CA roars! We’re taking back net neutrality with SB 822!

This wouldn’t be the first time that the state with the nation’s largest economy has set its own agenda. We have some of the strictest environmental standards and gun laws in the country.

Now we want to be in charge of our own internet requirements.

CA State Senator Scott Wiener just introduced SB 822 – the most comprehensive state-level net neutrality bill in the country. Although other states are working on their own bills, this is the first one that includes ALL of the net neutrality protections that the GOP-dominated Federal Communications Commission (FCC) stripped away from us.

In fact, it’s even stronger than the recently repealed rules.

Tuesday 2/27 – #OneMoreVote – Internet-wide day of action

The FCC has started the countdown

On December 14th, 2017 the GOP-majority Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted to reverse 2015 regulations established to protect the net neutrality that allows all users have equal access to all internet content. It also prevents internet service providers (ISPs) from  charging extra for high-speed access to specific websites or blocking access to certain sites altogether. 83% of the American people and 75% of Republicans support net neutrality. 

The net neutrality repeal plan has finally been published in the Federal Register last Thursday, but that doesn’t mean net neutrality is officially dead—in fact, as open internet defenders quickly observed in response to the news, the fight to save the web from the Republican-controlled FCC is just beginning. If Pai’s rule is kept in place, net neutrality protections will begin to unravel April 23.

#1 – DACA

Their time is running out.
The CR budget running out tomorrow night and Congress’ willingness to forge a bipartisan DACA bill. However, the president remains a moving target and now insists that he’d love a government shutdown if an immigration deal does not “get rid of these loopholes where killers are allowed to come into our country”.  Of course, actual research shows the opposite. Let’s tell our MoCs that we expect them to vote for and put forward a clean DACA bill.

Thursday 1/11 – The FCC, Mueller and the Earth…

We’re cancelling our newsletter call on Net Neutrality.

Both our Senators,  Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris are part of the 40 senators that signed Senator Markey’s Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval to overturn FCC vote to end net neutrality. 30 members were required to send it to the floor for a vote. So this Tuesday, December 12th, “Break the Internet” on your site, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, LinkedIn, reddit, Tumblr, Youtube or in whatever wild creative way you can to get your audience to contact Congress. However, our local event has been CANCELLED due to fire conditions, but we can still do our part with these effective actions…
