The Senate Judiciary Committee will open hearings on the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to SCOTUS on Monday, March 20th. Democratic Senators will try to get a fix on Gorsuch’s legal views. We expect Gorsuch will try to say as little as possible.

Script: Hi, I’m calling from [zip code] to tell you I am terrified about Gorsuch’s appointment to SCOTUS. He could affect progressive causes, gay and transgender rights, affirmative actions and reproductive rights, just to name a few. Please do all you can to expose his ultra conservatism. Please do all you can to block his nomination. Thank you.
Feinstein on Gorsuch last month: “I think we are dealing with someone who is impressive, so we’ll see.”
Educate yourself on Gorsuch’s conservative positions. He has not ruled on many issues, but the legal road signs are there:
• he has never sided with advocates of birth control or abortion rights
• he supposedly has a web of ties to a secretive billionaire
Senate hearings are expected to last 3 days. After the hearings, there supposedly will be 30 hours of questioning. A confirmation vote could happen as early as Thursday.
There are reports that nine Senate Democrats have stated Judge Neil Gorsuch deserves an up-or-down vote, implying that they would not vote to support a filibuster to block his nomination. Our two Democratic senators, Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, have expressed reservations about Gorsuch, but it is unclear if they support a filibuster or not.
They must ask pointed, explicit questions that will require specific responses from this ultra conservative nominee.
