Wed. 4/11 – The war on the truth continues. Power up your phones.

Trump sought to fire Mueller last December and on Monday, he said “many people” have suggested he fire him now, after the special counsel issued a referral that helped lead to a Monday FBI raid on Michael Cohen, Trump’s personal attorney.

Senators have just introduced a new bipartisan bill to protect Mueller.
Lots of noise and fury, but we’re yet to see a lot of signers on any of these bills.
This time you call, make it clear you expect to see your representatives names as cosponsors on all their houses’ bills.

Action #1 – Contact your Representative in the House

H.R. 4669 – Special Counsel Integrity Act
Text similar to HR 3771 below.
Current cosponsors hereThere is currently only one.

H.R.3771 – Special Counsel Integrity Act
These bills state that a special counsel may be disciplined or removed only by the personal action of an Attorney General who has been confirmed by the Senate. If the Attorney General is recused from the matter, then a special counsel may be disciplined or removed by the most senior DOJ official who has been confirmed by the Senate and is not recused from the matter.

A special counsel: (1) may only be removed for misconduct, dereliction of duty, incapacity, conflict of interest, or other good cause, including violation of DOJ policies; (2) must be informed in writing of the specific reason for the removal; and (3) may file an action for judicial review of the removal.

Current cosponsors here. There is currently only one.

Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep. [___] to co-sign and strongly support HR 4669 and HR 3771 to protect the special counsel. I am extremely disappointed that they haven’t gone on record in support of these bills.

Action #2 – Contact your Senators

# pending – Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act
This legislation would let Mueller, or any other special counsel, receive an “expedited judicial review” within 10 days of being fired to determine if it was for a “good cause.” If it was determined it wasn’t, he would be reinstated. It would also codify regulations that only a senior Justice Department official can fire a special counsel and that they must provide the reason in writing.

S. 1741 – Special Counsel Integrity Act.

This bill is identical to the House bills above.

Current cosponsors here. There is currently only one.

Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Senator [___] to co-sign and strongly support S.1741 and and the new “Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act” to protect the special counsel. I am extremely disappointed that they haven’t gone on record in support of these bills.
