representative/Senator Contacts are listed at the bottom of this post.

Action #1 – Extend the deadline of the ERA. (H.J.Res 53 / S.J.Res 5)

Friday 10-minute Resistance Diet

We at Indivisible gnaw on legislators’ corruption and greed. The effort keeps us lean.

This has been a big week for bad bills!

Let’s do a 10-minute call blitz to add to our legislator’s call tallies. We have short and long versions for scripts. Choose what seems natural to you. If calling makes you nervous, take a minute to read this:

The United States has one of the worst maternal health records in the developed world

Both bills (S 1112 / HR 1318) support States in their work to save and sustain the health of mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and in the postpartum period.  Every year in the U.S., 700 to 900 women die from pregnancy or childbirth-related causes, and some 65,000 nearly die —the worst record in the developed world. These bills aim to identify solutions to improve healthcare and health outcomes for mothers.

Script:  I’m calling […] to ask them to support [S 1112 / HR 1318].  It’s way past time for the United States to address our persistently high maternal mortality rates.

Call all three Members of Congress

Rep. Julia Brownley: (CA-26): DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779

OR Rep. Salud Carbajal: (CA-24): DC (202) 225-3601, SB (805) 730-1710 SLO (805) 546-8348

Thank Ventura-based Patagonia for supporting Planned Parenthood – Brieitbart is slamming them!

Patagonia is being slammed by Breitbart and other right-wing media outlets for its strong defense of our national parks and monuments and for its donations to Planned Parenthood. As a result, the company has been receiving tons of negative phone calls, which has been demoralizing to the staff. A little love from the public would be very much appreciated.

Script:  I’m calling to thank Patagonia for its support for our environment and Planned Parenthood. We’ve heard that you’ve been getting a lot of harsh calls, but we want you to know that a lot of people appreciate your support for these important issues.  I’m proud have Ventura-headquartered Patagonia as my neighbor.

Call Patagonia: 805-643-8616

The GOP has been trying to shut down Planned Parenthood for years, and they’re getting alarmingly close.

Buried amid Medicaid cuts and regulatory changes in the Senate Trumpcare bill is a provision stopping Medicaid funds from going to Planned Parenthood for one year. The organization’s clinics could lose between 30 and 40 percent of their funding. This would devastate Planned Parenthood which provides health-care services to 2.4 million people each year.

Script: I’m calling to ask Senator (Feinstein and Harris) to vote NO on any attempt to defund Planned Parenthood. I expect my Senator to vote against any attacks on Planned Parenthood and the vital health services they provide.  My zip code is [#####]. Thank you for your time.

Call Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

Senator Harris: DC (202) 224-3553, LA (213) 894-5000, SAC (916) 448-2787, Fresno (559) 497-5109, SF (415) 355-9041, SD (619) 239-3884

Now is the time to ensure California women & their families have family planning services they need. (SB743)

SB 743 allows the Medi-Cal (California’s version of Medicaid) to cover family planning services, such as Planned Parenthood. California has implemented this freedom of choice provision for decades, but it is not codified in California law. Given recent events in Washington, now is the time to ensure California women and their families have the family planning services they need.

Script: Hi I’m calling to urge Senator Jackson to support SB743. We need to ensure that Medi-Cal patients will continue to receive the family planning services they need.
Call Hannah-Beth Jackson: SAC (916) 651-4019, SB (805) 965-0862, OX (805) 988-1940

It’s decision time for hundreds of pieces of legislation in California this week. Make some calls!

The Senate’s fiscal committee will decide the fate of bills on Thursday, June 1st; the Assembly will do so on Friday, June 2nd.  The ones that pass will then move to the opposite house.

With our strong Democratic majority, California has the ability to counter some of the negative policies coming out of Washington D.C. Our friends at Indivisible San Francisco short-listed some of the most important bills. If you have time this week, please pick the ones that speak the most to you, and make some phone calls.

State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and Assemblywoman Monique Limon don’t receive many calls from their constituents, so if we all make our voices heard this week, we can make a real difference.

CALL TO STATE ACTION

TUESDAY 5/30 – FRIDAY 6/2
Pick your favorite bills from the list ISF has put together and let our state MoCs know how you feel.

Assembly: Call State Assembly Member Monique Limón: Sacramento: (916) 319-2037, Santa Barbara: (805) 564-1649, Ventura: (805) 641-3700 If outside of these areas, find your Representatives here.
