(All over Berlin and other parts of Germany, you can find Stolpersteine (“stumbling block”) embedded in the paving. These are small plaques memorializing local Holocaust victims that begin with “Here lived..” and includes details about the person’s life, including when they were born and when and where they died.)

This is the last day of the last year that the majority of us can deduct our charitable contributions. So if you have a few dollars left, here are both some less-known ways you can contribute and some important charitable funds we may take for granted…

Are we as brave as the Germans in confronting hard truths?
Our country is currently home to over a thousand monuments celebrating a deliberately fictitious version of the Civil War. However, there are few markers that truly describe the savagery that followed the war – the lynching deaths of over 4000 black Americans between the years of 1877 to 1950. This deliberate forgetting and suppression of history infects our culture through the present day. But we can donate to help create an amazing work of memory, healing and contemplation here.
