Tues – 9/10: Guns meet common sense – access limitations and federal universal background checks for guns AND bullets.

See story and video of suspect stopped BEFORE people were killed here. This happened yesterday, 9/9.

Action #1 – Still in play! CA actions to limit access to guns – “YES” on AB 893 – Stop gun shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and SB – 61 – Firearms Transfers.

AB 893 – “22nd District Agricultural Association: firearm and ammunition sales at the Del Mar Fairgrounds” would, on and after January 1, 2021, prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition at the Del Mar Fairgrounds property located in the 22nd District Agricultural Association, as specified, and would thereby make a violation of that prohibition a misdemeanor. The bill would exclude from its provisions a gun buyback event held by a law enforcement agency. (Assemblymember Gloria)

Minimal script for your State Senator: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Senator [___] to vote “YES” on AB 893.. It’s time for stop our public property to be used for gun shows and it’s also time that funding for all political messages, from whatever media, is no longer a secret from voters.

Action #3 – Senators – vote “YES!” on S.42 – Background Check Expansion Act and  HR 1705/S.1942 – Jaime’s Law.

Do background checks save lives? Yes, people are walking around today in Fort Worth, Texas, because yesterday, background checks kept a disturbed man intent on a shooting spree from gaining access to guns before police could catch up to him. A loophole in our laws allowed 22% of US gun owners to acquire their most recent firearm without a background check. Getting bullets should be just as hard as getting a gun, so we’re putting these together in one action.

HR 8/ S.42 – Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019
HR 8 – PASSED -Reps. Brownley & Carbajal were cosponsors. Rep-check here

S.42 is already supported by Feinstein and Harris. Sen-check here

HR 1705/S.1942  – Jaime’s Law (Ammunition Background check)
HR 1705 -Rep Brownley is a cosponsor, Ask Carbajal to step up. Rep-check here
S.1942 only has one cosponsor and it’s NOT Feinstein or Harris. Fix this. Sen-check here.

Minimal script for missing cosponsors:  I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Sen. to support {Rep.= HR 8/Sen = S.42} the Bipartisan Background Checks Act and {Rep.=HR 1705/Sen =S.1942} Jaime’s Law.

Action #4 – Federal red flag/high capacity magazine limits/hate crime  laws – what’s happening?

Red flag laws are currently only available in only 17 statesThey are laws that authorize courts to issue a special type of protection order, allowing the police to temporarily confiscate firearms from people who are deemed by a judge to be a danger to themselves or to others.. A study published last year found that red-flag measures were associated with a 13.7 percent drop in the gun suicide rate in Connecticut and a 7.5 percent reduction in Indiana. The House Judiciary Committee is expected to advance three bills this week — one giving incentives to states for red flag laws, one banning high capacity magazines for firearms, and one banning firearm sales to individuals with misdemeanor hate crime convictions.

Minimal script:  I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Sen. [___] to support federal regulations for red flag laws, high capacity magazine bans and checks against hate crime perpetrators obtaining guns.
