CHECK IN – SAFETY VOLUNTEERS!: These volunteers manage crosswalks, sidewalks and do possible de-escalation. Come at 9:00 am for an orientation meeting and to attend a 9:15 Safety Training briefing and get your vest!

POSTCARDING!

There will be a “LAST DAY FOR PROP. 50” postcarding table! Fill out five (5) cards and get a cool pin!

PLEASE BRING STAMPS IF YOU CAN! Finished postcards need to be stamped at the event to be dropped off at the post office right after! (BTW – Volunteers filled out 1000 postcards at the CA Strong Hold the Line event!)

MUTUAL AID FOOD DRIVE FOR VENTURA COUNTY FIELDWORKERS!

ICE raids have hit families in our county’s smaller cities especially hard, and they are struggling for food and basic necessities. Food pantries need our help, as requests for assistance have tripled.

Donations brought to No Kings on Saturday will taken to Santa Paula’s Poder Popular, which works with Friends of Fieldworkers, and serves as an emergency pantry for them. It operates with volunteers from Hearts Without Borders/ LUCHA.

“Poder Popular typically serves fieldworkers coming from the Santa Clara River Valley, (small towns like Piru, Fillmore and Santa Paula) yet lately people have been coming from larger cities like Ventura and Oxnard to seek help. The needs are high and they are not going away anytime soon. Volunteers from Poder Popular shared that most recently they are running out of fresh produce, laundry and dish soap, hygiene items and cooking oil. Thank you to all who have donated and continue to donate.”

We know carrying groceries any distance can be hard. We will have a dropoff zone with volunteers to assist in the parking lot where most people park. There will be a second dropoff area at the event itself for those parking in other areas.

If you can continue to help support to Poder Popular after this event, they are open to accept donations Monday-Wednesday: 9-3pm and Friday 9-3pm. They are located at 113 N Mills St Santa Paula.

SPREADING THE WORD!

We know a lot of people can’t hear the speakers well. And for the folks on the other intersection corners, not at all. This is a common problem for all outdoor events. However, our compatriots in Los Angeles have field-tested a solution, which requires those old-fashioned, battery-operated FM radios and boomboxes. We’re been experimenting with this, and we’re getting better every time. NOTE: we will not be able to utilize phone apps and bluetooth speakers.

NO STANDING IN THE MEDIANS!

Yeah, it’s fun! But the police at our last NO KINGS demonstration notified us that there is actually a city code against standing in medians, and they will issue tickets in the future. (10.100.020 Prohibited solicitation at specified locations, Item H) Who knew, right? The police don’t want to harsh our day, so let’s remind those who look likely to plant themselves in the medians to move along to the other side of the street.

GET RALLY READY! HOLD ON TO YOUR STUFF!

There’s a lot of fun stuff happening at our rallies and it’s easy to put something down, “just for a minute!,” to clap or hold onto a sign. Make sure your most valuable items – wallets, car keys, etc – are somehow ATTACHED to your body at all times – bring a crossbody purse, belly bag, fanny pack, or a backpack if you can!

This is a big space to look for lost items. We will have a LOST AND FOUND area at the 50501 information table, so please report or turn in any found items there.

KEEPING COMFORTABLE

Yelling and dancing is thirsty work. We will have water stations, but if you’re able to carry a water bottle with you, please do. I
It’s going to be normal Ventura weather – 72°-ish. Bring a hat and wear sunscreen and layers!
You are welcome to bring a folding chair to be more comfortable for the 3 hours of this event.

It’s past time we remind this nation, and the world, of the true definition of America: A nation that accepts your tired, your poor, your huddled masses and ensures they have the right to every freedom guaranteed to the person standing next to them. Bring out your American flags, encourage your attendees to do the same, and let’s reclaim this symbol and remind the world that the freedom we stand for is freedom for all. (Note: There were always flags at the civil rights marches and rallies.)

WHAT IS “NO KINGS”?

First…we are not alone! At last count, there are almost ~~2500~~ 3000 events planned across the country, with over 300,000 RSVPs – making this the largest peaceful protest in modern times, and depending on how many people show up, the largest in history.

In June, we did what many claimed was impossible: peacefully mobilized millions of people to take to the streets and declare with one voice: America has no kings. And it mattered. The world saw the power of the people. President Trump’s birthday parade was drowned out by protests in every state and across the globe. His attempt to turn June 14 into a coronation failed, and the story became a rallying point for a movement rising against his authoritarian power grabs.

NO KINGS is a peaceful national day of action and mass mobilization in response to the increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption of the Trump administration, which they have doubled down on since June. They are targeting immigrant families, profiling, arresting and detaining people without warrants; threatening to overtake elections; gutting health care, environmental protections, and education when families need them most; rigging maps to silence voters; ignoring mass shootings at our schools and in our communities; and driving up the cost of living while handing out massive giveaways to billionaire allies, as families struggle.

At events, attendees will receive Know Your Rights cards to empower us to keep demanding that our rights are respected. We’ll also use it to start a conversation about how we’re going to fight back and care for each other with our communities.

President Trump is currently eroding checks and balances by exercising raw executive power in every way he can. We will not stand by as this happens.

Instead of allowing the president and his friends to believe that their attempts at silencing dissent and shows of force intimidate us, we will take to the streets and show them: Americans across the country will not cower in response to President Trump’s authoritarian takeover—we reject strongman politics and corruption and will fight until we get the representation we deserve.

Alongside local organizers, partners, and leaders from across the pro-democracy & pro-worker movement, we will demonstrate organized nonviolent people power that outpaces any authoritarian aspirations.

STATE OF PLAY: WHY WE’RE MOBILIZING ON OCTOBER 18

President Trump thinks his rule is absolute, but in America, we don’t do “kings.” Since the inauguration, the Trump administration and its enablers have operated as though they have a mandate—but they don’t, and never did. They are going to extremes to empower the Trump administration and enrich themselves, while cutting jobs and services for the rest of us.

💰 He’s using OUR tax dollars to pay for HIS power grabs: The president is pouring public money into his authoritarian takeovers of cities—deploying federal forces, seizing local police departments, and funding mass detention and deportation operations—while cutting services that working families rely on every single day.

👑 We are united against kings: President Trump has openly said he wants a third term and is already acting like a monarch—seizing control of D.C., threatening other cities, and using federal forces against his own people. But the American people don’t bow to kings. Together, we will peacefully mobilize, yet again, in huge numbers to reject this corruption and abuse of power—it’s in our DNA as a country.

✋ They’ve gone too far: This is bigger than political disagreement. This administration has defied our courts, deported American citizens, disappeared people off the streets, and slashed our services—all while orchestrating a massive giveaway to their billionaire allies. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. All events should be held in public spaces or on public property.
