The “You have got to be kidding me!!!” guy is up for a vote tomorrow. CALL!

This Wednesday, the Senate will be voting on the confirmation of Trump’s nominee William Wehrum, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Air and Radiation.  Mr. Wehrum is a petrochemical lawyer and climate denier. The nomination has angered environmentalists, given Wehrum’s history as a lawyer for industries he would soon be charged with regulating, including polluters who are actively suing the EPA. Watch this great video as Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley discovers “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”

CA Senator Harris also nails him on the California waiver issue.

Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to urge Sen. [___] vote NO on the latest unqualified nominee, William Wehrum, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Air and Radiation.

More script if you want it: This nominee cannot be trusted to protect public health and the environment. Additionally he will not commit to uphold California’s Green House Gas Waiver.

Support the Honest Ads Act. It’s a first step and the very least social media giants can do.

Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to ask –
Rep. [___]  to support the Honest Ads Act – H.R. 4077
Sen. [____] to support the Honest Ads Act – S. 1989

More script if you want it: Holding online political ads to the same standard as ads published through other media is a critical first step in safeguarding our democracy and preventing foreign interference in elections.

But that’s just a beginning. Add this: We would like the bill to be amended to include tough identification rules and cut off anonymous and semi-anonymous payment methods for advertisers. When the platforms are recognized as publishers, it should become impossible to broadcast content anonymously, without the author’s true, verified identity being known at least to the platforms themselves; it should also be impossible to buy an ad in the U.S. without a U.S. bank account. (Bloomberg). The law should be revisited regularly to keep up with new types of interference methods.

Corruption Alert – Keep the EPA’s “Science Advisory Board” Scientific. NO on HR 1431

Minimal script:  I am calling from [zip code] to ask Senator [___] to vote no on HR 1431, which would allow industry a voice on the EPA’s Scientific Advisory Board.

More script if you want it: This bill would empower lobbyists and let big money, not science, to shape environmental policy.

Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

Daylight cleans up a lot of things. Release the Steel Dossier Testimony.

Minimal Script: I am calling Senator Feinstein to vote YES on making public the 9+ hours of Senate Judiciary Committee testimony on the Steele dossier by Glenn Simpson of Fusion GPS.

More script info if you want it: “The dossier is at the center of the investigation into Russia’s hacking of our election. We have a right to know its sourcing and credibility.”

Update on our National Monuments from Sierra Club’s Jim Hines – Action Call 8/29

Greetings Friends:

In two weeks I will be on Capitol Hill in DC (third trip this year) to meet with our adversaries in congress who are supporting elimination of many of our national monuments, national parks, national conservation areas and national forests, YOUR national public lands.

I will also be meeting with members of the Trump Administration Dept. of the Interior staff. It is so important to meet with our adversaries on national public lands issues as they are in full control of the process in DC right now.

The Administration and its many allies in congress are now taking a two prong approach to attacking our national public lands.

1) by using the 2018 federal budget process to reduce funding for national public land units the Administration does not feel warrant protections, such as many national monuments, national forests and national conservation areas in the western U.S. and will instead open those lands up to oil and gas drilling, coal and uranium mining, logging and cattle grazing.

2) supporting congressional legislation such as the Public Lands Initiative (PLI) soon to be introduced into congress by congressman Rob Bishop (R-Utah) which would remove all protections for federal lands in the state of Utah. Similar legislation is being drafted for other states in the western U.S. who do not want the U.S. Government owning/managing national parks, national monuments, national conservation areas and national forests.

3) And on top of all of this will be upcoming actions by the President to reduce the size and eliminate protections of many national monuments and other national public land units as well as National Marine Sanctuaries.

We are in an epic battle to save some of the most spectacular landscapes and endangered ecosystems in the United States.
