Wed – 1/16: Trump’s relentless and corrupt extraction of OUR resources continues despite the shutdown.

Action – Call your legislators and the House Natural Resource Committee to shut this down.

Last Thursday, we published a shout-out from Jim Hines of the Los Padres Sierra Club describing calls he’d had with Dept. of Interior (DOI) staff that the shutdown was being used to mask mining drilling activity in our national parks, with staff ordered to continue issuing permits. Well, now Trump has ordered more staff back to work on offshore oil and gas projects and he also sneak-signed an executive order to allow logging to continue and expand in our national forests during the shutdown.

Minimum script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Committee [___] to demand that ALL OIL AND GAS-related activities on public land, (including drilling, permit processing, inspections, public meetings and regulatory documents) and ALL TIMBER OPERATIONS on public land be halted until the shutdown is completely lifted. Thurs – 1/10: The art of distraction…The administration is using the shutdown as cover for drilling in our national parks.

Is the Trump Administration using the suffering of government employees and contractors to hide oil company shenanigans?  Why yes… yes they are!

Action #1 – Call your legislators and the House Natural Resource Committee to shut this down.

Minimum script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Committee [___] to demand that ALL drilling permit processing, drilling rig setup and operations subject to BLM inspection, public meetings and regulatory comment pages be halted until the shutdown is completely lifted.

They are using the shutdown as cover.

From Jim Hines, of the Los Padres Sierra Club:  “I just got off the phone with several of the executive staff at the U.S. Dept of the Interior which oversees the National Park Service and other federal land management agencies. They tell me that the White House wants to keep America’s national parks closed and not staffed for as long as possible. The reason is that this will allow mining and oil drilling companies to set up their operations in our national parks without any national park service personnel oversight. How sad is this, using America’s national parks as a political game to get what the extraction industry both domestic and foreign companies to get what they want. @POTUS open and staff America’s national parks.” Continue reading “Thurs – 1/10: The art of distraction…The administration is using the shutdown as cover for drilling in our national parks.”

This is what this looked like nearer to home…Indivisible Conejo, Indivisible Ventura, Indivisible Ojai, Democratic clubs and others gathered together with Julia Brownley’s chief of staff, Lenny Young, to remind her what’s important to us and what we expect her to fight for: veterans’ care, universal healthcare, immigration reform, gun violence, and environmental protections, including pollution and climate change. What may have started as a mnemonic device to help “candidate Trump” remember  immigration, has morphed into President Trump’s obsessive and racist demands for a real but useless wall, while our country struggles through the third week of a government shutdown. Meanwhile, statistics prove that our greatest threat is not at our southern border, but from dangerous people entering the US through Canada and through our own airports, now staffed with fewer TSA agents, thanks to Trump. The shutdown is hurting our national security in other ways, endangering flight safety, cyber security, and critical weather information. This may be a very, very, very bad time to fly. Fri – 12/28: #TrumpsShutdown – “There’s nothing like doing things with other people’s money…”

Quote from Donald J. Trump.

#TrumpsShutdown will cost us billions…

trump promiseGovernment shutdowns hurt people, causing financial disruption for government employees and financial disaster for contract workers. They are also expensive for the rest of us. The shutdown of 2013 was estimated to cost taxpayers more than $2.5 billion. In 2017, analysts projected a government shutdown would cost the U.S. economy $6.5 billion per week. Add that into the $210 million already spent on Trump’s pre-election troops-at-the-border photo-op, and you get a picture of the taxpayer dollars wasted on his ineffective, immoral and environmentally disastrous fever-dream of a border wall.

Memory Lane: For those who think this country should be run like a business, Trump filed for 6 bankrupcies, destroying employee retirement funds and small businesses. “It’s called OPM. I do it all the time in business. It’s called other people’s money. There’s nothing like doing things with other people’s money because it takes the risk — you get a good chunk out of it and it takes the risk.” Continue reading “Fri – 12/28: #TrumpsShutdown – “There’s nothing like doing things with other people’s money…””

Monday #TrumpShutdown – 3 actions!

In 2013, Trump laid the blame for any government shutdown directly on the president. Hmmm… not so much now..

Brighten the President’s morning by leaving him a personal message!

In case you haven’t seen or heard this…

Call him or leave a written message! Here’s a starter script to get you going…

Good morning, President Trump!

You have an amazing opportunity to avoid being remembered in history books as the President who inflicted the greatest moral and economic wound of the 21st century by expelling nearly 800,000 productive people from America, the only home they’ve ever known.

It’s too late to change the history that DACA, CHIP, the Federally Qualified Health Centers and the Puerto Rico recovery effort were placed behind destroying our health care and personally enriching yourself with tax cuts when the clock ran out.

However, you can still do the right thing now. Be brave.

If you can’t leave a message, write a message here:  https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/

Tell the Democrats to be strong.
