Someday, someone you’ve helped will be in a video like this…

…which they will proudly show their kids and grandkids and retell the story of how they became an American. As completely 100% an American as anybody else.

Ronald Reagan, in his surprising last speech as president, (watch it here) reminded his listeners that immigration is “the great life force of each generation of new Americans…”  (Quick timeline of the history of immigration here.)

Get trained to help!

We love to have bilingual people but English-only volunteers are also most welcome. Volunteers do not need to be citizens, nor adults. Interested teens make great volunteers! Tues 1/8: Can you sing? Can you clap and cheer? Here are some much better things to do tonight than watching an angry man lie on TV.

Action #1 – Can you sing? First rehearsal for the MLK Celebration Choir starts tonight!

Singers from the tri-counties (Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo) are welcome to join in the MLK Celebration Choir to perform at the amazing MLK Day celebration on Monday, Jan 21st!

There are three rehearsals, at the Bethel AME Church at 855 South “F” Street, Oxnard.
  • Tuesday (TONIGHT), 1/8, at 7 pm.
  • Saturday 1/12, at 11:00 am
  • Saturday, 1/19th at 11:00 am

Can’t hold a note but you still want to be inspired, to cheer, to sing, to clap?
Contribute to this historic, tightly choreographed and cool-as-hell 33-year-old multi-city event. Then go buy a ticket online here for $8.13 or $7 at the door.
  • Freedom March – Starts at 8 am at Plaza Park at Fifth and “C” Streets with speeches by our legislators!. Transport provided for those who can’t march.
  • Can’t get up that early? The Celebration Program starts at 9:00 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center.

Action #2 – Go to the Oxnard City Council tonight and cheer them on!

One thing we’ve all discovered after Trump was elected, was just how much a bunch of committed volunteers could accomplish. Last year, IV & friends ran a (3)-precinct polling place, citizenship fairs, voter registration drives and postcard campaigns. Looks like we were just warming up…

Sat. – 9/29: Democracy, one person at a time. Come join us tomorrow!

Action – Take a break from national turmoil this Sunday (9/30) and help people in our own backyard.

Register voters, help make new citizens, renew DACA forms, and write postcards to inform voters that they may need to re-register to vote in the next election.

Indivisible Ventura, along with local immigration lawyers, El Concilio, and members of Indivisible Conejo, Indivisible Ojai Valley, CLUE, SEIU and others, are putting on our first “Last-Sunday-of-the-Month” Citizenship Fair/DACA signup/Voter Registration/Postcard event at Oxnard College Community Marketplace from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm.

The dry view: Volunteers who are kind, infinitely patient and detail-oriented are needed to help fill out pages of government formwork. Speaking another language is a bonus, but not required.

What’s really happening: You sit across from another human being and help change their life.

Thurs. – 5/3: Immigration – Part 2 – Hands-on – Come volunteer for the Citizenship Fair and the DACA Renewal Clinic!

Saturday, May 12th  – Citizenship Fair – SHARE!

Volunteers and immigration lawyers will assist eligible applicants fill out the formidable N-400 forms at this FREE Citizenship Fair!

This is one of the most fulfilling volunteer opportunities we offer!

We help green card holders from all over fill out their N-400 forms. This is their last major paperwork hurdle before they take their verbal test and become citizens, and voters!

If you’ve never participated before and haven’t taken the training course, you’ll be paired with a more experienced partner. People with Spanish language skills are most appreciated, but not required. Please help turn green card holders into citizens and voters. Share this!

Get that N-400 form finished!

In America, green card holders of at least 5 years can apply for citizenship. Green card holders married to U.S. citizens can apply after 3 years.

On Saturday, volunteers and immigration lawyers will assist eligible applicants fill out the N-400 form at this free Citizenship Fair and answer questions. Applicants do not need to be from Ventura County! Just bring the items listed on the flyer to make the process faster.

N-400 Fee Waivers

El Concilio will be there to help applicants apply for need-based waivers to the N400 application fees. There are three categories:

  • Those who receive means-tested benefits such as Medi-Cal, SSI, Calfresh or similar (Bring cards)
  • Those who can demonstrate low-income (Bring tax statements)
  • Those who can demonstate financial hardship (Bring W2’s)

Action #2: Be part of the resistance network.
