The Sensible Environmental Protection Act (S. 340), aka the “Poison Our Waters” Act, is nearing a vote in the Senate. It reverses a 2009 court ruling that pesticides that are applied to waterways should be considered pollutants and must be regulated under the Clean Water Act. Current law allows emergency use of pesticides for serious public health risks, so there’s no need for this bill. Vote NO.
Script: Please vote NO on S. 340. We have a right to know where and when pesticides are applied to waterways. Since emergency applications of pesticide are currently legal, there’s no need to remove this protection.
