Action #1: Email the U.S. Department of Education to advocate for the end of corporate charter schools and support accountability and transparency for all schools taking our tax dollars.
EASY: Use this form from the National Education Association and PERSONALIZE the attached letter. Talk about your own kids, grandkids, or in defense of the kids whose public schools will suffer as money is diverted to the pockets of private corporations. No one wants their tax money going to support white flight or into the pockets of crooks.
CalPERS and CalSTRS have an estimated $9 BILLION invested in fossil fuel production. For eight years, their members have called for their pensions to divest. The Fossil Fuel Divestment Act (SB 1173) would require CalPERS and CalSTRS to divest from fossil fuels by July 2027.
SB 1173 will be heard TODAY, MONDAY, 4/4, in the Senate Labor, Public Employment, and Retirement Committee.
We need lots of supporters to call in with quick public comments like this one:
Pick your script!
“I’m [NAME] and I’m calling in from [WHERE YOU LIVE] to say that I strongly support SB 1173.”
“My name is [NAME]. I’m with [ORGANIZATION] and we strongly support SB 1173.”
“I’m [NAME], I’m a CalPERS/STRS member with [ORGANIZATION], and we strongly support SB 1173.”
FOX CBS has actually hired one of Trump’s most venal shills. Make sure the home of Walter Cronkite hears our outrage.
Call: 1 (212) 975-3247
Email:https://www.cbs.com/showfeedback/ Click on “News” on first pull-down menu, and then click on one of the CBS news shows. They are apparently going to use Mick Mulvaney in a number of news platforms, so just pick one, and then work your way down the list, copying your message.
Sample email/call: [email: Dear Mr. Cheeks, Wendy McMahon,]
It was journalistic malpractice to hire a treasonous extremist like Mick Mulvaney as an on-air contributor. Not only did this fanboy of Russian-style autocracy give cover to Trump’s Ukraine shake-down, he tried to destroy the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, provided security clearances to unqualified people and misrepresented the seriousness of the pandemic. Why are you aiding and abetting a GOP takeover in November by allowing this traitorous liar to provide toxic and slanted takes on the actions of Biden and Democrats? That’s FOX News’ job.

We thought this was an illuminating debate on this issue.
Action: Qualified immunity is on the agenda in Thursday’s Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties. Time to push H.R.1470/S.492.
Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Sen. [___] to cosponsor and actively support H.R. 1470/S.492 – Ending Qualified Immunity Act, which would remove the protective shield from all state and local government employees who abuse their position of power to harm others.
H.R. 1470 – Cosponsors here: Brownley and Carbajal are not yet cosponsors.
S.492 – Cosponsors here. Senators Feinstein and Padilla are not yet cosponsors.
No more business as usual. We now have the tools to keep track of you.
There was once a line that the forced-birthers were traditionally reluctant to cross – their bills didn’t target women directly – instead they focused on onerous requirements for clinics and medical professionals. Texas then upped the ante by putting a bounty on those who aid women get abortions after 6 weeks. Missouri is now trying to extend the concept beyond their state’s borders and Idaho responded to the criticism of strangers suing strangers by allowing only family members, including those of rapists, to sue abortion providers. However heinous these bills are, they still concentrate on trapping women into carrying a fetus to term by removing their support system.
Judd Legum of Popular Information put out a new article about six companies who claim to be pro-woman while giving loads to money to lawmakers who’ve sponsored awful abortion bills in Idaho, Arizona, and Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, etc.
Option #12: (indivisibles.f.) Sample email to Biden: We are united behind you in supporting Ukraine’s fight against Putin’s invasion, and applaud your bold action in getting our allies to join the US in releasing 60 million barrels from strategic petroleum reserves. Unfortunately, in spite of your direct appeals to oil company executives to help the world curb Putin’s aggression, oil prices at the pump continue to rise.
It’s time to use your authority under the Defense Production Act to issue executive orders to address this crisis:
Bring down energy prices by declaring a National Climate Emergency and invoking the Defense Production Act to both increase the production of renewable energy and “combat and prohibit hoarding and price gouging with respect to those [oil and gas] resources” as the Trump administration did regarding PPE during the pandemic, and
Use the DPA to increase production of renewable energy, convert all federal vehicles to electric power, including postal vehicles, and steer the nation’s economy away from dependence on fossil fuels.
Save tens of thousands of lives annually by updating and strengthening clean air and water protections.
Require new residential and public construction to incorporate electric charging stations.
We also ask you to make additional releases from the strategic oil reserve to counter shortage-caused price spikes as needed. That’s the main purpose of the strategic reserve; now is the time to use it.
How many people were alarmed by the story in the graphic? Rio Verde Foothills, an unincorporated area on the outskirts of Scottsdale, Arizona, near Phoenix, has NO water. ZERO. ZIP. The ground water in that area is tapped out. They were subsisting with the use of water haulers, but they are no longer allowed to make deliveries due to the Tier I water shortage on the Colorado River. Communities in CA and across the nation are more vulnerable that we think and 2.2 million people in the U.S. are currently living without access to running water.

Action #2: Pass H.R.1352/S.916 – Water Affordability, Transparency, Equity, and Reliability Act of 2021 (WATER Act) for water justice.
Action #3: Pass H.R.7182/S.3886 – The Future of Water Act – stop Wall Street’s gambling with our water.

This is a great tutorial on Enbridge’s history with Line 5.
Now, 35 Canadian groups support the shutdown of the Enbridge #line5 pipeline. These groups, including @QuitRbc, @XRebellionMTL, @XROttawa, judge that the old pipe is too dangerous. It has spilled at least 1.1 million gallons of oil over the last 50 years. https://t.co/tL8kdPphsY
A written synopsis of Enbridge’s compliance issues and Line 5’s safety here.
Last January, President Biden committed to correcting environmental injustices and challenged the fossil fuel industry to stop exacerbating the climate crisis. Right now, in Wisconsin, he has the opportunity to follow through on this commitment.
Last month, hundreds of people took the time to protest the expansion of the Line 5 tar sands pipeline through Wisconsin, uplifting the threat it poses to tribal treaty rights, local waterways, and the Great Lakes.
Now, 35 organizations (28 from Quebec) including Équiterre, David Suzuki Foundation, Eau Secours, Regroupement Vigilance Hydrocarbures Québec and The Council of Canadians have sent a letter supporting the closure of Line 5 (attached). Their message is clear: this pipeline is too dangerous and those fighting to keep it open do not speak in our name. (Excellent report on alternatives here.)
Now, we must join them to call on the Biden Administration to reject Line 5’s permit to drill under White River which would devastate the water quality of Lake Superior.
