- (Top Priorities) “I am running for City Council because I have a deep love for Fillmore and want to give back to the community that gave me my start in life. I have a long record of service in Fillmore, and I have the leadership skills and community ties necessary to be an effective advocate for the needs of our district and our community at large. I believe that Fillmore can continue to be a place of amazing opportunity, especially as we continue to grow. To that end, I would prioritize: (1) responsiveness: I would commit to regular office hours for listening to constituent concerns and for updating constituents on city business; and (2) community spaces: This includes shared physical spaces such as city parks, our downtown, walkable neighborhoods, pedestrian safety and even online spaces that our citizens use to interact with our city government.”
- (Fillmoregazette.com) “Personal: My wife Beverly and I are both graduates of Fillmore High School and my wife teaches 5th grade at Sespe School. - Elected office and years in office: Fillmore City Council, 2016 to present, Fillmore mayor in 2020, 2022
- Campaign website: austinforcouncil.com
- (Top Priorities) “Grow the local economy: Business development, job creation and tax revenue are extremely important to Fillmore because it creates more opportunity and a better quality of life for citizens. Over the next four years, I will continue to work toward streamlining the permitting process to allow businesses to open and locate within Fillmore more quickly. Provide public safety resources: Ventura County, which includes Fillmore, is recognized as one of the safest counties in the State of California. Over the past eight years, I have provided the funding needed to maintain service ratios for our police and fire departments. Improve our city’s street system: Many of our streets are in dire need of repair with many major potholes due to the substantial rains. I plan to tackle this issue over the next four years by setting aside general fund reserves each year to be used only for citywide roadway improvements.”

WINNER
- Occupation: Stay-at-home parent, City Council member
- Age: 46
- Party affiliation: Democrat
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in sociology, UC Berkeley; master’s degree in public health with an emphasis community health sciences from UCLA
- Elected office and years in office (if applicable): Fillmore City Council, December 2020 – present
- Campaign website: www.4more4villasenor.com
- (Top Priorities) “My top priority is meeting the needs of our growing community. Between 2013 and 2023, the population of Fillmore increased by nearly 13%. With such increases, I plan to ensure that 1. Our infrastructure – roads, water system and power sources – are keeping up with the demand through pro-active monitoring and keeping our D Street sewer line expansion moving forward; that 2. We provide quality community programming and recreational opportunities for families, including prioritizing upgrades to Two Rivers and Shiells Parks and developing public/private partnerships to expand cultural arts within our city; and that 3. More opportunities are created for Fillmore residents to invest their time and consumer spending within the city, from improving the external and internal environments for small businesses to be supported and succeed, to forming an exploratory committee for bringing back our beloved May festival.”
GARY A. CUSHING
- Occupation: Owner of Marie Callender’s Restaurant in Camarillo

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in political science from CSU Channel Islands, master’s degree in public policy and administration, California
- Elected office and years in office:None
- Campaign website: Cushingforfillmore2024.com
- (Top Priorities) “My top priorities are economic development. The city budget over the last five years has risen 32.5%, the amount that has been dedicated to economic development has dropped by 50%. There needs to be a focus on strengthening business. Highway 126 has two problems, the first being the backup of traffic that pushes traffic to the side streets. We need to work with Caltrans to synchronize the signal lights through town. There was a plan to make 126 safer back in 2016, with Caltrans, but it was never followed through. There have been 27 deaths on the 126 in the last five years that is unacceptable. I will advocate revisiting parts of the plan. Public safety and homelessness go together. We need to work with the county to solve the problem but don’t just rely on the county to fix the problem here. Be proactive in finding solutions.”

OSCAR MADRIGAL
- Age: 40
- Party affiliation: Democrat
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in history from California Lutheran University, master’s in public policy and administration from CLU
- Elected office and years in office: Eight years
- Campaign website: instagram.com/mustbeoscar, https://www.facebook.com/electMadrigal/
- Top priority: “My top priority is to continue the improvement to the quality of life for all Oxnard residents. Over the last few years, we have seen a drastic improvement with our community partners from different sectors in creating an employment pipeline within the city. We must continue and grow this working community pipeline in order for our residents to not only work, but also live within our community. By accomplishing this, we are opening doors for families. This allows us to get more services out to our community as our dollars stay in the city. Our job is to ensure our community thrives by not only growing our partnerships, but also enhancing our public services.”
- (CAUSE) “Oscar Madrigal, currently on the Oxnard City Council, is seeking reelection. His values and actions, particularly regarding tenant protections and affordable housing initiatives like inclusionary housing, align with CAUSE Action’s priorities. Given his strong track record, we are excited to endorse him in this crucial election.”

AARON STAR
WINNER
- Occupation: Financial controller, accountant
- Party affiliation: Libertarian
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from CSU Northridge
- Elected office and years in office (if applicable): None
- Campaign website: StarrForOxnard.com
- Top priority: “My top priority is reducing homelessness while improving housing affordability for Oxnard families. I will accomplish this priority by supporting a humane approach that expands job training and transitional housing resources for the temporarily homeless, prohibits homeless camping and requires medical treatment for mentally ill and drug addicted homeless individuals. In addition, I will work to improve housing affordability by reforming the city’s building permit system to reduce costly construction delays and lower excessive fees; and by creating an environment that attracts employers offering higher paying jobs for local workers, so they can better afford Oxnard’s high rent and housing costs.”
No matter what he says, he has already cost Oxnard’s residents a lot of money.
Mr. Starr has run for CA State Senate (1998) lost with 2.9% of the vote, Oxnard City Council (2016) and lost, Mayor of Oxnard (2018) and LOST, now – he’s running for City Council AGAIN!
Getting the idea that Oxnard doesn’t want him. Why? MAYBE because he is constantly suing the City of Oxnard (and attempting unsuccessful recalls) costing taxpayers untold amounts of money.
We still remember this comment from 4 years ago...
IceNein: “I honestly don’t care what your political viewpoints are, Aaron Star is a blight on Ventura County politics. If you look at his rationale for his litigiousness it’s because the city is unwilling to sit down and reach an accommodation with him.
Guess what Aaron, I do not want officials that i have elected to seek to accommodate you. If I wanted you to be accommodated, I would have voted for you any of the number of times you ran for office.
Aaron pretends to care about fiscal responsibility, but in reality his never ending ballot measures, recall elections, and litigation are draining the county more than anything he’s “fighting against.”
Fuck Aaron Star.”
Here’s an example!

“Since 2016, the city has spent nearly $1 million in legal fees in lawsuits against Starr and in defending itself against Starr. The amount is expected to continue rising because many legal matters have yet to be settled, including a recent appellate court decision on wastewater rates, which Starr is planning to challenge.
Oxnard City Manager Alex Nguyen said Starr is “obsessed with tearing down local government.”
“There’s nothing unusual about people criticizing City Hall,” Nguyen said. “What’s unusual is someone who has the money to impose his solutions. And his solutions are actually destructive; they’re not solutions.”
Here’s another! His failed recall campaign against four officials on the Oxnard City Council was estimated to cost nearly half a million dollars.

(VC Star) “Special elections such as this one to recall Mayor Tim Flynn and three council members tend to be costly because the city can’t share the costs with other agencies as it can during a general election. The bulk of the recall costs comes from hiring an elections vendor to provide printing, mailing, translation and other services…
…Starr has been criticized for waging a costly recall six months before Flynn, Ramirez and Perello are up for re-election. Starr, in turn, has criticized the city for going with a full signature count, thereby delaying the recall election and increasing costs.”
He has screwed up Oxnard’s ability to bond for long-term projects.

(Tricountysentry.com) City Manager Ashley Golden: “The bonding litigation has slowed progress for the new Senior Center and South Oxnard Aquatic Center, which are also priorities within the quality of life because we cannot access the funds to connect and construct these facilities.”

(Tricountysentry.com) Last October, the Council, and the Oxnard Financing Authority approved issuing lease revenue bonds to finance up to $36 million of street and alleyway improvements and $9 million to implement the City’s new Enterprise Resource Planning or ERP Systems for asset management and utility billing,” Fischer said. “In December, Starr and his political corporation Moving Oxnard Forward Inc. filed a complaint in Ventura County Superior Court to invalidate the lease revenue bond approvals.
…this litigation delays include renovating the current Senior Centers and building the new Senior Center, building the Aquatic Center, proceeding with Sports Park, repairing the sea walls, making downtown’s Fourth Street improvements, completing the build-out of College Park and replacing five Fire Stations that were built between 45 and 69 years ago.”
City Manager Alex Nguyen noted that Capital Bonds are used to pay for expensive, long-lived Capital Projects, like roads, bridges, airports, schools, hospitals, water treatment facilities, power plants, courthouses, and other public buildings. “The bonds spread the cost across multiple generations,” he said. “This idea that today’s kids or unborn kids should have no skin in the game about the public facilities they’ll get to enjoy later is really silly and foolish.”
Aaron managed to get this rant on tape!
(Watch this video here: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/2URFQ1w4JvpwPjvv/_

He pisses off his own people!
Ballotpedia: As treasurer for the national Libertarian party, Starr received criticism for a memo he wrote in 2009 discussing Libertarian Party at-large representative R. Lee Wrights. Delegates to the 2008 Libertarian National Convention called for Starr’s censure, claiming in a petition to the national party committee that he made confidential donor information public and that this constituted an “abuse of his position as our elected Treasurer.”

Having grown up with multiple families living under one roof, I know all too well the challenges families face to make ends meet in our community. I believe it’s essential that families who work here be able to call our community home. That’s why I will advocate for affordable and high-quality housing for our residents and fight for good-paying jobs. - Top priority: “South Oxnard community members have been asking for their voices to be heard and reflected in the decision-making of their representatives and economic investment. South Oxnard deserves new leadership in District 6 that is not afraid to take a stand with our community and fight for our quality of life. I will prioritize addressing the lack of investment in South Oxnard and economic disparities. Many residents struggle to put a meal on their table and may be one paycheck or accident away from homelessness. It is vital that, as councilmembers, we increase economic mobility initiatives, invest in opportunities for youth and residents, including professional development, skills training and apprenticeships. I will work with the council to streamline the permitting process and update ordinances to increase resource accessibility for small businesses and entrepreneurs. - Top priority: “We have reduced homelessness in Oxnard by 10% over the past year while 8 out of 10 cities in Ventura County have seen an increase in their homeless population. I will continue to prioritize sheltering and support services for our unhoused residents, because Oxnard has been getting results to reduce homelessness and keep our residents safe. As a councilmember, I will continue to advocate for our Homeless Navigation Center to be fully staffed when it opens and continue a strong partnership with the County of Ventura and the nonprofit Mercy House for operations to house individuals and provide a facility for detoxing, mental health and vocational training. Oxnard will continue to be an example of success for every other city in the county to follow.”

Democrat Luis Mc Arthur has served Oxnard for over 30 years and is ready to make sure our community doesn’t just get by but gets ahead! ote to protect our community. Stop the Republican takeover of Oxnard. Vote for Democrat Luis Mc Arthur for Mayor.”
- (Top Priorities) “Economic development is my top priority. I will advocate for initiatives that stimulate economic growth, support local businesses and provide great job opportunities. This includes redeveloping South Oxnard. But it’s challenging to attract businesses, homeowners or investors to neighborhoods perceived as unsafe. I will focus on innovative policing strategies and community partnerships to keep our neighborhoods safe, including supporting a drone program to help first responders and common-sense solutions to the homelessness crisis in Oxnard that continues unabated — fueled partly by a lack of affordable housing. I will call on the state to provide ongoing funding to bolster our city’s efforts to support individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. I support addressing the mental health and substance abuse crisis contributing to homelessness, strengthening wraparound services, empowering law enforcement to act in defense of their communities in public spaces and deregulating local housing markets to make housing more affordable.”

- (Top Priorities) “Oxnard city elected official positions have been filled by people who have forgotten what it feels like to have to choose between paying rent and groceries or paying for a necessary costly medical procedure. Local elected officials rub shoulders with the Who’s Who of Oxnard while ignoring the most marginalized residents and their needs. As someone who is still living well below the poverty line, my goal for Oxnard is to make decisions from the bottom up. That is to say, all decisions made regarding Oxnard will be prefaced by the question “How does this help the most vulnerable residents?” City officials’ salaries will be cut and city budget money will be used only for the absolutely necessary. There is no reason city officials should get $300,000 a year while most of us cannot afford rent. People over profits. We deserve better than they have been giving us.”

- (Top priority) “First, I will balance the city budget, create youth programs and jobs. By purchasing equipment at a lower cost, we could have saved money on our budget to allow room for our youth programs and community development. An EDC credit would be an Economic Development Credit, that will be given to businesses and residents affected by the growth changes and beautification of the city. Secondly, I would create youth programs and youth jobs for summer 2025, utilizing teachers and staff. l will work with the property owners to get vacant shops filled. I would also go to the city of Oxnard and to the county of Ventura and request that Port Hueneme extend its city limits, so it can add theaters, restaurants, and indoor and outdoor entertainment to strip malls on Hueneme Road. These investments will help to develop and to enrich our Economic Development Plan.“

- (Top priority) “As a Navy veteran and commander of the VFW, I partnered with city government to bring back the POW/MIA Flag on Veterans Day and Memorial Day. When last December’s floods devastated our community, I helped our Hueneme Bay neighbors clear out damaged property and feed those evacuated. With so many homeless veterans, we need to collaborate with government agencies to address this issue. Also, business owners and residents tell me we need less red tape. I will make these a priority and work with our police department to focus on the problem of porch pirates. My work with the American Red Cross, partnership with Grocery Outlet, support of the Port Hueneme Little League, and participation on the REACH Board of Directors helped me create many collaborative relationships. I can’t promise to solve all the issues in Port Hueneme, but together we can make progress, one step at a time.”

- (Top priority) “My campaign is built on the unwavering commitment to community, public safety, economic development and policies that support affordable housing. I am dedicated to ensuring our city fosters an environment where every resident can thrive. Some of our biggest challenges are housing and economic growth. We are a small city with limited land available for development. We will need to implement new policies that would allow for creative development ideas in already developed communities to bring much needed housing. We just put forth an Economic Development Plan that will take a full team effort and require innovative ideas while leveraging local resources to attract investors, collaborate with private companies to invest in infrastructure, real estate and commercial development projects and partnering with local colleges/unions to offer vocational training and skill development programs tailored to local industry needs.”

- Top priorities: “Economic prosperity that enhances what we love about Ventura, funds our infrastructure and public safety needs and attracts businesses to locate to Ventura, especially where the 73% of citizens currently commute, thus offering opportunities for the next generations to thrive. Supporting policies that encourage a variety of housing types that adhere to design standards, neighborhoods supported by transportation options and relieved of unintended barriers and inefficiencies that currently increase the cost of each new home by 25% and force neighbors to live on the streets where it shouldn’t happen. Looking at new ways to meet the many challenges of today while creating the most promising future for all of us! - Top priorities: “Ensuring hillside residents understand wildfire risks is crucial, as Ventura faces a wildfire every 10-15 years. After losing my home in the Thomas Fire and witnessing our community’s devastation, I am committed to prevention and preparedness. My focus is on sustainable strategies like fuel load reduction through Sen. Monique Limón’s Grazing Bill 675, which reduces climate impact while maintaining 100-foot defensible spaces. We must also strengthen emergency response systems and improve post-fire support. Additionally, there must be dialogue and transparency between District 2 residents and the Ventura Land Trust, use of public funds to open a new trail system. This integral conversation must address responsible signage, access points, impact on environment, wildlife, traffic, parking and safety. Finally, advocating for the success of small businesses and upholding responsible, meaningful and inclusive development that aligns with Ventura’s character and needs is essential. A balance of safety, responsibility, economic vitality and thoughtful growth.”

Like many cities across the country, Ventura’s housing crisis continues to negatively impact an increasing number of families, workers and vulnerable residents (i.e older adults). - Top priorities: “In the 2023-24 fiscal year, we had a $5 million budget allocated for road infrastructure, of which approximately $1 million was utilized. For 2024-25, the budget has increased to more than $15 million, with clear direction from City Manager Bill Ayub to ensure that every dollar is allocated efficiently. The revision and implementation of the street management plan for 2023 to 2027 are critical to enhancing the curb appeal and safety of our residents. - Top priorities: “Our city is plagued with issues, from our pothole-ridden roads, failing infrastructure, high crime rates and high homeless rates, to the high costs of living and the overdevelopment of our beautiful coastal town. I am ready to address these concerns on day one. VenturaWaterPure is the top priority. In 2020, our City Council approved a program to recycle our wastewater back to our sinks and raised our water rates approximately 42% over a five-year period to pay for it. A project this controversial and a rate increase of this magnitude should have been put on the ballot. It wasn’t and the costs have tripled to almost $700 million. As a result, there are discussions for significant additional rate increases. I will not support any rate increase and/or any additional funding to this project. I will move to put the project on hold until a reasonable resolution is determined.”

It’s important that we find practical solutions that will provide affordable workforce housing for local businesses, prevent homelessness in the first place and protect tenant’s rights, including unreasonable evictions. It’s also important to our community that we protect Ventura’s unique character by paying closer attention to building housing that is compatible with our surrounding neighborhoods. We need to secure our city’s financial stability. Fixing and maintaining our city’s existing infrastructure and planning for future improvements requires reliable financial resources. The condition of our streets and sidewalks is causing safety issues that cannot be ignored and the blight we all see is frankly embarrassing! Public safety should always be a priority. We need to ensure that our first responders have the resources they need and recognize that response time improvements are critical, especially for our aging population.”

Term Limits Initiative by running for re-election this year after having just served 12 consecutive years in office.Reduce Your Taxes by saying no to waste, fraud and abuse. End corporate favoritism and cronyism. Stop giving special breaks to billionaires and corporations. Get big money out of politics. Fight for the average taxpayer. Fight for more transparency in government. Promote tax refunds, tax rebates and tax credits as tools for empowering the taxpayer and addressing social problems that the government is unable to fix. Bring fresh ideas and common sense to the City Council. End the swindles, scandals and boondoggles. Always protect and defend the Bill of Rights. Leave room for some laughs and smiles in local government. As they said in Star Wars: “May the SCHWARTZ be With You!”
(OK, after smacking on his opponent, Jeff was already ready for a fact-check. Editor’s note: The city’s limit of three consecutive terms took effect in late 2012 and no current candidates have been termed out.)

We are very relieved that Jeff Schwartz is a RETIRED public health worker.
He is both too selfish and gullible to serve as a public official. People infected with COVID removed the FREEDOM TO LIVE from over a million Americans, including the elderly and the immunity-compromised who depended on those around them to take every precaution to protect them. People like Jeff, however, insisted that a relatively minor inconvenience was more important than protecting their lives. He was not alone – Republican political figures like Herman Cain discouraged people from taking it seriously, as did Trump himself. (Cain’s death from COVID after attending a 2020 Trump Tulsa rally without a face mask, inspired the grimly ironic website – the Herman Cain Awards.) Meanwhile scamsters, even ones with medical credentials, jumped in to profit on fake claims and cures.
A short trip down the COVID memory hole with our favorite mortician!
For those who’ve blocked out what it was like during the worst of the COVID under the Trump administration, here’s a reminder…
Public officials must be trusted to serve ALL their constituents, no matter what they personally believe, and those – like Jeff Schwartz – who won’t follow instructions for the highest level of care during a national emergency have no business in government.
Schwartz’s editorial (full version here) expressing pretty clearly his disdain for the lowly workers who were forced to serve his entitled self, while encouraging others to do the same – risking the workers’ health and safety, as well as that of their families.
Cranks and crackpots who’ve influenced Jeff Schwartz, who apparently has zero bullshit filters!
- Simone Gold, MD made the Quackwatch files as “one of the world’s most arrogant promoters of COVID-19 misinformation.…On January 6, 2021, Gold joined the mob that stormed the United States Capitol Building in an attempt to disrupt the 2020 election certification process. Later that month, she was charged with “entering a restricted building” and “violent entry or disorderly conduct.” [23] Shortly after her arrest, Gold relocated from California—which she calls “the Communist Nation of California”—to Naples, Florida.” Bye-bye, Simone. Please take Jeff Schwartz with you!
- Dr. Russell Blaylock, MD “has retired from neurosurgery and has taken up a career opposing science-based medicine and promoting pseudoscience-based medicine and supplements that he sells under the label Brain Repair Formula.”
- Dr. Sheri Tenpenny, DO – OMG!…this Ohio doctor is the idiot “who drew national attention when she told state legislators that COVID-19 vaccines made their recipients magnetic, “interface” with cell towers and interfered with women’s menstrual cycles.”

I will work with residents, local organizations and city leaders to support policies that foster unity, preserve our quality of life and promote long-term growth.”

- (Top Priorities) “Encouraging people to become new licensed Amateur Radio Operators would be my highest priority. It is in my view the “World’s Best Hobby” with its 3 million worldwide users having the best potential to become our American Experiment’s most vital contribution to crew operations for our “Spaceship Earth.” More “hams” mean even better communities of civil and civically-engaged, technically-conversant people prepared with a resilient infrastructure that can cope with the multiple possible disruptions that we can face from both nature and (sometimes malicious) human nature. The largest potential threat to our community’s life and organized human civilization would be the widespread extended loss of electricity from our vulnerable power grids and Radio Amateurs exemplify resilience by routinely operating “off grid.” The capability to do almost unlimited kinds of peer-to-peer and open source activities will astound by aggressively expanding this already crucial and robust planetary community. “73” de KK6VDR.“
Answers for Acorn “Candidate Profile Feature” – 2022
- 1) What is your primary reason for running for City Council? To encourage incorporating some of the newest digital technologies to help make governance here (and everywhere) as voluntary and fact-based as possible. We need more voluntary and intelligent governance to advance policies based on Science and “HumanE Rights.” Governments at all levels seem to be poorly anticipating the increasingly exponential acceleration of technology. My involvement with the United States Transhumanist Party as a Christian Transhumanist has given me great insights into this Challenge.
- 2) What is the biggest challenge facing the City of Thousand Oaks and what is your plan to address it? People Experiencing Housing Insecurity and multiple Public Safety concerns. Every block in Thousand Oaks (and beyond) can become a kind of virtual intentional community that enables Resilient Public Health, Safety and Quality of Life hyperglocal Infrastructure. Mesh communications for grid down situations, battery backup sharing for power outages. Local Permacultures to enhance Food Security. The City could also, for example, address extreme drought issues by actively helping residents convert to grey water irrigation systems and minimal water use composting and biogas generator toilets.
- 3) What do you love most about Thousand Oaks? With its highly accessible Open Space, trail and Greenway interconnections and tech-savvy citizens, T.O. can really be a kind of “Thousand Earths” Model City for better “HumanE Civilization” everywhere!
- 4) What’s the most important thing (1 thing only, please) voters should know about you? I’m a Design Science thinker in the vein of R. Buckminster Fuller (geodesic dome, etc. inventor) who believes every Human Being on “Spaceship Earth” can flourish with “Omni-Advantaging” as we steward this Sacred Creation and progress to becoming a space-faring “HumanE Civilization.”

- We’re always really careful with this when registering people to vote. “A 2016 Los Angeles Times investigation suggested that a significant number of voters registered with the AIP may have done so under the misconception that they were registering as independent, unaffiliated voters, which is officially designated as “no party preference” in California.”
- The American Independent Party (AIP) is actually the far-right political party “best known for its nomination of former Governor George Wallace of Alabama, who carried five states in the 1968 presidential election running on a segregationist platform against Richard M. Nixon and Hubert H. Humphrey.” “In his 1963 inaugural address, written by a known Ku Klux Klansman, Wallace promised to protect the state’s “Anglo-Saxon people” and ended with the line: “Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.”
- The AIP nominated Trump as their presidential candidate in 2016

This is an interesting one. His commitment to “stand up for “Conservative Christian principles” appears nowhere in his official campaign website, but he’s been signaling this stance in his instagram feed and in an article in the Conejo Guardian, which in itself is a signal. His website talks about a number of new employees and programs that he feels Thousand Oaks needs, while his Conejo Guardian article discusses his belief in “limited government.” It feels like Mr. Hagel is trying to run campaigns for two separate candidates.
This is the original version of his instagram feed, specifying “conservative Christian principles.”

In his response to a comment questioning how his stated Christian values would affect non-Christians, he replied that he would “treat residents with kindness and empathy,” and then changed his wording to “conservative God loving principles,” which is actually less clear. But we need way more than that.

We are now a country where an election could unleash the democracy-killing Christian nationalism of Project 2025, and where fellow citizens – LGBTQ communities, minority leaders, students, teachers and librarians – are already under attack by right-wing legislators and groups such as the MAGA political operation Moms for Liberty, who wield “family values” as a blunt object.
Anyone running for public office under the banner of “Christian conservatism” ON ANY PLATFORM, should acknowledge the trauma that their co-believers have caused, and clearly enunciate both their own boundaries on social issues such as minority, LGBTQ and reproductive rights, and whose “liberties” and “freedoms” will be prioritized when conflicts arise.
His website also says “Hagel’s candidacy has garnered significant endorsements from local leaders and organizations, highlighting his broad base of support.” However, other than that of an Adam Hagel, we cannot find any list of non-related endorsers, which is a deal-killer for us.
(Top Priorities) “The city of Thousand Oaks needs to remain economically strong. My top priority is driving sustainable economic growth that benefits our entire community. I plan to accomplish this by fostering a business-friendly environment that encourages local entrepreneurship and attracts new in-demand companies to our area.
I will work with the city manager’s office and fellow council members to market Thousand Oaks to commercial real estate brokers. Thousand Oaks is an ideal area for corporation office relocation or to open satellite corporate headquarters in. The goal is retrofitting existing empty commercial office building locations to bring hundreds of high-paying jobs to our community with minimal new builds.
By streamlining permitting processes, offering incentives for corporate businesses, and collaborating with local organizations, we can create a thriving economic landscape. With a balanced mix of all size of businesses, we can create a thriving self-sustaining economic ecosystem for our city. “

He’s much further right than you think.
Kevin McNamee is hanging with extremists, rounding out our local pod of far-right candidates, like Lori Mills, Halla Maher, Karen Meyers, and Tim McCarthy, advocates for public-school-ending vouchers, and historical takes, like believing that Irish people were shipped to America as slaves, that makes one wonder if he just wasted his time at UCLA.
He appears to have the same casual disregard for campaign finance law as our felonious ex-president.
Latest: FPPC concludes Kevin McNamee violated campaign finance law. “So, you may or may not recall, but back in 2020, there were a lot of concerns raised about Kevin McNamee’s questionable filing practices. Specifically, he hadn’t been accurately reporting contributions and expenditures, and he wasn’t filing required 24-hour reports. At that time, complaints were filed to the FPPC.“
They finally found that WAS really bad at it, and warned him that failure to comply with the Act in the future will result in monetary penalties upwards of $5,000 per violation.
Close observers of his filings anticipate some hefty fines are on the horizon for California’s coffers! Thanks, Kevin! Remind us again what qualities you do have that would qualify you for this job?
He’s working to destroy public schools the traditional GOP way – with vouchers!

Yes, he has a personal grifty reason for wanting to destroy our schools! Thanks for asking!

The “learning tutoring centers in new apartment complexes” are related to his own FOR-PROFIT operation – Magic of Phonics. “McNamee has a history of pushing for developers to include community rooms for tutoring services in order to get his vote of support for their development projects….Imagine using your elected position to put pressure on developers to include space in their development so you can expand your for-profit tutoring business.” This is what people often refer to as “CORRUPTION.”
But who pays for these tutoring services? Well, it would really help his bottom line if he could get his “Children’s Educational Opportunity (CEO) Act” initiative passed. This proposed legislation would create public-school-killing vouchers that families can use to pay for private schools, educational therapy services, parochial schools, …and…wait for it…tutoring and online courses! Yay, baby!
“The CEO Act is cause for concern especially now because of this new wave of so-called “parental rights” activism happening across California. The CEO Act is being promoted at far-right “parents’ rights” rallies and School Board meetings by extremist groups like LOKA (Leave Our Kids Alone) and the SPLC designated hate group the “Mom Army.”
Oh, here’s a letter to the editor about it.

But this batshittery isn’t new. (LA Times) “Back in 1996, Pete Wilson proposed a voucher system. “Who could complain about giving poor kids in bad schools a choice? Nothing could be worse than the substandard education they’re receiving, could it?
Speaking as a former teacher, something is worse. A voucher system is worse, in whatever guise and no matter how gussied up with cynically invoked, tear-jerking images of poor children. A voucher system remains a gross perversion of the concept of publicly financed education and the death knell of the last hope for an American populace bound by common knowledge and ideals.“
