Mon 10/14: Two quick actions to get things started for the week…

Action #1 – It’s do-it-ourselves democracy time again! Reach out to other voters to make this impeachment happen… You can help!

Indivisible National has a plan to improve our prospects of a fair trial in the Senate, similar to the one that helped us save the ACA.  They’ve set up a hubdialer to enable us to call other voters in key states with GOP Senators. We can talk to them about letting their senators know that they expect a fair trial in the Senate and then, even better,  we can connect them directly to their senators’ offices. The hubdialer should make this really easy. All you need is a phone and computer or tablet. You can sign up for one or more shifts here.

Read Indivisible’s guide here and help reach and mobilize constituents across the country. Sign up now and they’ll send you everything you need to start calling into target states and connecting voters directly to their senators!

Action #2 – Fortune Magazine’s “Most Powerful Women” Summit should not be celebrating power used for evil. Ask them to “rethink” Kirstjen Nielsen.

Sat 10/12: The public turns. The time to add pressure to the system is NOW! Take your place at the impeachment rally on SUNDAY!

Action  – If you still believe in this experiment in democracy called “America”, come, join us and roar!

We need to show Congress that there is broad resistance to Trump’s crimes. Join us at the Ventura County Government Center (corner of Victoria and Telephone) with your best signs and American flags for a peaceful rally from 1 pm- 3pm, tomorrow – Sunday, October 13th. (Facebook event here.) Bring great signs, American flags, Halloween costumes or whatever, because:

If we don’t stand up against a corrupt ruler who would use both a democracy struggling for its existence against Russia and a Communist super-power to ensure his own reelection, who will?

If we don’t stand up for the rights of whistleblowers to safely call out abuses of those in power, who will? (We’re waiting for our big bag-o-whistles to arrive! )

And if we don’t call out amoral GOP collaborators and demand that they relocate their “morals” and dedication to American values, who will?

Wed. – Sun 10/13: The Governor’s deadline to sign laws is THIS SUNDAY! (4) HUGE actions! – UPDATED

Action #1 – UPDATE! Ask the Governor to sign AB 342 – “No New Oil Leases Act.” Oil pumps coming to a neighborhood near you!

Update 10/13/19:

  • AB 342 Public lands” leasing: oil and gas: prohibition APPROVED BY THE GOVERNOR.

On Friday, while we were tranfixed by the political soap opera which is now our presidency, the Trump administration announced it would make 725,000 acres in California’s central coast open to oil and gas lease sales, ending a five-year moratorium. The BLM, ignoring 400 public comments and scientific research to facilitate the administration’s “energy dominion” policy, is now putting both the land, wildlife and people in Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Merced, Monterey, San Benito, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Stanislaus Counties at increased risk of toxic pollution.

The BLM is also looking closer to home with a proposal to conduct new oil and gas development on 1.6 million acres of public land in an area which covers Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Tulare and Ventura counties, includes about 400,000 acres of public land and 1.2 million acres of federal mineral estate, according to the report.

Let’s make this as hard as possible. State lawmakers passed AB 342  to deter companies from drilling on federal land. The bill would prohibit the construction of new oil and gas infrastructure on state land if it is being built to support production of oil and natural gas upon protected federal lands and is sitting on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk since 9/12.

Action #2 – Stop being such babies, CA legislature. OVERRIDE NEWSOM’s veto of SB-1!

Action #2  – An earthquake is starting in the White House. Shake their phones off the hook.

According to the Hill, “President Trump privately told House Republicans that he is worried about the effect impeachment would have on his legacy, Axios reported Sunday. Trump said impeachment is a “bad thing to have on your resume” in a call with House Republicans…” Former Trump Organization VP Barbara Res predicted that he might resign or make a deal during the impeachment process, rather than face possible removal because he “does a lot to save face.” Give him no comfort or quarter in the People’s House. Call him there.

Wed. 10/2: Tick, tock, tick, tock

Action #1 – Your legislators are on recess…Talk to them about impeachment. Every day. And ask them to go back to D.C. now!

It’s time for people who think that President Donald Trump should be removed from office to get on the phone and tell their senators and representatives. Now is when it matters. And yes: That kind of direct contact really does make a difference.” – Jonathon Bernstein

Minimal Script for our representatives: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want to thank Rep. [___] for supporting the impeachment of President Donald Trump and to ask [him/her] to get back to D.C. early and keep the pressure on the inquiry.
(Check here to see if your representative is already on board.)

Action #2 – Tell your legislators its past time for Congress to take back their full powers and to start using “inherent” contempt” again.

Time to start jailing subpoena-dodgers! There’s going to be a lot of hearings on the way to impeachment and Trump is refusing to allow anyone who has ever worked with him to testify. “Inherent Contempt” is an original power of Congress and it allows them to jail or fine those who refuse to comply with lawful subpoenas. Read more here about “inherent contempt“.

Minimal script for all legislators: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Senator [___] to convey to all the heads of investigative committees that we are tired of watching officials of this corrupt administration refuse to obey lawful Congressional subpoenas. We want Congress to start using its power of “inherent contempt” again, to jail or substantially fine them.

Action #3 – Call the White House every day and ask for Trump’s resignation.

Tues 10/1: 45 years ago, we deposed a corrupt man who would be king. Now another has taken his place. The threat of “inherent contempt” helped end Nixon. Congress, you know what to do…

Action – Tell your legislators that you support the immediate return of “inherent contempt” to the subpoena process.

I think really the House needs to explore contracting for jail space. This is not going to be putting people up at the Willard Hotel, that they’ll be there with the common criminals, arrested, if they do not comply with the inherent power of Congress to subpoena records and to subpoena people to come in.” – Rep. Lloyd Doggett ((D) Ways and Means Committee)

We want Congress to start using its power of “inherent contempt” again, to jail or substantially fine them.
