Today, we need comments on two almost identical rules regarding some our smallest, yet most essential agricultural benefactors. It will take you about 5 minutes to read this and another 5 minutes to write something.

(These “Rules” are where legislators, who should be packing up their desks, together with their pet lobbyists, push through legislation that is too shady, dangerous and/or un-American to withstand the scrutiny and cameras they would encounter on the floor of Congress. This is where lawmaking, money and influence meet, hoping we don’t notice.)

Tues – 11/13: The legacy of the GOP – making endangered animals extinct. – CALL THIS MORNING!

Action – They are voting to exterminate the endangered gray wolf today in the House. Call your representative this morning!

Kitty Block, acting president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, issued the following statement: “Some members of Congress and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are moving to remove federal protections from wildlife threatened with extinction. This is shameful pandering to a vocal minority of special interests and an affront to American taxpayers who have supported and underwritten decades of efforts restoring these species. The duty of the federal government is to protect threatened and endangered species, not to pander to trophy hunters and predator-control agents.”

Mon 11/12: No one is above the law…the sequel.

Action #1 – Tell your legislators that we want these bills (HR 3771 & 3654/S 1741 & 1735) to protect Mueller pushed to the finish line.

These bills all state that an Attorney General overseeing a special counsel either has to be confirmed by the Senate, or by the most senior confirmed member below them if they recuse themselves. Also that the special counsel can only be removed for good cause, (which is NOT that Trump is terrified of them) and that the Special Counsel can file an action for judicial review.

Mon – 11/12: Keep your damn pants on, Mr. President. The election’s not over ’til it’s over.

For a little perspective, votes were still being counted A MONTH after Trump’s election to office in 2016. It was during this time that Hillary Clinton’s popular vote lead grew to 2.8 million nationwide, which rankled Trump so badly that he created, in connection with Kris Kobach and V.P. Pence, the money-wasting, gaslighting Election Integrity Commission to chase down the illegal voters of their darkest dreams. 19 actual fraudulent votes were eventually found by the DOJ. Over the entire country.

This all aside, we still have work to do.

Action #1 – Volunteer to make this Senate seat blue.

Mike Espy is running against Senator Cindy (“If he invited me to a public hanging, I’d be on the front row”) Hyde-Smith, an appointee who replaced GOP Senator Thad Cochran earlier this year and who has voted with Trump 100% of her short time in the Senate. In 1986, Espy became the first African-American from Mississippi elected to Congress since Reconstruction. In 1993, he became Secretary of Agriculture in the Clinton Administration. Hmmm…a lame-duck government until Jan. 3, leaving our country without meaningful congressional oversight for the next 60 days and loud rumors from various sources that Donald Trump Jr. will be indicted before the end of the year by the Mueller investigation…

Tonight – Candlelight Vigil for Victims of Hate.

This has been a hellish week in America…

A white supremacist Trump fan sent bombs to Democratic political leaders, donors, and CNN; black people were murdered at a grocery store after the domestic terrorist was locked out of the predominantly black church he was targeting; and a rabid anti-semite, inflamed with conspiracy theories, attacked a synagogue, killing 11 in the deadliest targeting of the Jewish community in American history. The administration is preparing to erase the existence of transgender people and troops are gathering at our borders to stop people who are coming to plead for their lives. And now, our president appears ready to create a class of stateless citizens, an act similar to one that preceded the worst atrocities of the Holocaust.

Martin Luther King said that “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
