January 10th: National Day of Action

May Day Strong and partners are calling for Saturday actions nationwide in response to the occupation of Venezuela and the murder by ICE agents in Minneapolis. We’re saying no to occupation here at home, and no to occupation abroad.

Our actions are focusing on Citgo & Chevron stations, companies set to benefit most by the occupation in Venezuela. We have a corporate Chevron Station near us, .

Why we are doing these actions:

  • Spotlight these companies and how they benefit
  • End the U.S. occupation in Venezuela
  • Get ICE out of our cities
  • Demand the federal government tackle the affordability crisis – not attack other countries and our cities
  • Engage in conversations with our neighbors and bring them into our movement

Why Citgo & Chevron

In November 2025, Billionaire Trump donor Paul Singer bought the previously Venezuelan owned company, Citgo, in a forced auction the country says is illegal. He will reap billions more in profit if we let this criminal occupation continue.

Meanwhile, Chevron is the only US oil company currently operating in Venezuela, also well positioned to expand their operations and squeeze more profit from the country with Rubio’s imperial oversight.

Chevron has a long history of harming people and the planet. Because of the company’s critical role in supporting Israel’s bombardment in Gaza and ongoing displacement of Palestinians, Chevron is already the target of a boycott campaign led by Palestinian rights organizations. Learn more here.

Key Talking Points

  • Trump has made it clear that they invaded and occupied Venezuela to take control of the country’s oil.
  • We know that this will be bad for the people of Venezuela and for our communities at home; wars for oil end up costing human lives and billions of dollars that only benefit corporations.
  • In this case, oil corporations like Chevron and Citgo will line their pockets while the rest of us struggle to pay for groceries, make rent, or get healthcare.
  • Meanwhile, Trump and his corporate buddies are violently targeting immigrant communities here in the US, attempting to get us to blame our neighbors and coworkers for our struggles instead of those at the top.
  • It can feel like a lot but there is something we can do about this – these corporations need to know that we will not let them profit from war or off of our backs.
  • Make sure to follow this link and send a letter to your elected representatives, share it with your neighbor and friends, and boycott these companies.

Conversation Do’s

  • Listen and ask questions. We want everyone we talk to to feel like they have a place in this fight, even if there are differences. Billionaires profit when we fight each other instead of building a movement to fight them.
  • Be honest about your perspective. You may have differences with the person you are talking to but you don’t need to pretend like you agree with them; more often than not people will appreciate the honesty.
  • Keep bringing it back to the impact on people. This kind of intervention has a real impact on real people. This war will make corporations rich and our communities will pay the price.
  • Move them into action / provide a next step. Make sure every conversation ends with the person knowing they can do something or at least learn more – give them the flyer with the QR code!

Conversation Don’ts

  • Don’t be condescending. It’s a conversation, not a lecture. People are less likely to engage with us if we are mean, berating, or make them feel less than – even if our points are really good!
  • Don’t challenge someone’s experience. Even if there are differences, it’s important that we don’t attack. We can disagree with someone’s perspective or idea but if someone is telling you that something is painful for them, respect that and find another way to move the conversation forward.
  • Don’t antagonize or taunt. If someone really isn’t interested in speaking with you or can’t move through the differences, say thank you, give them a flyer, and move on. You may have a better conversation with the next person.
  • Don’t villainize the gas station workers or owners. While we are trying to focus actions at gas stations that are corporate-owned, most gas stations in the US are actually owned by small business franchisees who are also at the mercy of the big oil companies. Differentiate between the people who work at or own the particular gas station where your action is from the big oil companies profiting from leading us to war.

From Jessica Craven’s post: Suggestions from a messaging leader (who wishes to remain anonymous) for talking about the murder of Renee Nicole Good. This is very helpful guidance for making signs or overpass banners.

  • Associate ICE with MURDER or EXECUTE but avoid KILL. (You can kill someone in self-defense. You can’t murder or execute someone in self-defense. Fascists want to paint this as response to a ‘likely assault.’ Let’s not leave any room in our messaging for that lie.)
  • Use RENEE NICOLE GOOD. Using her name speaks to her humanity. Each part of her name has personal associations for people.
  • Use DHS and /or ICE and associate with CRIMINAL and MASKED
  • Use JUSTICE. That’s what we want and ICE must be shown for the disgraceful travesty that they are.
  • Avoid using profanity. We want as many people to connect with the message as possible and that can push people away.
  • If appropriate, consider using the image of Renee taken with the ocean behind her that is available online. She needs to be remembered visually as well as with words.

Pick a sample intro (or write your own!)

  1. Trump has said it directly: they invaded Venezuela for oil. They sent our friends, neighbors, siblings, and children into harm’s way to benefit himself and his corporate allies. This is not about us and making our lives better: it is about billionaires making themselves richer no matter the human cost. Stand up & host an event this Saturday: https://bit.ly/NoKingsNoColonies
  2. We will not stand by while Trump occupies nations and wages wars on behalf of the billionaire class while at home we can’t even afford our groceries. We can get our basic needs met, but not while our government works for billionaires and not for us.  Stand up & host an event this Saturday: https://bit.ly/NoKingsNoColonies
  3. NO WAR WITH VENEZUELA! While Trump and his corporate friends violently target our immigrant neighbors at home, their war abroad will cost many lives. While regular people struggle to buy groceries, corporations will get richer while we pay the price. Stand up & host an event this Saturday: https://bit.ly/NoKingsNoColonies

And pair it with a sample call to action:

  1. This Saturday, we’re coming together to stand up to some of the corporations and billionaires who will make a fortune off of Trump’s war: Chevron and Citgo. #NoBloodforBillionaires #NoWarForOil #WorkersOverBillionaires #ICEout
  2. This Saturday, I’m joining hundreds of others across the country and hosting an action at my local [Citgo/Chevron] station to talk to our neighbors about why this war is bad for all of us. I’ll be at 1900 N Rose Avenue in Oxnard!. Can you join me?
  3. We are calling on every elected official in this country to condemn this unprecedented aggression and violation of our Constitution. Contact your representatives to demand that our government work for us, not greedy Big Oil billionaires. #NoBloodforBillionaires #NoWarForOil #WorkersOverBillionaires #ICEout

May Day Strong is a national gathering of organizations united in common purpose: building a multi-racial movement to get real wins for working people.

“We hosted more than one thousand actions May 1st, 2025 and Labor Day 2025 and are planning A Day Without Workers for May 1st, 2026. Economic non-cooperation and withholding our labor is how we will win.

Our Demands to Build the Society We Deserve:

  • Stop the billionaire takeover corrupting our government.
  • Protect and defend Medicaid, Social Security, and other programs for working people.
  • Fully funded schools, and healthcare and housing for all.
  • Stop the attacks on immigrants, Black, indigenous, trans people, and all our communities.
  • Invest in people not wars.”
