Stop Poisoning us, please.

Despite decades of research into the devastating effects of chlorpyrifos, a chemical routinely sprayed on crops like apples, oranges, strawberries, Pruitt’s EPA gave the green light to its continued use on our food. There is no scientific rationale for this decision only an attempt to boost Dow chemical’s bottom line. The EPA comment page on this issue closes June 5.

Facebook Live Event. You’re invited.

Join us tonight at 8:30 PM ET for a Facebook Live for the latest on recess and saving health care. We’ll be joined by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities to answer your questions in real-time on TrumpCare, the CBO score, Russia, and how you can hold your members of Congress accountable this recess.

Our recess priorities: The Trump administration is forcing our movement to play defense on multiple fronts. The fate of the ACA is now in the hands of a Republican-led Senate that has tried to repeal it for 7 years. The connections between the Trump camp and Russian officials are becoming clearer. Trump’s draconian budget proposal is out and on June 7, the House GOP will vote on a bill that would gut protections for families from big Wall Street banks.

As former congressional staffers, here are the things we think you and your local Indivisible team should be prioritizing this Memorial Day recess.

Jeff Session’s out of control. Time to stop his racist mass imprisonment plan!

Support the bipartisan Justice Safety Valve Act (HR 2435/S1127)

AG Jeff Sessions is advocating institutional racism with mandatory minimum sentencing, which conservatives and liberals alike see as destructive to generations of minorities, impacting their future ability to vote, rent an apartment, or get a job. Whites use drugs equally but minorities are 4-5 times more likely to be convicted, which destroys their lives, families and communities.

Script:  I’m calling today to urge (___) to support the bipartisan Justice Safety Valve Act.  Please resist Attorney General Jeff Session’s attempt to double down on mass incarceration.

Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

This stops with our kids. Don’t let Trump & DeVos destroy our public schools!

Trump’s budget will deal a heavy blow to public education. It will strip $10.6 billion from federal education initiatives (including enrichment and afterschool programs for poorer school districts, physical education, anti-bullying campaigns and advanced coursework), and funnel a big hunk of our money into private, religious and charter schools.

Script:  I’m calling (___) today to urge support for public education in the United States.  Trump’s budget strips critical funds from our public schools, which will negatively impact a whole generation of children.

Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

Urge YES on the Preserving Data in Government Act (S.960)

Data is disappearing from various Federal websites that we paid for and that researchers, scientists, economists, entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens rely on. This bill would stop this. As co-sponsor Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) said,  “Once data has been published and made available to the public, it should remain available to the public.”  Let’s see that this bill passes.

Script: Hi I’m calling to urge Senator … to support the Preserving Data in Government Act (S.960). This is a bill that would protect public data on Federal websites. Data that we paid for and that we have a right to access.

Call Pruitt and demand that he stop removing vital scientific information from the EPA website and stop replacing EPA scientists on the Board of Scientific Counselors with industry representatives. Demand that the EPA develop evidence-based policies that protect the environment and serve the public good, including the regulation of fossil fuels.

Script: Hello, my name is *** I’m calling to demand that Director Pruitt stop removing vital scientific information from the EPA website and that he stop replacing scientists on the Board of Scientific Counselors with industry representatives.
