Nice compilation of world-wide strike actions here.
Action #1 – Quick action to #StopFundingFossils.
The EIB is Europe’s largest public bank. Right now, it’s deciding whether or not to invest BILLIONS more toward fossil fuel projects. They must be looking at Germany’s plan to quit their coal habit in two decades, as well as other countries with aggressive sustainability plans and wonder…why invest in the past? Let’s raise our voices and tell the EIB to #StopFundingFossils. Sign here.
Action #2 – Who’s taken the “No Fossil Fuel Money” pledge?
(BTW, Beto broke his promise…)
“Taking the pledge means that a politician and their campaign will adopt a policy to not knowingly accept any contributions over $200 from the PACs, executives, or front groups of fossil fuel companies — companies whose primary business is the extraction, processing, distribution, or sale of oil, gas, or coal.“ See the list of signers here.
- Federal Level: Senator Dianne Feinstein has signed. Sen. Kamala Harris, & Reps. Brownley and Carbajal have not.
- State Level* (see note below): Governor Newsom has signed, Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and Monique Limón have not.
Minimal email script: Please sign on to the “No Fossil Fuel Money“ pledge. During this time of global warming, we need to remove their counterproductive influence from politics.
*In California, The Democratic Party no longer accepts donations from the oil industry, but it’s still actively supporting “moderate” CA Democrats, who then water down or kill environmental bills, just like Republicans. We were disappointed to see that Hannah-Beth Jackson received a score of 77% from the CA Environmental Justice Alliance Scorecard. Assemblymember Monique Limón, however, received a 100% score!

Why is it critical to call out the fossil fuel industry over all others?
This is an amazing video. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse lays it all out… (Spoiler alert – the kids are right.)
Action #3 – Encourage the future, even if they don’t have EVERY answer right now. “YES” on H.Res.109/S.Res.59 Green New Deal.
H.Res.109/ S.Res.59 – “Recognizing the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal.”
- Rep-check here. (90 sponsors, Carbajal has cosponsored, Brownley has not.)
- Sen-check here. (11 cosponsors, Harris has cosponsored, Feinstein has not)
Minimal Script to a supporter: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want to thank Rep./Sen. [___] for cosponsoring and supporting (Rep.) H.Res.109/ (Sen.) S.Res.59 – the “Green New Deal” federal action on climate change.
Minimal Script to a legislator afraid to take the leap: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Sen. [___] to cosponsor and support (Rep.) H.Res.109/ (Sen.) S.Res.59 – the “Green New Deal” federal action on climate change. This is the most urgent challenge of our time, and supporting this resolution would demonstrate that the Senator understands the kind of action we need to take to prevent catastrophic levels of global warming.

Action #4 – Educate the future. “YES” on S.477 – Climate Change Education Act
Although we overwhelming support teaching students about climate change, only 30% of middle school and 45% of high school science teachers understand the extent of scientific consensus on climate change. S. 477 – the “Climate Change Education Act” would increase climate change literacy, applying the latest scientific and technological discoveries to help individuals of all ages, cultural and linguistic backgrounds to understand and implement new technologies, programs, and incentives related to climate change.
Sen-check here. (Feinstein and Harris are two of the 15 cosponsors so far. Yay!)
Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want to thank the Rep./Sen. [___] for cosponsoring and supporting S. 477 – “Climate Change Education Act”.

Action #5 – Support CA’s own “Green New Deal” too. Say “YES” to AB-1276
AB-1276‘s intent is to develop and implement our own Green New Deal with the objective of reaching specified environmental outcomes within the target window of 10 years from the start of execution of the plan and accomplishing certain goals. Read all the goals here.
Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want to be sure that Assemblymember [___] will support AB-1276, the “Green New Deal“.
