While our ethically-challenged president is mired in a mess of his own making, we are pushing forward. Here are four actions that will connect you more deeply with this great community.

Action #1: Saturday – 10/26: Join “Ventura Critical Mass” in their first “Solidarity Bide Ride” in Oxnard.
Critical Mass is an unorganized coincidence, a movement of bicycles in the streets, a monthly gathering to celebrate cycling and affirm the rights of cyclists in the streets. It is an idea and an event. It’s free. It is not a race. It’s just for fun. It happens when many cyclists meet in the same place, at the same time and decide to pedal the same route together for a while. The idea is for people to group together, making it safer for each other to ride bicycles through their streets. Saturday, October 26th. Meet at 1pm. The ride starts at 2pm. Action #2: Saturday – 10/26: Volunteer Orientation – Diversity Collective Ventura County.
12:00 noon to 1:00 pm: – Join us for this volunteer orientation at the Diversity Collective at 2471 Portola Road, Ventura! We will introduce you to all the volunteer opportunities here at the center and with the organization. Starting at 1:00 we will begin our monthly center volunteer event. We will be organizing our community closet project and storage areas. We will then have a rummage sale on Sunday the 27th to get rid of all the excess.
Left over excess will be donated to the ARC Foundation. You may attend just the orientation or both. More information at their Facebook event here.
Action #3: THIS SUNDAY- 9/29: Volunteer, help spread the word and/or donate to our local free citizenship fair – Swap Meet Justice!
8am-3pm, Oxnard College Community Market, 4000 S. Rose Ave., Oxnard 93033
What are we doing? We help our neighbors turn their green cards (permanent residency cards) into citizenship. We also help renew green card and DACA applications and sign up new voters. Come help!
Thinking about being a volunteer? You don’t have to be a lawyer. You don’t need to speak a foreign language, but that extra skill is appreciated. You don’t have to be a citizen and you don’t have to be over 18. Teen volunteers are great! Note: First-time volunteers MUST take a 1-hour training course at 8:30 am.

Action #4: Sunday, Oct. 27: “Telling the Truth About California Missions”
2:00-4:00 pm at the Ojai Library. Hosted by Showing Up for Racial Justice – SURJ Ventura County In case you missed the Ventura screening, you have another chance to see this in Ojai! Santa Ynez filmmaker Gary Robinson will screen “Telling the Truth About California Missions” at two locations in Ventura County in October. The film reveals truths about Junipero Serra, California’s historic missions, their treatment of Native Americans, and the lies, myths, and falsehood that glorified these institutions while denigrating the people for whom they were supposedly built. Gary is an independent film maker and author (Tribal Eye Productions) and he is a descendent of the Choctaw and Cherokee nations. Gary’s newest film, “Hearing the Truth about Historical Trauma,” will be available to view at both events, if time and interest allow. The event is free, with donations accepted. Extra credit!: Fill in a form to the Florida Bar to disbar Rep. Matt Gaetz for leading an illegal raid on the impeachment inquiry.
