Greetings Public Lands Activists:
We are starting to get more details as we talk with the Secretary of the Interior’s office regarding the national monuments Interior Secretary Zinke has recommended be reduced in size to the President today.
As we knew all along the main targets of the national monument review ordered by the President was Bears Ears National Monument and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument both in Utah. And that was proven true today. When the President acts those two NM’s will shrink dramatically.
But there is more, many national monument protection rules and regulations will be changed or done away with altogether. Many NM’s will see what the Secretary calls “more appropriate multiple uses”.
The 2018 federal budget will also be used to impact many national monuments and other national public lands in a negative way.
It appears that the Administration will dribble out over a period of time exactly what other NM’s will have boundaries reduced, this hoping to avoid massive public outcry (we will make sure that no matter when, there WILL BE massive public outcry).
