Swap Meet Justice began as a result of our voter registration efforts. We learned that the people passing us by were permanent legal residents who wanted to become citizens but were facing significant challenges in doing so. These included unaffordable attorney fees for help with the application process, and the impossibility of taking time off from work to meet with them.
Ventura’s resistance movement is strong and varied. Check out our entire list of events and keep track here. Send additions for the list to indivisibleventura@gmail.com
Action #1: THIS SUNDAY- 12/29: Volunteer, help spread the word and/or donate to our local free citizenship fair – Swap Meet Justice!
What are we doing? We help our neighbors turn their green cards (permanent residency cards) into citizenship. We also help renew green card and DACA applications and register new voters. Come help! No experience required.
We believe that America needsimmigrants – their energy, their inventiveness, their work ethic and their bravery, as much as they need opportunity and safe harbor.
We believe that helping our newest immigrants honors the sacrifices our own families made, and the help they received, when they first arrived in this country generations ago.
We believe that we can make a profound difference in the lives of others when we work together.
Action #1: SPREAD THE WORD! The UFW Citizenship fair is happening in PIRU tomorrow – Friday, Jan. 24th!
The UFW doesn’t need more volunteers, but they’d appreciate if you’d share this with your social circle. NOTE: THEY HAVE FUNDING FOR DACA! Call to see if you, friends or family qualify. Flyers, in Spanish and English, are here.
Action #2: THIS SUNDAY- 1/26: Volunteer, help spread the word and/or donate to our local free citizenship fair – Swap Meet Justice!

If you’ve never watch Ronald Reagan’s astonishing last speech as president, reminding his listeners that immigration is “the great life force of each generation of new Americans…” watch it here. (Quick timeline of the history of immigration here.)

While our ethically-challenged president is mired in a mess of his own making, we are pushing forward. Here are four actions that will connect you more deeply with this great community.
(See 3 actions you can do from home to help in election and impeachment efforts in other states here)
Action #1: Saturday – 10/26: Join “Ventura Critical Mass” in their first “Solidarity Bide Ride” in Oxnard.
Critical Mass is an unorganized coincidence, a movement of bicycles in the streets, a monthly gathering to celebrate cycling and affirm the rights of cyclists in the streets. It is an idea and an event. It’s free. It is not a race. It’s just for fun. It happens when many cyclists meet in the same place, at the same time and decide to pedal the same route together for a while. The idea is for people to group together, making it safer for each other to ride bicycles through their streets. Saturday, October 26th. Meet at 1pm. The ride starts at 2pm. The route begins near Oxnard’s Downtown Main Library. More information on their Facebook page here.
While our ethically-challenged president is mired in a mess of his own making, we are pushing forward. Here are six hands-on, educational or inspirational immigration-related actions that will make our community better. Join in!
