Resolution: Trump’s Business Conflicts and Ties to Russia – Vote is tomorrow! Call Congresswoman Brownley

If Rep. Nadler’s bill is successful, the Department of Justice will have ‘to provide Congress with the basic information required to conduct an inquiry into President Trump and his associates” conflicts of interest, ethical violations—including the Emoluments Clause—and connections to the Russian government.’

For Congresswoman Julia Brownley: DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779

Jerrold Nadler’s resolution of inquiry into Trump’s business conflicts and ties to Russia. My zip code is [#####].”

Why it’s important: On February 9, 2017, Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) took the extraordinary step of filing a “resolution of inquiry” in the U.S. House that could force a House investigation into Donald Trump’s financial conflicts of interest and ties to the Russian government.

Media reports have called Rep. Nadler’s action the “most aggressive move” yet by Democrats.

No on Ryan Zinke for Interior Secretary: Call Senators Feinstein & Harris

Ryan Zinke refused to commit to a limited approach to allowing the excavation of coal and gas on federal lands and has opposed endangered species protections.

For Senators Feinstein and Harris – Call today and tomorrow (both): (DC switchboard (202) 224-3121, other #’s below.)

Script: Hi. My name is (______) and I’m a constituent from (city, zip.) I calling to urge Senator (Harris/Feinstein) to vote “NO’ on the confirmation of Ryan Zinke for Secretary of the Interior. We need principled leaders to stand up for regular Americans and protect the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the planet we share from polluters. Zinke refused in his nomination hearings to “…commit to a limited approach to allowing the excavation of coal, gas and minerals underground” on federal lands at the same time that Trump has said he intends to “to restore coal industry jobs by tapping federal resources. Zinke supports the Keystone XL Pipeline and has opposed endangered species protections for animals like the sage grouse.  Thank You.

No on Wilbur Ross for Commerce Secretary: Call Senators Feinstein & Harris

Ross’s Forbes profile describes him as a billionaire who made his fortune flipping bankrupt companies and there is concern about his financial ties to Russia.

For Senators Feinstein and Harris – Call today and tomorrow (both): (DC switchboard (202) 224-3121, other #’s below.)

Script: Hi my name is ____, I am a constituent of Sen. [______] and I am calling to urge you to vote “NO” on the confirmation of Wilbur Ross for Commerce Secretary.   I am concerned about Mr. Ross’ record of predatory business tactics which favor the corporation over the worker and his financial and political conflicts of interests. Mr. Ross has a long history of favoring the bottom line over that of the common man in many industries, from coal to banking. In light of current concerns about Donald Trump’s ties to Russia, Ross should not be confirmed as Commerce Secretary until he has addressed issues that surround his financial ties to Russia.  Thank you.

Today’s Action Call – Conflicts of Interest: Trump and Russia (Action 4 of 4)

Conflict of interests: But how did we get into this mess in the first place? Trump has entered office without divesting himself in any meaningful way of his worldwide business interests or divulging his tax returns. That he has substantial business ties with Russian investors is well known. From Vox, “His son, Donald Trump Jr. told the global trade publication eTurboNews that Russians were key investors in the Trump Organization’s assets. “And in terms of high-end product influx into the US, Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets; say in Dubai, and certainly with our project in SoHo and anywhere in New York,” Trump Jr. said in the interview. “We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.

There’s indeed a lot of money coming for new-builds and resale reflecting a trend in the Russian economy and, of course, the weak dollar versus the ruble.” (More to read here… http://time.com/4433880/donald-trump-ties-to-russia/)

Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Katherine Clark have introduced “The Presidential Conflicts of Interest Act of 2017” (S.65 (Senate), HR 371 (House)) which would required all Presidents and Vice-Presidents, including current ones, to divest themselves of all potential financial conflicts of interest, just as other federal officials must. They must also submit their recent tax returns to Congress and to the Office of Government Ethics. This bill has stalled in committee.

Call all three of your legislators and tell them you want this. Continue reading “Today’s Action Call – Conflicts of Interest: Trump and Russia (Action 4 of 4)”

Today’s Action Call – Sanctions: Trump and Russia (Action 3 of 4)

Sanctions: National Security Advisor Michael Flynn was removed over his conversations with Russian officials regarding removing the sanctions against them.  The bipartisan “Russia Sanctions Review Act of 2017” (S.341 (Senate), HR 1059 (House) prevents Trump’s administration from lifting sanctions without providing proof that Russia has stopped supporting acts to undermine the government of Ukraine and has stopped the cyber attacks against the US Government and citizens.
All three of your legislators get called on this.

Today’s Action Call – Julia Brownley: Trump and Russia (Action 2 of 4)

Special Prosecuter: Even if Sessions bows out gracefully, we can expect the GOP to remain resistant and untrustworthy in investigating one of their own. Therefore, 198 House Democrats and one House Republican are co-sponsoring HR 356, the “Protecting Our Democracy Act” to establish an independent, 12-member commission to fully examine Russian interference in the 2016 election.

You’ll be calling Ms. Brownley on this. Continue reading “Today’s Action Call – Julia Brownley: Trump and Russia (Action 2 of 4)”
