No, no, no… Indivisible isn’t asking you to get yourself arrested.
We’re just asking you to make some calls.
No, not just your own Senators. Something more interesting…
(from our National group – Indivisibleguide.com)
Say it with us: “This is not over.”
We lost a procedural vote today that puts Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that much closer to the finish line. But he still has a huge lift on his hands: convince 50 Senators to vote for a complete dumpster fire of a bill—a bill that will cause 15 to 32 million people to lose their insurance, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, and a bill that at least 58 Senators are on record as opposing in some previous iteration.
Usually a vote for the Motion to Proceed (MTP) signals support for the underlying bill. But senators literally do not know which bill they’re taking a final vote on—which means the outcome is anyone’s guess. The vote on final passage will be Thursday or Friday, so we need you RIGHT NOW.
What blue state residents can do…
We get it. You live in a blue state, your own senators oppose TrumpCare, so what can you do? You’ve thanked your Democratic senators (do it again Thurs. & Friday) for withholding consent and holding the line. That’s important. That’s not all though.
We’ve got a game changing new tool that lets you lend a hand to defeat TrumpCare, from the comfort of your blue state—sign up here. You can make calls starting this afternoon (Wednesday 7/25) at 4:45 pm ET to help pressure key senators in Nevada and West Virginia. It’s a simple four-part process:
- You call a voter in a key state with a swing Republican. First, you’ll make calls to the folks in target states. These folks are your friends—they attended the Women’s March and/or fight for progressive causes.
- You explain how they have power now. You’ll remind them why the continued fight against TrumpCare is so important—and why they have particular power in this moment.
- You ask them to use their power. Then, you’ll ask them to call their senator in opposition to the bill, and to share their own reasons for opposing it.
- The tool connects them to their Senator’s office. The call tool will allow you to automatically patch them through to the Senators’ district offices.
It’s that easy.
Paying for these calls
We’re covering the costs of these calls—we got a bargain price for them at 13 cents per minute. To build the wave of constituent power we need, we are trying to raise $20,000 to fund thousands of calls targeted in two key states: Nevada and West Virginia, where the most persuadable Senate Republicans are.
If you can chip in just $26, that will fund 40 five-minute conversations between blue states to constituents in Nevada and West Virginia to emphasize the devastating impact TrumpCare would have and ask them to call their Senator on the spot. We just decided yesterday to pull out all the stops and purchase this tool, and your support today will allow us to fund thousands more constituents to pressure their Senators. Join us.
You’ve been fighting this monstrous bill for months now. Yes, today was a setback, but this battle IS NOT OVER. A lot has to happen between now and the end of the week for McConnell to win over enough senators to support TrumpCare. Once again, we need you to step up and stop this bill. Your constituent power has worked. Let’s show Congress that as long as they try to take away our health care, we’re not giving up.
