  • Letters to the Editor:
    • (Simivalleyacorn) I am proud to give my full and enthusiastic support to Kareem Jubran for mayor of Simi Valley.
I had the privilege of serving as Principal of Royal High School when Kareem was a student. He was an outstanding member of his senior class— bright, respectful, involved, and clearly destined to make a difference in his community. It has been especially rewarding to see the leader he has become.
I later had the opportunity to work side by side with Kareem for six years on the Simi Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees. During those years, I saw firsthand his ability to listen, evaluate information, consider differing viewpoints, and make thoughtful, informed decisions. He doesn’t assume he has all the answers; he seeks input and listens to all sides before making a decision.
Kareem is a lifelong Simi Valley resident who attended SVUSD from kindergarten through 12th grade. He is a UCLA graduate with a graduate degree from USC and a successful engineering career, including serving as a lead engineer on major construction projects throughout Los Angeles. His professional experience has strengthened his ability to analyze complex issues, solve problems, and work effectively with diverse groups.
Just as important, Kareem genuinely cares about the people of Simi Valley. He has volunteered with various local organizations and has been actively involved in youth activities throughout our community.
His commitment to our young people demonstrates that he understands something very important: the decisions we make today help shape the Simi Valley our children and grandchildren will inherit.
I especially admire his efforts to bring our school district and city government together to make Simi Valley an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
      Bob LaBelle, Simi Valley
    • (simivalleyacorn.com) I have lived in Simi Valley since 1985. My children went through the Simi Valley school system. I have reviewed all the candidates running for office in my district in the upcoming elections. I believe they are all good and sincere people. However, in my view, the following are the best among the best.
Dr. Ryan Rosuck for school board, Area E: Rosuck holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and has already had a successful career as both a teacher and an administrator in Simi Valley. She is also a recipient of the Lew Roth Award. Her priorities include promoting safe environment for academic success, and creating opportunities for every student to excel. I was especially impressed to see her going door-to-door in the unbearable heat.
Kareem Jubran for mayor of Simi Valley: Kareem, an engineer with degrees from UCLA and USC, is a true product of Simi Valley. He grew up here and is now raising his family here. As an engineer, he has overseen large, complex, and high-risk healthcare and infrastructure construction projects. He has also served as president of the Simi Valley School Board and has been continuously elected as a School Board Trustee since 2018. His vision is to ensure that the dreams of every Simi Valley child remain within reach.
Sam Cohen for City Council, District 2: I have seen Sam in action as a Neighborhood Council board member and as its chair. He has a quick grasp of complex issues and, drawing on his engineering background, comes up with viable solutions.
His vision for Simi Valley includes safety (prevent dangerous power shutoffs, address deteriorating roads, minimize opportunities for crime); transparency (communication); and community (create more opportunities for young people and support programs that strengthen our community).

“I’m running because I’ve been a member of this community for the better half of my life and I believe that the relationships and skills I’ve developed would greatly benefit city. A different perspective is a marvelous tool to promote growth. My platform consists of three pillars: fire prevention, theatre enhancement, financial literacy. Wildfires too often sweep through Simi Valley and certain measures can be taken to reduce this threat.

A method which has seen an increase in popularity is utilizing goats to clear the brush. Key areas would be targeted, creating a barrier between the wildfires and structures. This method was successfully used only recently to protect the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. I’m proud to live in a community which recognizes the value of the arts. We have a beautiful theater, wonderful programs at all of our schools, and a people who engage with and support the arts.

Through my Broadway and theatre connections, I intend to enhance the existing programs and develop a New Works program. If there is one area of education that is generally lacking, it is financial literacy. Many choose to avoid it and suffer in the long run. I would develop an auxiliary program to provide students with the basics of finance as well as resources for further education. The residents of Simi Valley would benefit from my election from a heightened focus on the arts, a keen interest in fire prevention, and a sharp eye for fiscal responsibility as my ideas are implemented.”
