Thurs 3/26: Real-life heroes don’t wear capes. Pass these two bills to get protective medical equipment to them now!

You can put these together in one call or split them up!

Action #1  – Call your legislators and ask them to approve the “Medical Supply Chain Emergency Act” immediately!

Medical workers are quitting.  “It was a real obvious choice,”one nurse said. “I either leave before I get sick and possibly get my family sick. Or I leave after I get sick. It was a simple risk versus benefit challenge.” The California Nurses Association, part of a union of more than 100,000 nurses nationwide, has considered calling for individual nurses to invoke a legal refusal to provide care — known as a “safety stop” — over working conditions at some hospitals, including big chains like Kaiser.

We  can’t literally eat money, and throwing it at sick people isn’t helpful either (It’s incredibly dirty.) But transforming it into PPE’s (personal protective equipment) to protect both healthcare workers, patients and the community at large, however, is a great idea. But that means there needs to be companies making these supplies to take the money, and that where Trump’s refusal to use the  Defense Production Act (DPA) is going to literally kill Americans. Hospitals, states and the federal goverment are forced to compete in an inefficent and expensive version of the Hunger Games. Bipartisan members of Congress in both the House and Senate have introduced the Medical Supply Chain Emergency Act, which would force the president to utilize the DPA to require the production of medical equipment.

Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep/Sen. [___] to push through the Medical Supply Chain Emergency Act immediately.

Action #2: Pass H.R.6139 – COVID-19 Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2020

HR 6139 requires the Department of Labor to create an emergency temporary occupational safety or health standard and a permanent standard to protect employees from occupational exposure to SARS-CoV-2 (known as coronavirus or COVID-19). These standards apply to health care sector employees and other employees identified as having an elevated risk for exposure.

Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep/Sen. [___] to push through the HR 6139 – COVID-19 Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2020 immediately.
