AL, AR, ID, KS, LA, NE, SC, TN, TX, WV… WTH is wrong with you?

If far-right Republicans get their way, over one million immigrants who came to this country as children could be deported, children who grew up here and who’ve been busy contributing to America using the education that’s already been invested in them.

Texas Attorney General Paxton and others are pressuring President Trump to end the immigration protections of DACA and TPS that millions rely on the live, work, and study here.

The majority of Americans don’t want to see young immigrants deported. Not only is it gratuitously cruel to innocent people, but it will cost our country $460 billion over the next 10 years. That’s a lot of golf vacations with Secret Service overtime for our President!

Please speak out for our immigrant youth. If you have relatives or friends in the objecting states, please ask them to call their legislators too.

Ask your Senators to co-sponsor the bipartisan Durbin-Graham “DREAM Act” (S. 1615)
if they haven’t already. Check here. For Californians, use this script. You can call or email thanks.

Script: I’m calling/emailing to thank Senator (Feinstein/Harris) for co-sponsoring the bipartisan Durbin-Graham “DREAM Act” (S. 1615) to create a legislative fix to the predicament of these young Americans, and take their future out of Trump’s hands.

“Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny” (REINS) Act – Dumb Acronym, profoundly bad law.

Minimum Script: I’m  from zip code [___]  and I’m calling to ask Senator [Feinstein /Harris] to oppose S.21, the REINS Act.

More if you want it: “It will politicize the regulatory process and virtually guarantee no new federal regulations will ever be implemented.”

Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

10-minute Fun-Pak of Voting & Equal Rights Actions. Get ready for the March!

Women line up to vote for the first time in New York after the passage of the 19th Amendment, New York, New York, 1920.

On Saturday 8/26, join in the Indivisible March on Los Angeles, both to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote, and to show that we’re willing to stand up to “the most openly misogynist, regressive, bigoted, corrupt and dangerous administration in United States history” as well.

So today, we thought we’d put together some quick actions in honor of equal rights and voting. If you don’t have your phone optimized for fast calling yet, do that first.

We recommend that you CALL legislators that haven’t supported a bill yet and EMAIL to thank those who have. “Thank you” emails are encouraging to our legislators without tying up phone lines needed for action calls.

Call or thank? We’ve put in our legislators in the examples below. Not sure whether or not yours has signed up to sponsor something? Go to Congress.gov. Type in the bill # in the search function, hit the “Co-sponsors” tab. Sorting by “Alphabetical – by name” makes finding them easy.

Representative/Senator Contacts are listed at the bottom of this post.

Action #1 – Extend the deadline of the ERA. (H.J.Res 53 / S.J.Res 5)

Monuments from the Jim Crow Era Must Go: Remove Statues Celebrating the Confederacy from the Capitol Building – Fri. 8/25

If you haven’t seen this video, it is the most powerful lesson we’ve ever seen about why these statues must go. Please share it with anyone who remains in confusion and/or denial about this issue. Like the Germans after WWII have already done, it’s time that we Americans learn to deal honestly with the truth of our history.

Minimal Script: I’m calling {Sen.[2 calls] (&) Rep [1 call]} to insist that statues honoring the Confederacy be removed from the National Capitol to the Smithsonian or some other appropriate repository. Fight to Make CA a Sanctuary State: Stop Trump’s Deportation Machine!

Minimal Script: Hi, I’m calling to ask {State Sen.[1 call] (&) Assembly [1 call]} to ask that she/he/they support SB 54, the California Values Act.

(Additional if you want to: CA should no longer comply with any “hold” requests to detain immigrants for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement or permit state and local agencies to use their facilities for immigration enforcement.)

State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson: SAC (916) 651-4019, SB (805) 965-0862, OX (805)988-1940

State Assemblymember Monique Limón: (CA-37): SAC (916) 319-2037, SB (805) 564-1649, VTA (805) 641-3700

Fight Hate Crime: Demand a DOJ Task Force to Address the Rise in Domestic Hate Crimes

Script: I am writing (https://www.justice.gov/doj/webform/your-message-department-justice ) to urge Attorney General Sessions to support Sens. Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawai‘i) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) request to create an interagency task force to address the tragic increase in domestic hate crimes.

The recent outburst of violent racism and domestic terrorist activity by white supremacist organizations and individuals in Charlottesville, Virginia, has made the senators’ call for action even more urgent.

Update on our National Monuments from Sierra Club’s Jim Hines – 8/22

Greetings Public Lands Activists:
There is a flurry of activity going on at the U.S. Dept of the Interior right now. In the next few days concluding on Thursday (August 24th) we will see Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke make a number of recommendations to the President of the United States regarding the status of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the American west (and one in Maine) as well as 5 marine national monuments in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
Most recommendations have been agreed upon, several more are still being discussed by the executive staff at Interior. According to the draft which was circulated among Interior executive staff last week it looks like we are going to lose around 12 national monuments (either completely eliminated or reduced in size).
We are in a epic struggle for the very heart of America, YOUR national parks, national monuments, national marine sanctuaries, national conservation areas, national wildlife refuges and national forests.

Tues 8/22 – Fight Extreme Right Wing Media – Part 1

Oppose the Merger of Sinclair Broadcasting and Tribune Media! – Call the FCC.

Minimal Script for FCC: I’m calling FCC Chairman Ajit Pai to protest the proposed merging of Sinclair Broadcasting and Tribune Media, which will take it beyond its legal cap of 39%. Don’t bend the rules for Sinclair!

(Additional if you want to: Preventing the unfairness of Sinclair Broadcasting sending it’s pro-Trump right-wing messaging out to 72% of the available audience is exactly why the rules were created in the first place.)

Contact FCC Chairman Ajit Pai: 202-418-1000

For more information on why this action is so important, go here:  Continue reading “Tues 8/22 – Fight Extreme Right Wing Media – Part 1”
