Pink it up, people!

Today, Wednesday, June 21, people are coming together across the country to fight for Planned Parenthood.

As part of the GOP’s strategy to pander to religious conservatives while removing actual healthcare, especially for low-income women, from their “Taxcare for the Wealthy” plan, Planned Parenthood would be defunded for one year unless it stops offering abortions, a legal and safe medical procedure. This will cause an estimated 2.4 million patients to lose access to care, the majority of which does not include abortion services. Every year, PP health centers provide birth control for nearly 2 million people, over 4.2 million STD tests and treatments; over 320,000 breast exams; and nearly 295,000 Pap tests. A Quinnipac poll released Jan. 27 found that 62 percent of American voters are against defunding Planned Parenthood, and 80 percent are opposed if they knew federal money was being used only for nonabortion health services, as is the case. If we lose this struggle, women will be paying with their lives.

“Alert the Media!”

#PinkOut your profile picture so your friends and family know you’re always proud to stand with Planned Parenthood.

Join the Thunderclap to lend a social media post to a special Pink Out Day message. Everyone’s post will launch together at 12:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday in a show of force that lawmakers can’t ignore.

Making it personal connects us.

Record your #IStandWithPP story: It doesn’t need to be fancy. Just use your phone or webcam. A minute or two is more than enough, and all that matters is you speak from the heart. Say how Planned Parenthood has helped you and, if you’re comfortable, the city and state where you live.

Post it to social media. Facebook and Twitter are best so you can tag your senators, and use the #IStandWithPP hashtag too. If you’re posting to Facebook, please make it public — that’s how your senators can see that you tagged them. (If you aren’t comfortable making it public, that’s okay. It still helps to post your video so your friends see that you care.)

Write your #IStandWithPP story and post to Facebook. Tag your senators and mike it public if you can. Share a #PinkOut selfie using the hashtag: #IStandwithPP. Don’t forget to wear pink! Boost Jillian’s story. Watch and share with your friends.

Until June 30, every dollar you give to Planned Parenthood Action Fund will be MATCHED, $1-for-$1, up to the $250,000 goal. Make your gift right now to double your impact, defend reproductive health and rights, and protect access to care for millions.

MOST IMPORTANT! – Call your senators!

Quick Link for calling!  Set a daily reminder on your phone and call every day in June. Ten calls from one person are just as useful as calls from ten different people.

Script – short version: I’m calling to ask my Senator to vote NO on any attempt to defund Planned Parenthood. I expect my Senator to vote against any attacks on Planned Parenthood and the vital health services they provide.  My zip code is [#####]. Thank you for your time.

Script – long version:  I’m calling to ask my Senator to vote NO on any attempt to defund Planned Parenthood. This is nothing more than a blatantly political attempt to do whatever it takes to attack women’s health and rights and take health care away from the people who need it most. If Congress cuts funding to Planned Parenthood, millions of people will be left without access to birth control, lifesaving cancer screenings, and other basic care. Many of them will have nowhere else to go for the health care they need.

I’m counting on my Senator to do the right thing and stand up for the Planned Parenthood patients in our community and across the country who are counting on those health centers. I stand with Planned Parenthood because [insert your own story, if you like]. I expect my Senator to vote against any attacks on Planned Parenthood and the vital health services they provide. My zip code is [#####].  Thank you for your time.

Yes, really, call your California Senators!

(Even though we know they support Planned Parenthood, they need our calls.)
