Remember the work we did for the 2020 election? Time to do it again for democracy itself.

Join one of these four campaigns to help push through S.1- “For the People” Act.

The S-1 For the People Act is an ambitious Democratic proposal that includes provisions like: making it easier to register to vote, expanding early voting nationwide, attempting to end political gerrymandering and supporting statehood for the District of Columbia. Some polls have found that a majority of Americans support many of the provisions currently in the bill.” (Here’s a quick primer on S.1 – For the People Act.)

Find a call campaign that fits your schedule and roll up your sleeves! Are you an introvert who really hates calling people? Well, that may actually be your super-power! Check this link out and find out why…

1 – FAIR FIGHT

Fair Fight Club founder Stacey Abrams:Today I’m launching Hot Call Summer— because in order to pass the For The People Act, we need your help to make sure our Senators know how important this legislation is to you.

So far this year, 47 state legislatures have introduced at least 361 bills that would make it harder to vote. Fair Fight Action is launching nationwide advocacy efforts in support of urgently needed federal voting rights laws like the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and S.1, the For the People Act. We need your help to call voters in states across the country to hear their voting experiences. Through these stories you will help collect, Fair Fight Action and our partners will demonstrate to Congress the need for enhanced federal protections to ensure all eligible voters are able to cast their vote freely and make their voices heard, regardless of where they live.”

  • Action #1: Here’s what you can do right now and every day!:
    • No matter where you live, no matter what your Senator has already said, I need you to call your US Senators every day in June to demand that Senators pass the For The People Act to protect our freedom to vote. Call 888-453-3211 (or see below) to be connected to your Senators now – and don’t be afraid to call them daily to keep the pressure on.”
      • Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Sen. [___]  work hard to pass S1, the For the People Act. What makes something “bipartisan” is not whether politicians of both parties endorse a bill—but whether the proposal has broad support among voters across the political spectrum. This bill does. It’s time to stop making excuses, and start delivering results for the American people. We want dark money out of politics; we want partisan gerrymandering to end. We want to be able to vote freely and fairly. Do your jobs, please. Make passing S1 your top priority.
      • For Democrats, add-in script: Please talk to your colleagues who still support the filibuster over what’s really important to us.
        • Contacts: This legislation is co-sponsored by both our senators, Feinstein and Padilla. See Feinstein’s statement here.
          • Senator Feinstein: email, DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430

3 – Tuesday(s) 6/15 – “Represent US – June 15th Nation Phonebank to pass the For the People Act (2:30 – 5:00 pm PDT)

Link here: https://vol.represent.us/a/pb_61521

The For the People Act would help eliminate dark money, and end gerrymandering just in time for the redistricting process that only happens every ten years. The For the People Act is expected to get a vote in the Senate this summer, and we have to do whatever it takes to pass this bill.

Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia is key to getting the For the People Act to the floor, so he needs to know that West Virginians have his back and support the For the People Act.

Every Tuesday, we’re calling West Virginia voters to tell them about this sweeping anti-corruption bill, and asking them to make a quick call to Senator Manchin.

When: 5:30pm – 8pm ET on Tuesday, June 15th

Where: Right from your computer! The phonebank will start with a training hosted virtually on Zoom.

Why: To educate voters in West Virginia about the For the People Act, and connect them to Senator Manchin’s office.

First time phonebanking with RepresentUs? Don’t worry, we kick off every phonebank with a training at 5:30pm ET on Zoom.

Deeper Dive on S.1 – For the People Act

This bill addresses voter access, election integrity and security, campaign finance, and ethics for ALL three branches of government.

Voter Registration: Specifically, the bill expands voter registration (e.g., automatic and same-day registration) and voting access (e.g., vote-by-mail and early voting). It also limits removing voters from voter rolls.

Election Security: Additionally, the bill sets forth provisions related to election security, including sharing intelligence information with state election officials, supporting states in securing their election systems, developing a national strategy to protect U.S. democratic institutions, establishing in the legislative branch the National Commission to Protect United States Democratic Institutions, and other provisions to improve the cybersecurity of election systems.

Campaign Finance: Further, the bill addresses campaign finance, including by expanding the prohibition on campaign spending by foreign nationals, requiring additional disclosure of campaign-related fundraising and spending, requiring additional disclaimers regarding certain political advertising, and establishing an alternative campaign funding system for certain federal offices.

Ethics: The bill addresses ethics in all three branches of government, including by requiring a code of conduct for Supreme Court Justices, prohibiting Members of the House from serving on the board of a for-profit entity, and establishing additional conflict-of-interest and ethics provisions for federal employees and the White House.
