(From Indivisible Ventura…If you haven’t made these calls yet, please do so. Thanks!)

Join us on this nationwide day of action to show our elected officials that we will not passively stand by while immigration officers tear children from the arms of their parents. The cruelty and abuse these children suffer cannot, and will not, be tolerated.

Families Belong Together opposes the cruel, inhumane and unjustified separation of children from their parents along the U.S. border with Mexico and at other ports of entry into the U.S. We protest the conditions in which these children are kept. We protest the irreversible trauma that has already been perpetrated on these children and their parents for the crime of seeking a better life.

NO on the Heartbeat Protection Act (HR 490)

Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] to ask Rep. [___] to vote NO on HR 490 “Heartbeat Protection Act of 2017.”
More script if you want it: This Act would criminalize doctors who perform abortions after the 6th week, subjecting them to a fine and up to 5 years imprisonment, with no exceptions except to save the life of the mother, not even for incest or rape. Like the majority of Americans,  I support legal, accessible and safe abortions.

Rep. Julia Brownley: (CA-26): DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779

Hey, “Middle-Class”. How much is this supposed tax break worth to you?

The swamp monsters have given us some idea of how much “extra” we can expect back from their grand theft budget/tax scheme.

Calendar blank - 10.15 filler 1

In return for these generous terms, and for giving the mega-wealthy tax breaks of between $150,000-$800,000, we agree to allow the GOP to decimate our social and medical safety net.

Um… wait a minute, NO and NO!

Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code]  to ask Sen.[___] to vigorously oppose the deep federal spending cuts in the 2018 Budget Resolution which are taken from Medicare and Medicaid.

More Script if you want it: Low-income and elderly Americans should not have to give up their access to health care in order to fund tax breaks for the wealthy.

Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

So much for the entertainment portion of our post…back to business.

We’ve tried to compile all the best ways to communicate with legislators that this is a really bad idea…If you know of a method we’ve missed, please send it in.

Step 1 – Put your own oxygen mask on first!

I’ve noted that I’m getting through easily on their lines! We must call our BLUE senators so they have big call tallies to show their RED state colleagues!

Minimal Script: Hi. I’m from [ZIP] calling to ask Senators [___] to oppose the Cassidy-Graham ACA repeal plan. Congress needs to improve the Affordable Care Act, not repeal it and leave millions of people without options. Thanks!

Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

Save Kids from Being Deported “Just Because”! – 9/23

I’m calling to urge Senator (Feinstein and Harris) to vote no on HR 3697, which will grant broad powers to the Department of Homeland Security to designate and deport immigrant youth as gang-affiliated, with little judicial review or due process. This expansion of DHS power will promote racial profiling and infringe on basic, guaranteed Constitutional protections.

DACA resources – Updated 9/11

(Updated 9/14)

Free Help with DACA paperwork – Pass this on!

Ventura attorney Vanessa Frank, a specialist in immigration law and CLUE’s immediate past chair, is offering free assistance with the application process through September 29th for any eligible DACA holder who contacts her office at 143 Figueroa St, Ventura, (805) 641-9300.

Any work permit expiring between now and March 5th needs to be renewed no later than October 5th to maintain the applicant’s limited status of protection from deportation. Some application funds are already available through a generous anonymous donor; those funds will support 20 applicants.  With an estimated 7,000 DACA-eligible immigrants in Ventura County, the demand for renewal will surely outstrip currently available funds.

Update on the “free” filing fees. We need more donors!

A fee of $495 must accompany each application for DACA renewal.  CLUE-Ventura County is collecting donations to help defray the cost of renewal applications.  Funds must be received by September 21st and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please donate by September 21st via PayPal or credit card at www.cluevc.org, or mail a check payable to CLUE-VC to PO Box 3066, Ventura, CA 93006.  100% of donations received now through September 21st will be used for DACA renewals.
