Action #1: Ask your senators to extend the Census count!
The Census Bureau requested an extension of time to complete the count because of difficulties posed by the pandemic. In response, the Trump administration announced that they would prematurely end it instead, deliberately causing an undercount the population, in violation of the Constitution.
From Rock the Vote: “The Census is all about the distribution of power and money from the federal government to our communities. Money that goes toward things like emergency services, school lunches, hospitals, schools, fire departments, and affordable housing. And power, which is determined by the number of congresspersons, state legislatures, and other elected officials representing your interests.”
Action – The primary is over in CA and the November election is closing in fast. There’s lots to do. Join in!
Whether Bernie or Biden emerge victorious from the Democratic convention, we must be united in refusing Trump another term of unconstrained greed, lawlessness and corruption. So, besides asking your social media circles to take the Indivisible Pledge, and calling your legislators every day, what can we do? A lot. For us visual learners, here are three months of graphic calendars featuring our repeating events, with downloadable links, if you want to post one on your refrigerator. (For single events and events not hosted by us, keep checking the “Events” page. If your organization is having an event we should list, please email link to email@example.com)
Swap Meet Justice began as a result of our voter registration efforts. We learned that the people passing us by were permanent legal residents who wanted to become citizens but were facing significant challenges in doing so. These included unaffordable attorney fees for help with the application process, and the impossibility of taking time off from work to meet with them.
Update 2/15/19: A federal court ruled in the ACLU’s favor and struck down the citizenship question, which hasn’t appeared on a full census for 70 years – but now, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the Trump administration’s appeal. Help power the fight against this corrupt Ministry of Fear.
