Danica Roem, the first openly transgender state lawmaker in U.S. history, worked hard for her success by knocking on 75,000 doors, many several times, to have 75,000 conversations.
We’re having those conversations too, learning a lot and having a great time doing it. Canvassers from Indivisibles Ventura, Conejo and Ojai Valley carpooled to Palmdale to team up with resistance people from all over Southern California to talk to CA-25 voters about issues with Republican representative Steve Knight .
Come join in! Elections are successful when people know that their voices count. Help canvass, register voters, phone bank, text bank, call your legislators, etc. Keep up with our “Events” page, https://indivisibleventura.org/events/.
If you’re interested in learning to canvass, training is always provided and you’ll be paired with more experienced people as you learn. This is actually a great activity for introverts who are good listeners.
We are the majority and we need to be heard. Come help make this happen.
Trump wasn’t an accident. He wasn’t an anomaly.
The voting problem is on us and we need to solve it.
Come learn how.
With fun, food and interesting people.
See you at 11:30 this morning.

This wasn’t where I planned to start, but this short video is profound and it moved me to tears…
Malice may attack it,…
Removing the statues = Step 1. The Equal Justice Initiative (eji.org) is working to ensure that we better understand the history of white supremacist violence against black people with a national lynching memorial. Watch this great interview of the EJI Director Bryan Stevenson and singer songwriter Andra Day on the Daily Show. We can read more about the project here, and we can donate at this link.

Today, Indivisible Ventura is asking you to do one (1) action.
“Which is great, because you actually asked us to do 16 yesterday!!!” (Yes, we did.)
We’re asking for just this one today because this is a foundational action, one that literally affects the political environment we move through every day. Because what happened to this woman’s dad happened to mine, and happened to people all over the country. And it is still happening…to people who never miss an election.
(Watch both of these short clips…they cover different aspects)

The Trump administration wants to start drilling in marine sanctuaries, including our own Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary.
Maybe they don’t remember… Maybe they don’t care.

We need to stop them.

Our deadline: July 26th, 11:59 PM ET
Read about this issue here and here: http://saveourmarinesanctuaries.org
This last one includes a sample letter, which is detailed and really long. However, that’s not the only way to do this. Write from your heart about what these sanctuaries mean to you, your family, your business, our environment, our state. They can be short. Look at the comment site itself for more inspiration. Some comments already posted are only one sentence. Just write as many messages as you can.
There are some dark forces at work here. So let’s review our strongest weapon, one that we can wield every day like a short rectangular wand…
Yes, it is your humble, yet amazing phone!
– How do I know who to phone or what to say?
– Calling people I don’t know gives me hives. Really!
– Why do I need to call? All my representatives are Democrats.
– I have a life, you know. I don’t have time to make these calls every day …
Yesterday, we posted the Friday 10-minute Resistance Diet. It consisted of 3 issues for our senators and 2 for our representative, plus 2 written regulatory comments. If one keeps the written comments short and pithy, it can be done in LESS than 10 minutes. I used the spare time to call a few more of Feinstein’s offices.
– Why do I need to do this? Aren’t there enough of you people doing this already?
What the GOP is doing can cost you thousands of dollars, a bankruptcy, or even your health, your life or the life of someone you care about. Pretty big stakes. Yeah, we’re crazy committed, but we can’t personally make the thousands of calls a day that are necessary to make the GOP nervous. Please jump in. It gets faster and easier. It makes you powerful.
– Here’s the latest comparison between the ACA and the GOP plan.
– Here’s how Trump can make us miserable even if the GOP can’t get the votes they need.
– Calling is way easier than doing this.
– Does all this calling really have any effect?
Yes. Click here. Continue reading “This Week in Resistance – “Collusion isn’t Illegal!” Edition”
(Huffpost) “Every year, the U.S. holds special citizenship-induction ceremonies on or around the Fourth of July. This year, nearly 15,000 people were being sworn in as U.S. citizens at more than 65 such gatherings across the country, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
At one of those ceremonies, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) ― the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica ― took not-so-veiled jabs at President Donald Trump, who has called for limits on legal immigration along with his effort to ramp up deportation of undocumented immigrants.
“Whenever you feel that future is threatened, whenever those values of liberty and justice for all that drew us here seem under assault, you need to speak up and speak out,” Harris said at a ceremony on the battleship Iowa in the Port of Los Angeles on Monday, according to prepared remarks. “That’s the whole point of the freedoms we cherish.” Continue reading “Your Weekly Dose of Sanity-Saving Good News! “We are a country, I believe, full of determination, hope, and compassion. We cannot and will not stay silent on something that fundamentally challenges our values.
I am determined to fight this bill.
I am hopeful that our leaders will listen.
I believe our American values can prevail when we join together in the fight for the lives of every American.
I know we can do this together.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.”
(From Connie Britton)
Remember, as we leave the 4th of July behind, that this country was born of resistance and that revolutionaries were the first patriots. So wave your flags proudly, as our movement is as American as it gets… Conservatives…well, recently, even the words of that revolution made them kind of nervous.
