Thurs – 1/24: ” It’s Not a Shutdown. It’s a Right-Wing Coup.” The looting of OUR resources has already begun…

According to this powerful article from The Nation.com, what we are facing is a “liberal” government shutdown. “The military, Trump’s luxurious vacations, soft power, our bombing of seven Muslim-majority countries, NSA bulk surveillance, agencies that prop up the oil and gas industry, the CIA’s arming and funding of Syrian rebels, and the FBI’s entrapment regime will continue on, while programs important to the poor and working classes, such as libraries, tax collection, national parks, labor and safety regulators, the Small Business AdministrationCommodity Futures Trading Commission (which oversees the derivatives market), environmental regulators, financial regulators, welfare, and WIC will all be shuttered.”

Well, at least partially shuttered. If a national park or refuge contains a resource that a corporate friend of the administration wants, the government will force unpaid workers to help them access it.

Action – Call your legislators and the House Natural Resource Committee to shut this down.

Minimum script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Committee [___] to call for an investigation of violations of the Antideficiency Act in regards to ALL fossil fuel and timber-related activities on public land, (including drilling, logging, permit processing, inspections, public meetings and regulatory documents) and the immediate cessation of discriminatory access for hunters until the shutdown is completely lifted. All these activities are “NON-ESSENTIAL” for the safety of human life or the protection of property. (31 U.S.C. § 1342.)

Thurs – 1/24: End the #TrumpShutdown – no extortion money for a wall – 3 Actions!

Action #1 – Join Indivisibles across the country as we call our own senators every day this week!

There will be two votes in the Senate this week, one on Trump’s anti-immigrant bill and one on a clean continuing resolution (CR) that would fund the government through Feb. 8. We need to make sure that the Senate doesn’t pay Trump’s ransom.

Meanwhile, legislators are getting swamped with calls from conservative groups who believe Trump’s lies and want his stupid wall.

This is how the Tea Party took us over…

There are more of us! Fight back!

The phone war is so ON! Call your senator every day this week and tell him/her you don’t want your taxpayer dollars going to fund Trump’s wall. Use the same script over and over or mix it up. Continue reading “Thurs – 1/24: End the #TrumpShutdown – no extortion money for a wall – 3 Actions!”

Wed – 1/23: Update on the giveaway of pristine public land to a foreign copper mining company with a bad rep.! Site is up again and deadline extended to Jan. 30th!

Update: There was some pretty snaky stuff going on at the BLM as they attempt to hand over a beautiful wilderness area to a Chilean copper mining giant with a lousy environmental record. (More links under “Reading” below) Along with other protesters, Indivisible Ventura emailed a letter demanding they reopen the site AND extend the deadline to make up for the lost time, which was copied to our senators, representative and Rep. Grijalva (D-AZ), head of the House Natural Resources Committee. We’ll be watching…

Action – Be Indivisible. Spend 10 minutes helping people stop this slow-motion environmental disaster-in-waiting.

Although a request is in to extend the comment period to 60 days, go ahead and post a public comment directly with the US. Forest service here, opposing the proposal to renew expired mineral leases on the Superior National Forest near the Boundary Waters by new deadline of Jan. 30th.

Tips on comments:

  • Write your comment in another app, like Word or Notes, then copy it in. Reports back that the 1-hr. time limit to comment is wonky.
  • The “NEXT”  button to proceed with each step is on the far bottom right.
  • Use your own words. The BLM counts all identical comments as a single comment.
  • Example comments below.

Action – Be Indivisible. Spend 10 minutes this MLK Day helping people stop this travesty.

  • Note: the eplanning portal site is down. (Not essential?) Write out your comment on a separate file and get it ready to submit. Have emailed leadership personnel at BLM with request to extend comment period. Copied our senators and congresspeople.

Action #2 – Thank Delta Air Lines for their grant that allows the MLK Jr. National Historical Park to open for the holiday.

The National Park Service said on Thursday that it will reopen the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park in Atlanta, GA, ahead of the coming holiday honoring Dr. King’s legacy after receiving an $83,500 grant from the Delta Air Lines Foundation. The grant, which covers cleanup, administration, maintenance and operating costs, will allow the park will be reopened on Saturday and remain open for 16 days, until Feb. 3rd, so that people can celebrate the civil rights hero.

Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines posted in LinkedIn:

“The time is always right to do what is right.”
These powerful words spoken by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. resonate stronger than ever as we celebrate his life and legacy this weekend. While his work in bringing people together can be felt worldwide, his influence is a constant presence in Delta’s hometown of Atlanta. Upon learning that the meant Dr. King’s birth home, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Fire Station No. 6 and the visitor center would be closed during the national holiday, we knew we had to take action. These historic landmarks represent the strength of our community and should always be made available for the public to enjoy. I’m honored and humbled that will continue supporting Dr. King’s legacy by funding the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park, allowing these sites to be open January 19 through February 3. For everyone visiting Atlanta for the big game, I highly recommend touring these inspiring sites.
