Provide Comments to Dept. of the Interior. Save our Channel Islands!

Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary is on the hit list for possible elimination by the Trump Administration. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said he envisions “dozens of offshore oil platforms in the Santa Barbara Channel, but first we have to remove the overly strict regulations imposed as a result of the protected marine sanctuary“. The process has started.

Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-Saving Good News! – The Real 4th of July Edition

This kind of makes me cry. This is what makes all of our resistance efforts worthwhile. This is what makes it imperative that we continue. These kids know what is right. We owe it to them to keep fighting the cancer of hatred and fear that is spreading through our society. We owe it to them to keep fighting the dark-money forces that are entrenched in every branch of government. Let this be a real 4th of July, where we celebrate the true gifts that America promises. Then, go out and protest, because that’s how we keep them.

We still have a long way to go…

Thank Ventura-based Patagonia for supporting Planned Parenthood – Brieitbart is slamming them!

Patagonia is being slammed by Breitbart and other right-wing media outlets for its strong defense of our national parks and monuments and for its donations to Planned Parenthood. As a result, the company has been receiving tons of negative phone calls, which has been demoralizing to the staff. A little love from the public would be very much appreciated.

Script:  I’m calling to thank Patagonia for its support for our environment and Planned Parenthood. We’ve heard that you’ve been getting a lot of harsh calls, but we want you to know that a lot of people appreciate your support for these important issues.  I’m proud have Ventura-headquartered Patagonia as my neighbor.

Trump’s proposed budget completely defunds the West Coast’s earthquake warning system

After years of work, an earthquake early warning system for the west coast was scheduled to begin operating next year. The system would deliver an early warning of an earthquake or tsunami to every cell phone. Trump’s budget would defund it. Public safety is a nonpartisan issue, and stopping progress on the warning system would put millions of lives at risk.

Script:  I’m calling to ask (___) to fight to maintain funding for the west coast earthquake warning system that has been in development for many years.  Public safety is a nonpartisan issue.

Your Weekly Dose of Sanity Saving Good News! – “Taking Down the Tree” Edition

Strength in Numbers

(From SmallDeedsDone) “Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.”
– Andrew Carnegie
Leaf cutter ants are peculiar, fascinating little creatures. They use their buzzsaw-like jaws to cut up leaves that they then carry back to their massive nests. They are impressively strong, being able to lift and carry 30-50 times their own weight.
That’s one powerful animal – no question about it.
But their true strength – their real power – lies in their ability to work as a team, with each individual ant’s actions feeding into the larger group’s objectives.
On its own, one ant can cut up plenty of leaves. But working together, a large nest can strip a tree of its leaves overnight.
Just imagine that for a second. Thousands upon thousands of tiny creatures can strip an entire tree of its leaves – because each one takes a teeny tiny bite.
So let’s bring the analogy back to ourselves…

Remember who we are.

Remember what we’ve done.

Thank You, Governor Brown!

California Governor Jerry Brown is stepping into the environmental leadership void left by Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord. Just this week, Brown met with President Xi Jinping of China to discuss ways to collaborate on emission reductions. Let’s thank Jerry Brown for his leadership on climate change, and for making Californians proud of our role on the global stage.

Let’s join other cities in committing to 100% renewable energy by 2030!

The Feds have dropped the ball on fighting climate change. Our President just took us out of the Paris Climate Accord and our government is now festering with science-deniers.

It’s time for us to step up to fill the gap with local action!

The City of Ventura created a great Environmental report in 2012: http://www.ca-ilg.org/sites/main/files/file-attachments/draft-environmental-strategy-v_1_9-mw1.pdf.

But let’s ask them to go further than 20% renewable energy by 2020!

Let’s join Santa Barbara and 29 other cities who are committing to 100% renewable energy by 2030.  Here’s the docs from the City of Santa Barbara we can use as a guide. https://tinyurl.com/ybugka62, https://tinyurl.com/yckav3mt, & https://tinyurl.com/y7g2hjjf.

Support the Environment in the Budget!

Fight Trump’s multi-pronged attack on the environment!

Trump has pulled us out of the Paris Climate Accord, and his budget slashes EPA funding by 31%.  Ask Congress to support common-sense climate action, by completely funding the EPA, and providing foreign assistance for climate adaptation, funding for alternative energy research, and job retraining for workers impacted by the transition to clean energy.

Script:  I’m calling to ask (___) to counter Trump’s move on the Paris Climate Accord by fighting for common-sense climate action in the budget, including fully funding the EPA and transitioning us to a clean energy future.

Say “NO” to another Climate Change Denier!

Enough with these horrid Climate Science Deniers!

David Bernhardt, an oil lobbyist who has been nominated to be Deputy Secretary of the Interior, remarked during his Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee confirmation hearing that following Trump’s policies would take precedence over climate science. Oppose Bernhardt’s nomination, we don’t need another oil lobbyist and climate science denier in the government.

Script: Hi, I’m calling Senator (____) to insist that the next person working on environmental issues in the Federal government have a minimum requirement of understanding the seriousness of global warming as well as the ability to stand up to the President when he’s wrong. We already have enough lapdogs for that man.
