What’s old is new again…!
Action: Tell your senators to vote “NO” on S.Res. 50.
The full title of the GOP’s S.Res.50 – “A resolution improving procedures for the consideration of nominations in the Senate.” is almost longer than the resolution itself, In the GOP’s haste to pack our courts, they want to truncate nomination deliberations from 30 hours to two. This is certainly more convenient for senators, but they get paid to protect us, so bring a cushion, snowflakes! The bill’s text doesn’t even bother to justify how rushing through inappropriate candidates for extremely powerful positions would be an improvement for us, the people.
Actually, after reading the short bios of the three nominees below, an actual improvement might be to expand hearings from 30 to 40 hours, – better to root out and expose the extremists, the ideologues, the unqualified and the incompetents that clog the GOP’s wish lists.
Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Sen. [___] to vote “NO” on S.Res. 50 and strenously object to this disintegration of our court system. I also want her to vote “NO” on nominees Collins, Bress and Lee as being inappropriate additions to our justice system. Continue reading “Mon 4/1: No, this is not a joke! The GOP wants to make fools into judges in two hours or less.”
Action # – Vote “NO” on “Not Qualified” judicial nominee Jonathan A. Kobes to the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
“Not Qualified”… How in a properly function democracy did this man make it to a floor vote of the full Senate? The American Bar association stated that he wasn’t qualified to be a judge. “Mr. Kobes has neither the requisite experience nor evidence of his ability to fulfill the scholarly writing required of a United States Circuit Court Judge…and was unable to provide sufficient writing samples of the caliber required to satisfy Committee members that he was capable of doing the work of a United States Circuit Court Judge.” Continue reading “Thurs – 12/6: Another wolf in a lawyer’s clothing…Vote “NO” for unqualified and extreme judicial nominee Kobes.”
Action #1 – Vote “Oh, God, NO” on David Porter for the Third Circuit
David Porter is so far outside the legal mainstream, much less the 21st century, that his own state blocked him from becoming a district judge. They were worried that he wouldn’t be able to fairly judge matters of civil rights, women’s reproductive rights, LGBTQ equality, environmental protection and workers’ rights. The basics. And so are we.
Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Sen. [___] to vote “NO” on the nomination of David Porter for a lifetime judgeship on the Third Circuit federal appeals court.

Well, Rachel, he’s baaaack. So, now it’s up to us to stop this guy again. Continue reading “Wed. – 8/15: Don’t give a gavel to David Porter.”
Despite his highly controversial record, and despite home-state Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) not returning a “blue-slip,” Michael Brennan was confirmed to the judiciary on a 49-46 vote.
Forgot exactly which horrible nominee Mr. Brennan was? Totally understandable. There are a lot of them now. Refresh your memory here.
Senator Chuck Grassley, (R-IA) Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, ignored Senate protocol for the second time and proceeded with Brennan’s nomination despite home-state objections. Which is so interesting, as he was such a strong supporter of blue slips just a few years ago, having used the blue-slip process to reject several nominees from President Obama. His views are immortalized in writing, of course. Here are some great resources to study about that other Senator Grassley of several years ago.

#1a – “NO” on Britt Grant for US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Britt Grant, who is on Trump’s Supreme Court shortlist in spite of having only served as a judge since last year, has been nominated for a lifelong spot on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
And that could be a very long time, as she’s just 40 years old.
But already, this hard-right Federalist Society member has a record of defending unconstitutional restrictions on the right to choose and undermining the Voting Rights Act, along with fighting collective bargaining for public sector workers. According to AJI, she “represents an advocacy position that is extreme,” in that she has sought to weaken rights of women, persons of color, LGBTQ Americans, and workers, as well as environmental protections. This record raises serious questions as to whether she will protect critical constitutional rights and legal protections for all persons.”
There shouldn’t be a question here.
Let’s make sure our senators know this is the sort of ultraconservative record we don’t need in our federal courts. Continue reading “Wed. 5/30 – Judiciary Day – Part 1 – Heinous nominees and proof that party matters when it comes to justice.”
Vote “NO” on Kyle Duncan TODAY! – Swamp your senators’ D.C. numbers!
Even if you’ve called on this guy before. Here is today’s schedule.
- The Senate will convene at 3:00 p.m.
- Following leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session and resume consideration of Executive Calendar #624, Stuart Kyle Duncan, of Louisiana, to be United States Circuit Court Judge for the Fifth Circuit.
- At 5:30 p.m., the Senate will VOTE on confirmation of Executive Calendar #624, Stuart Kyle Duncan, of Louisiana, to be United States Circuit Court Judge for the Fifth Circuit.
Kyle Duncan, a lawyer who has built a career around extreme positions against members of the LGBTQ community, has been nominated by Donald Trump for a lifetime appointment to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He has worked aggressively to eradicate LGBTQ rights, immigrant rights, reproductive rights, voting rights, and more. Read about Duncan at Lambda Legal. Let’s contact our Senators to let them know we oppose extremist nominee Kyle Duncan.
Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to ask Sen. [__] to oppose the nomination of Kyle Duncan to our federal courts.

#1. – The GOP is officially really nervous!
The House could have just voted for the Senate plan and they’d have been done. Instead they made the mistake of giving us more time to see what’s in this bill. More people are waking up to its essential immorality.
Over 650,000 calls are beginning to spook them…
Add yours! Every day this week. Even if your Representative or Senator is a Democrat.
Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to express my strong disapproval of H.R. 1, the disastrous Republican tax scam, and to ask that Rep. [___] vote against it when it comes out of the conference committee.
More script if you need it: This proposed tax scam must be stopped. The GOP is targeting welfare, Medicare and Medicaid spending to pay for their own faulty, deficit-producing tax scam OR [insert personal reason], or find your favorite reason here.
