We’re not buying it…

The GOP is proposing a $72 billion dollar tax cut, to be dispersed using their their perennial “Trickle-down-never-has-worked-never-gonna” scam.

The GOP, simultaneously in-the-majority and struck with their proximity to our pocketbooks, has, once again,  re-discovered “supply-side” economics, aka ” the trickle-down theory”.  Years ago, people called this concept by the truthier title of  “the-horse-and-sparrow” , as in, ‘If you feed the horse enough oats, some will pass through to the road for the sparrows.'” Interestingly, the authors of this nonsense never seem to “re-discover” or care that this tax scam has never been successful, except for creating, over and over, the steaming piles of offal for us to clean up.

Direct-Invest-in-Us plan

What would happen if we just didn’t give the $72 billion dollars to our wealthiest people and corporations, including the 35% that goes to foreign investors? What if that $72 billion dollars didn’t go to  tax shelters in the Bahamas, wealthy companies cutting employment  or those hiring foreign workers?

What if we went out on a limb and say that “We the People” are America’s greatest asset.

What would happen if we invested that $72 billion directly into us for 2018?

  • We could invest in our health. This money could pay the health insurance premiums for more than 12.6 million adults. We could take the high-risk people out of the pool, lowering premiums for everyone else, instead of the 10% premium increase that Trump has recently handed us, the first of many. We could keep 13 million people from losing their insurance and prevent the $25 million dollar cut to Medicare, along with the resulting toll of bankruptcies, preventable complications and death.
  • We could invest in education. $72 billion could cover Pell grants for 12.3 million low-income and first generation college students, increasing their chances of higher paying work throughout their working lives, resulting in  higher contributions to our tax, Medicare and Social Security systems.
  • We could invest in jobs. We could create 689,000 jobs building and repairing our long-neglected infrastructure.

Ask for what we want! Every day. Over and over. Make sure your relative and friends in red states are doing it too.

It doesn’t matter if the crime occurs in a “health-care” bill or a “tax” bill.

Once again, the GOP is trying to kill the ACA by removing the mandate.

What they’re actually doing is killing Americans.

Removing access to health insurance for 13,000,000 Americans will cause people to die unnecessarily in a country which is touted as having the “best health care in the world”.

If the mere transfer of money from the poor and middle-class to the wealthiest of our society is corrupt and immoral, then the actual killing of us is should be described as criminal.

Ask for what we want! Every day. Over and over.

Minimal Script for a Democratic Legislator:

I’m calling from [zip code] and I want to thank Senator [Harris/Feinstein] for opposing the Senate GOP tax bill.

We never asked for a tax cut. Are you ready to write things down?

What we want is accessible, comprehensive and affordable health care, protection of our social safety nets like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, investment in our schools and public infrastructure, affordable higher education for all, and protection of our air, water and natural resources. (Add on anything thing else we missed!)

Minimal Script for a Republican Legislator:

I’m calling from [zip code] and I want to tell Sen. [___]  that we never asked for a tax cut.

Please tell your boss that if he/she/they  [___] vote for this fraudulent rich-get-richer scheme over our best interests, he/she/they will need a career backup plan after the next election.

Corporations can’t even be bothered to maintain the charade with a hand in the air.

Update! The House just passed their version. Swamp the senators with calls! Yes, call the Democrats too!

This is what’s not going to happen…

“President Trump’s top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, looked out from the stage at a sea of CEOs and top executives in the audience Tuesday for the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council meeting. As Cohn sat comfortably onstage, a Journal editor asked the crowd to raise their hands if their company plans to invest more if the tax reform bill passes.

Very few hands went up.

Cohn looked surprised. “Why aren’t the other hands up?” he said.”

The business investment that Trump and his band of merry men say that their tax plan would unleash — new factories, more equipment and more jobs – ISN’T GOING TO HAPPEN.

This is what will happen.

What will happen is that the tax deficit will require them to start cutting programs that we and our families use. Like Medicare. Like Medicaid. Paul Ryan would like to put Social Security on the block. We will see higher insurance bills and 13,000,000 of us will lose our insurance. More people will file for medical bankruptcies and lose their homes.

This is all very real.

Trickle-down isn’t.

Ask for what we want! Every day. Over and over.

The separation of Church and State is what makes America special. This is the kind of wall we want.

Although some darkly mutter that that our secularity of our government was an atheist plot, it was actually a profoundly religious Baptist minister, Roger Williams, who gave us the gift of a separate church and state 400 years ago.

Here’s the short form as to why we’re not actually a religious theocracy right now.

In 1630, John Winthrop led 1,000 men, women and children to start the Massachusetts Bay Colony. These Puritans left England because they were disgusted with what they saw as corruption in the Church of England and the tyranny of the crown. Finally given complete freedom to create the simple worship and personal intimacy with God that they long desired, they proceeded remove religious freedom from others. “Puritan ministers were compelled—upon pain of imprisonment—to wear the surplice and use the Book of Common Prayer, and their congregants were compelled to participate in what they regarded as rote worship.”

In other words, having risked their lives to escape an oppressive religious regime, they immediately started to set up one of their own. Humans!

However, Roger Williams, actually paying attention to history, felt that they should use this chance in a new world to do better than their forebears in protecting religion from the games of politicians.

“Williams believed that preventing error in religion was impossible, for it required people to interpret God’s law, and people would inevitably err. He therefore concluded that government must remove itself from anything that touched upon human beings’ relationship with God. A society built on the principles Massachusetts espoused would lead at best to hypocrisy, because forced worship, he wrote, “stincks in God’s nostrils.” At worst, such a society would lead to a foul corruption—not of the state, which was already corrupt, but of the church.” Continue reading “The separation of Church and State is what makes America special. Upspeakable immorality, insatiable greed.

Animosity towards the poor and unbridled greed from the wealthy and powerful isn’t new. There were discussions a couple of thousand years ago. (Yep, we’re going there!)

King James Bible
“And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” (Matthew 19:24)

And here we are. 2017 and poor and fragile citizens will actually die as a result of this #TrumpTaxScam. This goes against the morality of all good people, religious and not.

The GOP tax bill will trigger automatic cuts worth $136 billion from mandatory spending in 2018, including $25 billion in Medicare cuts. Other programs not protected by cut limitations will be wiped out.

The Senate’s removal of the ACA mandate from their tax scam will result in 13 million people losing their health insurance so that Congress can have back $338 billion to add to tax cut rates for businesses and wealthy individuals.

Fight back for all of us.

This is what real patriotism looks like…

“More than 400 American millionaires and billionaires are sending a letter to Congress this week urging Republican lawmakers not to cut their taxes.

The wealthy Americans, which include doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs and CEOs, say the GOP is making a mistake by reducing taxes on the richest families at a time when the the nation’s debt is high and inequality is back at the worst level since the 1920s.” (ChicagoTribune)

Extend the protections against domestic abusers. YES on S.1539.

Minimal Script for Supporting Senators: I’m calling from [zip code] to thank Senator [___] for co-sponsoring the “Protecting Domestic Violence and Stalking Victims Act of 2017” (S.1539).

More script if you want it: Just as a person who has been convicted of domestic abuse should not be able to legally buy a firearm, stalkers should also be prevented from having guns.

Minimal Script for Senators who are late to the game: I’m calling from [zip code] to ask Senator [___] to co-sponsor the “Protecting Domestic Violence and Stalking Victims Act of 2017” (S.1539). Research proves that this bill is necessary to protect lives of women and the general public.
More script if you’re feeling feisty: If the Senator is too busy to do the basic research on this, I’d be happy to send in some reputable source materials.

Are we playing a game of judicial limbo? How low will the GOP go to get judges?

Brett Talley can’t even answer an easy question, the one designed to root out nepotism and corruption.
Question #24 of the disclosure form asked nominees to “identify the family members or other persons … that are likely to present potential conflicts of interest.”
Like his wife…Ann Donaldson, who is the chief of staff to the White House counsel.

Conflict of interest for a federal judge? Oh, hell yes!

Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to ask Senator [____] to vote NO on all Trump’s extremist and unqualified judicial nominees , including Jeff Mateer, Brett Talley and Greg Katsas.

Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430
