Action #1: Teepee Rep. Diane Black’s office with postcards…
Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), now running for governor, is revving up the hate-machine in her state by unleashing H.R. 6318 – “Zero Tolerance for Illegal Entry Act”. However, this monster reaches far beyond the borders of Tennessee. It’s so toxic, there are currently no cosponsors, and it looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Not only does it criminalize asylum seekers, immediately turning them into felons with a year+a day sentence, and making them ineligible to ever apply for legal residence, it removes funding from public works and community development funding to sanctuary states and GIVES IT TO ICE (!). Estimates are astronomical to imprison most immigrants for a year, and it should also be noted that private prison giant, CoreCivic Inc., contributed $21,874 to Black this year, and $11,000 for the 2016 cycle.
She’s not our person, but the US mail will still delivers to her office. Note: postcard stamps are 35 cents. Here’s her address and a modest example. Share your postcard script here.

Action #2: Dear Jeff…
On June 11th, Attorney General Jeff Sessions removed asylum protections for victims of domestic and gang violence in a ruling that endangers the lives of tens of thousands of immigrants, mostly women and minors. The government now requires proof that the home country is unable or unwilling to help the victims, AND “that the government condoned the private actions or demonstrated an inability to protect the victims.” Here’s his address and another modest example. Share your postcard script here.

Action #3: Demand Accountability for Abuses by ICE
As we learn more about ICE and their treatment of detainees, the horrors become more grotesque. Reports state that men, women, and children held by ICE experience sexual abuse, from groping to verbal threats to rape. Pregant women are being denied care. The annual Homeland Security appropriations bill is making its way through Congress. Call your legislators to demand that the bill include money for a special committee to investigate all allegations of abuse by ICE and within DHS’s component agencies, and a requirement that this information be made public on a quarterly basis.
Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to insist that Rep./Senator [___] not reauthorize funding for ICE unless the Homeland Security appropriations bill includes funding for a special committee to investigate all allegations of abuse by ICE and the DHS’s component agencies and publicly publish their findings on a quarterly basis.
