Vote No on the Ridiculous Entitled Idiots Nullifying Safety (& good sense) “REINS” Act

(We corrected their title “Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny” Act) – The REINS Act is an underhanded attempt to hobble the regulatory agencies that keep us safe. It will put workers in danger, loosen pollution safeguards, relax consumer protections and destroy job opportunities in the clean energy economy. We issued a NO on REINS action two months ago for the House, but are repeating it because we suspect it will come up for a Senate vote soon.

Script: I am calling to ask you to vote NO on the REINS Act, S. 21. It would delay or shut down critical new health and safety protections, obstruct laws that Congress has already mandated and oversight of the public’s health and safety in favor of polluter profits.

Call Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

AND Senator Harris: DC (202) 224-3553, LA (213) 894-5000, SAC (916) 448-2787, Fresno (916) 448-2787, SF (415) 355-9041, SD (619) 239-3884

Thank You for Support of Independent Commission Email or Postcard

Sen. Feinstein is an original cosponsor of S.27, the Senate bill to establish an independent commission to investigate Russian interference in our election. Rep. Brownley is a cosponsor of the House version (HR 356). Thank them for their leadership on this critical issue, while urging them to keep the focus and pressure on the investigation.

Send an Email or Postcard:
Senator Feinstein (Rep. Brownley),
Thank you for standing up to demand an independent commission to investigate the Russian interference in our election. Even before the obvious partisanship of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devon Nunes’ derailing of his own investigation and the GOP-led Senate investigation wallowing to a standstill, you were out in front demanding that this issue was too important to be left in the hands of Trump’s party allies. Thank you for for continuing to call for a transparent and comprehensive 9/11 style investigation into what may be this generations’ Watergate.

We Lost Our First Healthcare Battle – Here’s How We Win the War: The 14 Congressmen we are “Dying” to Meet.

GAME ON! Update: We now have three die-ins scheduled – click in to join us!

We knew they had finally gotten all the support they needed when they announced they were bringing this monstrosity to a vote yesterday. In fact, they got 14 of the votes they needed from us, from California.  Now this circus of tragedies moves on to the Senate and we are lucky that our Senators, Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, are on our side (though we will be reminding them both that we are watching). But we’re a minority there too.

So now, what do we do about these 14 California congresspeople (see the list below) who cheerfully sold out women, older people, the sick, those with pre-existing conditions, Planned Parenthood and special needs kids to insurance company lobbyists, wealthy donors and a President who counts a “win” over a promise?

We fight them, of course!

This will be a personal fight. We will all be dealing with the fallout of what happened today.

This will be a moral fight. No one deserves to be bankrupted after a lifetime of work because insurance companies executives demand a higher profit margin. More importantly, no one deserves to die of a treatable condition in a first world country because they can’t afford care.

So we will fight them, in a variety of ways. Don’t worry, there are enough battlefields for everyone.

– We will make their lives miserable with media events such as die-ins.
– We will add to chanting crowds outside their Town Halls, if they ever dare to have one again.
– We will help their districts replace them with reasonable, responsible representatives. We’ll need people to help phone bank, and walk precincts.
– We’ll build bridges to people who voted for Trump because they believed his bogus healthcare promises.

This is going to involve time, people, and transportation.

What can you do to help?

Read this. This is a one strategy…
https://www.indivisibleguide.com/resource/die-in-planning-guide/

– Will you be a “Die-In” Captain and coordinate the organizational effort?
– Will you help drive people to other districts to provide more people power?
– Will you participate in peaceful demonstrations in these members’ districts?
– Will you commit to phone banking for their opposition?
– Will you commit to precinct walking for their opposition?
– Will you write letters to the Editor?
– Will you participate in a coordinated social media campaign?
– Keep up-to-date with your local Indivisible chapter. We will be publishing protest opportunities. Send them in if you see some before we do to indivisibleventura@gmail.com

Send in your name and what you are willing do, plus any additional great ideas to indivisibleventura@gmail.com.

Politics is a messy business. We’re not sure if this whole thing was stage-managed to help Trump get his “win”, or to divert our attention away from the EPA mess, the regulation fiddling or even the Russian fiasco.

But we’re taking them all on.

Welcome to the Resistance!

The 14 Congresspeople we are just “dying” to meet (and a note from Indivisible National about how this all works!): Continue reading “We Lost Our First Healthcare Battle – Here’s How We Win the War: The 14 Congressmen we are “Dying” to Meet.”

Daddy, tell us again what clean water from the tap was like… Tell the EPA!

We’ve had a great response to our call for EPA comments! Next we highlight the Clean Water Act. The new administration’s open comment period for EPA environmental regulation rollback is NOW.

A flood of written public comments is one of our best tactics for slowing the process down. Time to write instead of call!

As before, we are including some sample scripts to inspire you, but ask that you make your comments with your own words, and in your own voice. They are on the lookout for identical comments that appear to come from mass mailings.

Here’s a sample script/inspiration document that we at Indivisible have put together: https://tinyurl.com/epa-talking-points

Vote “NO” on Trumpcare 3.0. The Worst. Sequel. Ever.

This time it may actually happen. Republicans are feverishly trying to pass a new bill, which underfunds protections for people with pre-existing conditions, while letting states opt out of full insurance coverage. And without a CBO score, no one knows the extent of the devastation it will cause America’s health care. The vote is scheduled for tomorrow. Urge NO.

Script: I’m calling to ask her to vote NO on this ridiculous Trumpcare bill. It doesn’t even have a CBO report. This whole business smacks of desperation and carelessness with both our health and the economy.

We haven’t forgotten about you, Russia. We’re not going away and we want the scandal resolved! (2 of 2)

The Senate Intelligence Committee is stalling on investigating the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia, the House Intelligence Committee has imploded, and the White House is stonewalling requests for information about Mike Flynn. An independent non-partisan prosecutor and commission is long overdue, and Senator Harris is not yet on board.

Note: Feinstein/Brownley should be thanked and nudged, and Harris should be nudged.

Script: I’m calling to ask that Senator Harris insists on a non-partisan commission to investigate Russian meddling in our election and that it’s time for this to get started. We’re not going away and we want the scandal resolved.

Call Senator Harris: DC (202) 224-3553, LA (213) 894-5000, SAC (916) 448-2787, Fresno (916) 448-2787, SF (415) 355-9041, SD (619) 239-3884

Keep the Methane Waste Prevention Rule. No deregulation of emissions of this greenhouse gas! (1 of 2)

The House has passed a resolution to repeal the BLM’s methane waste prevention rule; it now heads to the Senate. The rule limits the amount of methane (a powerful greenhouse gas) that can be released on public lands by oil and gas drilling companies. This is just another effort by the GOP to de-regulate emissions and lay waste to the environment. Say “NO” to SJ Res 11.

Script: I’m calling to ask Senator (____) to say NO to the repeal of the BLM’s methane waste prevention rule. Destroying our environment to help the GOP’s corporate friends is unacceptable.

Call Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

Vote “NO” on the Financial Choice Act, HR 10. We’re not in the mood for another Great Recession!

Remember the 2008 financial crisis that nearly tanked the world economy? Congress doesn’t. They want to repeal key parts of Dodd-Frank, including the Volker Rule prohibiting banks from making those risky speculative investments that caused the mess. They also want to prevent the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from fining institutions for unfair lending practices.

Script: I’m calling to ask Congresswoman Brownley to vote NO on HR 10, the “Financial Choice Act”, the GOP-inspired repeal of the parts of the Dodd-Frank act that endanger our economy while making Trump and his friends rich.

Tell the EPA that you like the Clean Air Act. Don’t rollback 50 years of environment victories!

We have a brand new type of action this week, one that we’ve been working on behind the scenes for a while now. It will take place for the next two weeks, until May 15, and we hope for your fervent participation.

The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a request for comments about regulations. They expect the comments to focus on why regulations are bad for someone’s bottom line.

Let’s prove them wrong.

We’d like you to go to the EPA comment page, and voice your support for EPA regulations. We are providing some sample scripts to inspire you, but ask that you make your comments with your own words, and in your own voice. They are on the lookout for identical comments that appear to come from mass mailings.

To keep things as simple as possible, we’re going to ask you to comment on specific types of regulations throughout the next two weeks. We’ll start with the Clean Air Act, which is of critical importance to California, and will subsequently focus on clean water, pollutants, etc.

Tell the EPA that you like the Clean Air Act, and remind the EPA that throughout their nearly 50 years, they have had a lot of environmental victories.

Here’s a sample script/inspiration document that we at Indivisible have put together: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qGumuye1NZGY4AK13dabAbdfvQL9sO1vOpzChft1v8o/edit?usp=sharing

Vote No on the Working Families Flexibility Act – Don’t be fooled by the doublespeak name!

The Working Families Flexibility Act strips workers of overtime protections and erodes the 40 hour work week. It replaces overtime guarantees with so-called “comp” time, giving employers more flexibility and workers less. They can be denied access to comp time when they need it, and can’t refuse requests for long days without fear of being fired. Vote no on this power grab.

Script: I’m calling to ask (____) to vote NO on the Working Families Flexibility Act. The name is very deceptive, as the flexibility goes to employers only. Workers that depended on some overtime pay will no longer get it, along with losing control of their schedules.

Call all three Members of Congress
