Tues – Dec. 4: Update on the Ventura County Board of Supervisors meeting. It’s going to be a busy day…

There are two extremely important issues being addressed tomorrow at the Ventura County Board of Supervisors Meeting, at the Hall of Administration at 800 S. Victoria Ave.

Gun Shows at the Fairgrounds – 1:30 pm.

An addendum agenda has been added which includes an recommendation for the Board to request the Ventura Country Fairgrounds cease contracting for new gun shows at the request of Board member Steve Bennet.

His letter is here.

Rally & Press Conference for Sheriff – ICE collaboration – 2:30

The location is currently planned for the entrance of the County Administration building. Get there a little early. If it’s moved, there will be signs redirecting you. Continue reading “Tues – Dec. 4: Update on the Ventura County Board of Supervisors meeting. It’s going to be a busy day…”

Mon – 12/3: They stop our breath in wonder when we see them. When we hear them. Now it’s time to fight for them.

Action #1 – Support HR 2158/S/1263 – Atlantic Seismic Airgun Protection Act.

Marine animals are in danger from this destructive testing method. This bill amends the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act to prohibit oil-, gas-, and methane hydrate-related seismic activities in the North Atlantic, Mid-Atlantic, South Atlantic, and Straits of Florida planning areas of the outer Continental Shelf. It’s a good start.

Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] to askRep./Sen. [___] to cosponsor [Reps. – HR 2158 / Senators – S.1258] – “Atlantic Seismic Airgun Protection Act.”

Are they cosponsors already? Check here for reps and here for senators. (All of our people need to step up, Brownley and Carbajal, Feinstein and Harris.) Continue reading “Mon – 12/3: They stop our breath in wonder when we see them. When we hear them. Now it’s time to fight for them.”

Sun 12/2: Day of Tears – Not in our name. Rally and Actions.

Today, we take to the public square to remind our neighbors, that amongst the crush of holiday pre-sales to celebrate the birth of a refugee child some 2000 years ago,  grave injustices are happening to refugees at our own border right now.

And today we say…Not in our name.

Action #1 – Come to the rally!

2 pm – 4 pm, today, Sunday at the Ventura County Government Center, at the corner of Victoria Ave.and Telephone Rd. More information here.

Action #2 – Call your legislators to protect refugees

Fri – 11/30: Sign this petition to rename the street address of the Saudi Embassy “Jamal Khashoggi Way”.

“This is no eulogy, for that would confer a state of closure. Rather, this is a promise that his light will never fade, that his legacy will be preserved within us. Baba said it best: “Some depart to remain,” which rings true today. We feel blessed to have been raised with his moral compass, his respect for knowledge and truth, and his love.

– From the obituary by his daughters, Noha Khashoggi and Razan Jamal Khashoggi, – full text here.

Action – Make the Saudis remember him every time they say or write their embassy address.

Stand indivisible with journalists who tell the truth.

Sign the petition here.

Two of his friends, Michaell Werz and Gary Schmitt, started this petition to rename the street address of the Saudi Embassy (currently 601 New Hampshire Avenue in Washington DC) to Jamal Khashoggi Way as a daily reminder to Saudi officials that such behavior is totally unacceptable and as an expression of Washington’s unstinting support for freedom of the press. Specifically, the resolution requests that the east side of New Hanpshire Avenue, N.W., between F Street and Juarez Circle, be designated as Jamal Khashoggi Way, which only affects the embassy itself. (See map below.)

Thurs – 11/29: Vote postponed! Let’s use this unexpected gift wisely.

Update! Sen. Tim Scott says “NO”! Farr’s nomination is done (for now…)

Scott based his decision on a recently obtained 1991 Department of Justice memo , which delineated Farr’s involvement in “ballot security” postcard mailings that targeted minority voters in both the 1984 and 1990 campaigns of then-Sen. Jesse Helms, (R-NC). The memo contradicted Farr’s denial to Sen. Feinstein at his nomination hearing that he hadn’t consulted with the campaign in 1990 on this issue and detailed his primary coordination role in the 1984 “ballot security” postcard program designed to challenge black voters at the polls.

Trump would have to renominate Farr in 2019 for him to be considered again. However, Republicans will hold a 53-47 edge in the Senate beginning in January, so we may see this guy again…Go ahead and tell your GOP senators that we expect them to do better than this.

Just in!:

The vote was scheduled for noon today, but shortly after 11 a.m., it was moved to next week due to the absence of Sen. James Inhofe, an Oklahoma Republican. This indicates that Mitch McConnell has calculated that there is little or no margin for error.

Let’s give ol’ Mitch a holiday surprise! Stand indivisible with the NAACP, Repairers of the Breach, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Alliance for Justice, People for the American Way and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

Action – LIGHT UP GOP SENATORS’ PHONE LINES! Network with friends and family in GOP states to stop Thomas Farr’s nomination!

Wed – 11/28: Stand up for our basic civil rights! Contact your relatives in GOP states and make them call about this guy.

#1 – Evening Action – Make this call to YOUR FRIENDS & RELATIVES –  “NO” on Thomas Farr for US District Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Sunday Dec. 2nd: Mark your calendar! We will NOT be silently complicit to crimes against humanity.

On November 25, 2018, U.S. Border Agents fired tear gas and rubber bullets at a group of immigrants crossing into San Diego from Tijuana, Mexico, including young children. These policies are cruel and unjustified, and must be loudly rejected as the crimes against humanity that they were. The people who were fired upon are fleeing dangerous conditions and have the human and legal right to seek asylum in the U.S.

Join Families Belong Together, along with Indivisible Ventura and all of our friends, for a Sunday afternoon rally on Dec. 2nd, 2 pm – 4 pm, at the Ventura County Government Center, to say, “STOP THE TEARS.”

Bring American flags, signs and the spirit of your own family’s history of asylum-seeking refugees.

Share this link with your friends and family and ask them to join us.
