Sunday 9/29 & onwards: We have so much to do! Mark your calendars – SIX (6) actions!

While our ethically-challenged president is mired in a mess of his own making, we are pushing forward. Here are six hands-on, educational or inspirational immigration-related actions that will make our community better. Join in!

Action #1: THIS SUNDAY- 9/29: Volunteer, help spread the word and/or donate to our local free citizenship fair – Swap Meet Justice!

What are we doing? We help our neighbors turn their green cards (permanent residency cards) into citizenship. We also help renew green card and DACA applications and sign up new voters. Come help!

Thinking about being a volunteer? You don’t have to be a lawyer. You don’t need to speak a foreign language, but that extra skill is appreciated. You don’t have to be a citizen and you don’t have to be over 18. Teen volunteers are great! Note: First-time volunteers MUST take a 1-hour training course at 8:30 am.

  • More details here!
  • Where: Oxnard Community Marketplace –  Oxnard College Campus.
  • When: We are open from 8am-3pm, last application starting at ±1:00 pm.

Wed. 9/25: Vote “NO” on “pay-no-attention-to-anything-I-wrote-or-did” guy. Vote may be tomorrow!

Action: Tell your senators that Steven Menashi is not welcome on our highest courts.

President Trump announced his intent to nominate Steven Menashi to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals for the seat previously held by Thurgood Marshall, and most immediately held by Judge Dennis Jacobs. He was unpopular inside and outside his nomination hearing. This guy was not even supported by his home-state senators from NY.

Tues 9/24: IMPEACH. Rinse, Repeat.

Action –  Flood their phone lines! Apply pressure. That’s our power.

It’s time for people who think that President Donald Trump should be removed from office to get on the phone and tell their senators and representatives. Now is when it matters. And yes: That kind of direct contact really does make a difference.” – Jonathon Bernstein

Minimal Script for our representatives: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want to thank Rep. [Brownley/Carbajal] for supporting the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
(Check here to see if your representative is already on board.)

Minimal Script for our senators: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Senator [___] to publicly call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Mon. 9/23: Asylum America – Write a comment today! Deadline 11:59 pm EST.

Unless our people came here unwillingly, or were standing on the shore watching the first ships land, we are beneficiaries of asylum – our people were refugees from failed crops and starvation, from joblessness, from poverty, from corruption, from religious persecution and from threats against their lives. (Even Swedish German former brothel owners were welcome to return after being banished from the country of their birth for draft dodging.) In our forefather’s shoes, we walked down a gangplank into America and a new life.

We owe a debt, those of us who got here before cruel immigration limits kicked in, for there was nowhere else to go. Pay it back by standing indivisible with the people coming here now. They too, are running from failed crops and starvation, from joblessness, from poverty, from corruption and from threats against their lives, and they need our help.

Action: Write a comment to oppose Trump’s proposal to further bloat the anti-American “Expedited Removal” rule. Due tonight!

Expedited removal . . . represented a dramatic assault on the due process rights . . . . [It grants] extraordinary and unprecedented power to low-level immigration officers to remove individuals without review and without a fair hearing.” – ACLU

Your voice matters and is needed now more than ever. Your comment doesn’t need to be long. A few sentences are fine. It just needs to sound exactly LIKE YOU.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, don’t copy anyone else’s comment verbatim. It will be thrown out by the moderator. Don’t bother with petitions either, as all the signatures only count as “1”.

That diversity is the basis of our strength and we are stronger together.

Mission Statement:We the People are marching to be seen and heard. We are marching to remind our elected of cials that they work for us. We are marching because the current regime is a threat to our democracy and values. We are marching to demand action. Silence and inaction are complicity.
