Fri – 9/7: Latest in Kavanaugh Resistance actions! Like the ACA fight, we’re taking it to the end.

We’re going to keep updating this as new resistance actions come in…
Senators on the Judiciary Committee are likely to vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation on Sept. 20 with a vote by the full Senate the following week. Mitch McConnell wants him ready by the first day of court’s new term, Oct. 1.

Come on, kids. Let’s mess that up!

Action #1 – Read this article, watch this video and call your senators, Red or Blue, again and again, EVERY DAMN DAY, until this fight is done.

Read this: “The Nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court Feels Inevitable. But We Can Actually Stop Him.” (teenvogue)

Watch this:

No, they don’t get tired of hearing from you!

Minimal Script for senators: I’m calling from [zip code] and I’m urging Senator [___] to refuse to vote for any nominee for SCOTUS until regular order is restored and all of the candidate’s writings are released with time for examination.

Contact your Senator: Make calls faster here. It takes less than 6 minutes to call all these numbers and leave a short message.

Action #2 – Post and share your righteous rage through every form of media you own.

(from Chop Wood, Carry Water) “Talk about Kavanaugh, post about Kavanaugh, share news stories about Kavanaugh. This sounds so simple, but noise and chatter matter A LOT. It matters to the Senators who are supremely aware of their environment (especially on social media), it matters to the media who follow people’s interests, it matters to getting more people involved who follow their peers. Post clips of Cory and Kamala so everyone wants to be like Cory and Kamala because they are getting all the love.” Create your own videos to share, with help from Planned Parenthood, here.

Action #3 – Phone bank swing state voters with the national Indivisible.

Indivisible has shifts available for us to call constituents in Alaska, Maine, Indiana, West Virginia, and North Dakota, and ask that they urge their senators to oppose Kavanaugh’s nomination. Sign up to phone bank here and make sure that Kavanaugh does not get confirmed. The training webinar is on Wednesday, September 12 at 7pm EST.

Action #4 – Write letters to him. Copy your senators!

People, even full-grown adults, can change their minds when others share personal experiences, even hard-core forced-birthers like this man. Consider sharing your story (here are examples) with anti-choice people like Judge Kavanaugh, or legislators who should be working for you. Share your story through the Planned Parenthood website here.

Or if you don’t have an abortion story, try something adjacent, or just go back to the basic concept that an actual good guy wouldn’t accept this sideshow nomination. You’ve got a good letter to share, we’ll add it on for inspiration for others. (indivisibleventura@gmail.com)

Dear Judge Kavanaugh,

We love the fact that you coach girls’s basketball. Enjoy this time, as in what will seem like a heartbeat, they will become young women with complicated lives outside your purview. Not what most fathers want to think about, but statistically, many of them will be looking for safe and effective birth control options by the age of 17 (only 2% of Catholics actually use the rhythm method) and some might also become part of the one-in-four statistic of  those who seek a pregnancy termination in their lifetime. Because you live in Maryland, a progressive state with great access to reproductive health care options, and because your daughters and their teammates are from well-off families, you will likely never hear of these intensely private decisions.

However, as your daughters get older, you might become more sensitive to the fate of their contemporaries in states that have closed many of their facilities that offered reproductive care, along with basic and necessary health care. These young women are starting to self-abort, as medically-supervised treatment has become too distant or expensive. Coat hangers and abdominal beatings are ugly realities once again, and if it weren’t for the availability of abortion medications, there might already be basketball-squads-worth of dead young women.

No amount of religious training, or obstructionist action such as those you took against that young immigrant, will prevent women from seeking to control their bodies. The cost of this struggle will be counted in the dead or maimed, just as it had before Roe v. Wade, but this time, the horror might have your name attached. So instead of just worrying whether it’s your turn for the carpool, use your “father-protector-power” to make sure that all the daughters of this nation have access to safe, effective medical treatment and the privacy to make their own decisions. That’s what a good dad of daughters would do.

Newly released documents revealed this week that Kavanaugh does not believe Roe v. Wade is settled law — and that the Supreme Court could overturn it. He also referred to birth control as “abortion-inducing drugs” — which is not only wildly inaccurate but is anti-woman, anti-science propaganda.

There are 14 abortion cases that he could rule on right away, should he get confirmed.

We simply cannot let this happen and watch him cast the deciding votes to roll back our constitutional right to abortion. This is the moment to fight with everything we’ve got to #StopKavanaugh.

Action #7 – Fund Susan Collins’ replacement if she screws this up.

You don’t have to be from her state to help with this. Add your contribution here. Your credit card is only charged if she votes for Kavanaugh. It’s up to $240k now!

Action #8 – Donate to help the women who protest at the Kavanaugh hearings

More than 20 protesters have been escorted out and arrested by Capitol Hill Police after interrupting the hearings, including one woman from Illinois in a wheelchair who called out her concerns over her pre-existing condition. According to organizers of the Women’s March, hundreds of women are prepared to get arrested during the hearings. Donate here.
