Friday 4/20 – Come join us.
Today is the 19th anniversary of the attack on Columbine High School.
Come stand in the place of the 12 kids and the teacher who died at Columbine on this day in 1999. Those students would have been adults now. Maybe with kids of their own. Come and give voice to the resolve of the nation to end gun violence.
We will be meeting at 10:00-12:00 in front of the Ventura County Government Center, in coordination with school walk-outs and rallies taking place nationally on April 20, 2018, the anniversary of the Columbine shootings.
We ask that you dress in BLACK to show our united support for the end of GUN VIOLENCE. We want to make a visual statement to those passing by the historic import of what happened that day and how it still effects us.
We’re providing the signs — so just bring yourself and your friends. We will ALSO give you a strip of ORANGE cloth to be worn as an armband or a headband. (We encourage you to wear the orange band all day long.)

3/14 – Standing with the students in solidarity….in the rain.
Today’s post is a mashup between our unexpectedly damp anti-gun violence protest on March 14th and a great memory of another protest in the rain from 1963.

In 1963, a group of women protested (in the rain) in front of the Kennedy White House. They were there on behalf of Women Strike for Peace – an antinuclear organization that began when the founder got fed up and started a telephone tree to rally fellow mothers against nuclear testing.

This is an nation-wide event planned as a rapid response protest in the event that Donald Trump fires special counsel Robert Mueller. Please note that the listed date is a placeholder and will be updated to be within 24 hours of the firing, should it occur.

Dear Grassroots & Democratic Friends,
There is widespread concern that Robert Mueller will be fired — an attempt by Trump to stop the investigation into his ties to Russian oligarchs, his financial entanglements, and conspiracy to help a foreign entity affect our democratic election.
We have organized a Rapid Response Flash protest that will occur in coordination with the national host of the event, MoveOn. (If you haven’t sign up yet, RSVP here. Too far away, check out local rallies here.) It is expected that Trump will fire chief investigator, Mueller, during the upcoming Christmas Recess when members of the House and Senate will not be in Washington, DC to obstruct Trump’s desire to be rid of the legal investigation.
Therefore, we must stand ready to join together in protest. So many have signed up to attend, that it would be impossible for me to call each of you on the day that the firing occurs. To get a notification of the day and time of our assembly, you will need to to enroll to receive a text message by:
